Favourite youtube channels
« on: December 04, 2019, 12:54 AM »
I stumbled upon this guy's channel today and have been addicted to it:
https://www.youtube....Zs_ltFFvn0FDHT6kmoXA

A couple of random videos:

He's a british tourist who knows russian very well and some other languages, and just heads off into the remotest villages in the soviet union, india, bolivia, etc.  And just makes friends.  He's fearless and just goes with the flow wherever he is..

I've been watching this series of AI-related podcast interviews by Lex Fridman, from MIT.. Some of them are incomprehensible cutting-edge physics discussions, but are still interesting.
Many of these interviews are with people who have been very influential in the kind of AI research that I was involved with -- people trying to understand big picture issues of how to build machine learning that works in ways similar to the way the brain.

This channel is very charming.. Tribal people tasting and reviewing foods from other countries:

The oldest guy is funny -- he is always a bit grumpy and compares the foods negatively to some mythical food from his country, or complains that the foods are ok but are mixed or prepared wrong :)

We need more posts in this thread!

I really like this guy's videos on how technology works -- he does a good job of explaining interesting issues:

[Technology Connections]

I've been watching quite a few of those videos as well. Interesting stuff.

Kind of similar, I also find the information from the Practical Engineering channel to be very interesting. Here's a sample video of Mechanically Stabilized Earth:

Here's the channel link: https://www.youtube..../user/gradyhillhouse

I spend more time in YouTube Premium than all the other streaming services combined. Interesting people making consistently interesting content is uncut brain candy for me:

Leah Shutkever -- this woman will eat anything; not a pretender like so many.

Shutup & Play Guitar Tutorials (relaxing to watching it played perfectly)

Hinkoki Cat -- Japanese family transformed their flat around the cats

Rick Beato on Rock Music, those who made it great, and why corporations killed it

WORTH A LOOK:

Wolf Conservation Center (funny)

Atomic Tests Channel (Hmmm...)

Chris Stuckman Movie Reviews (If it doesn't have a story, it's probably going to suck)

Lock Picking Lawyer (like passwords, nothing is really secure)

74 Airline Pilot Explains/Debunks (trying to cure rampant idiocracy with regard to aviation)

Hi Zaine!

Thanks for resurrecting this thread, I was just thinking to add a few more channels to it.

Technology Connections discusses some of the cool details of common inventions, very watchable:

Techmoan, another highly watchable well produced channel where a guy reviews usually very old retro media (walkmen, videodiscs, etc.) technology and does serious discussion of its history:

On Cinema at the Cinema.  I think Tim Heidecker is one of the most brilliant comedians ever.  It's very dry long form humour -- most people won't like it.  But for me, it's some of the best that ever was.

[ that's just a short compilation it doesn't give you the real flavor of it.  Long playlist here: https://www.youtube....oDTYwY7v_V12KJfQueXZ ]

How about asking about a channel?

I enjoyed the following about ice recently:

https://www.youtube..../watch?v=b9a36vsQh80

A bit weak toward the end -- lacking footage / images, but still fun.

Can't honestly say that the channel is a favorite as I've only seen one thing from it.

Does anyone watch this channel?
