What do people think of the default option to show a popup messagebox when you receive a new personal message on the forum?
I'd like to turn it off, but it didn't happen often enough yet to dive into my profile setting to find that setting :-[

There is a setting for it somewhere -- i'm just thinking i should probably disable it by default.

Yes i've enabled it by default.  Question is whether i should disable by default.

I thought about it some more and maybe its best to enable by default.  People who rarely get messages will not miss the rare message, and people who frequently get messages will be advanced enough to change the option.

Forum loads quickly for me. And except the white theme, I think I like the new change. Not sure about the quirks for now.

Good to see things changing here.

the list of active users, including buddies (not yet (3) highlighted like old DC had, hope that's returning too,
This is probably another css setting to tweak? Buddies aren't recognizable from the logged-in users-list at the bottom of the forum front-page

like (4) buddy management in the profile that I couldn't find yet)
Found it 8), it's pretty hard to find using a tablet (no mouse-hover fly-out menu's)

Perhaps a little icon overlay on the thread icon on the left, like a little "reply arrow"
ok let me look into it.

I was thinking about something like xx.gif vs xx_r.gif.

yep that looks nice, i could go back to the single-icon view and use those when user has posted in a topic -- that would be cleaner and more minimal than having 2 columns of icons. anyone else prefer i keep the 2 icon column that indicates popularity, polls, etc.?
The page in question is here: https://www.donation...hp?action=unread;all

I've tweaked the search function a little bit -- I think i fixed a bug where it was returning less results than it should.  And I also added an option to bypass the search index on the advanced search form -- this will result in a slower and more thorough search for partial word matches, and is able to search for words less than 4 characters.  Normal indexed searching is appropriate for most searches, but you now have an option if you can't find something with a default search.

Prefer not, but as long as it can be turned off, doesn't bother :)

well one way it could be done very easily and safely is this:
i could add a profile field to each users profile, where they could write custom BBC code (which would include the ability to use url links),
and then the forum would display that text at the top (bottom) of the forum pages FOR THAT USER ONLY.

so basically a way of letting users add their own custom links/text. near the built-in forum menu -- that would affect them only.

Yes, this is the sort of thing I had in mind -- but may be it's premature.  Was curious about the difficulty of implementing such a thing and what the computational costs might end up being.  Of course, this is all very vague :)

of course this is really not any different than users using their own greasemonkey scripts, just a bit easier -- but much less flexible.

It seems possible that for the share buttons (some are iframes?) by the time Greasemonkey gets to remove the related nodes, it may be "too late" in the sense that one's info might have leaked to certain sites.  Not certain -- may be someone else knows better?

well that could certainly be true for the social media buttons and google analytics code -- that's why i added an option for that.

BTW, noticed in the console of a browser the following when viewing DC Forums:

This site makes use of a SHA-1 Certificate; it's recommended you use certificates with signature algorithms that use hash functions stronger than SHA-1.

Any opinions on this?  Looking at DC's certificate, I think I also see SHA-256 so may be it's not a problem.

what do you mean by 'info board'? --
I presume it's not what mouser calls the 'info-center' -- the active threads etc, but cant figure out what it might be...

EDIT// I presume you mean the boards - were they much further down in the past?

Maybe he meant the "Info Center":

DonationCoder.com Forum - Index - Mozilla Firefox 15-09-03 001.pngForum Upgraded August 30, 2015 - Report issues here

This is a great feature, maybe it should be explained someplace prominent, so less frequent or new members also realise that it is possible to move the Info Center to the top by going to: Profile > Forum Profile > and adding "-topinfocenter" in the Custom options box:

Yes, you nailed it Dr Andus, that's exactly what I meant - I missed the right word for it. (But I really thought it had a different name in the old version!)

And yes, it's not at all obvious to newcomers that a custom line in their profile can move it!

^ Ah okay - you had moved the info-center - I thought you were talking about the default setting.

I still wonder if the info-center / active-thread should be on top in the default setting (I guess it would have to be separated from the other info, but dont know really - must try it at the top myself, see how I like it).

please delete - I keep clicking 'quote' instead of 'modify' :-[
(were they in opposite location in the old forum?)

Not sure, but I've had a similar problem.  I've just been fortunate to catch mine before posting.

Personally, I think the Custom Options section should be moved under Look and Layout since that's what those options are affecting.

It was the first place I looked for them instead of reading where they could actually be found ... yeah, I know, I was being too logical :-[

Any opinions on this?  Looking at DC's certificate, I think I also see SHA-256 so may be it's not a problem.

We are currently working to convert all of the website pages to a cms system, and then the plan is to move to a new server -- where we will make sure to upgrade the ssl certificates, etc.
Since that will all hopefully happen in the next couple of months, I think we are ok with what we have until then.

Nope: (not SHA-256) so, Yes, it's a minor problem for Chrome and Firefox(based) browsers.

You may be looking at an Avast (or other antivirus product) inserted certificate :o
