Hi Vixay, it's great to hear from you again!
It's so strange with my bad memory sometimes I have a hard time in real life or virtual matching names to faces to memories, but my heart gets a bit happier automatically when it sees a familiar forum name :)

tinjaw and Tekzel -- wow life has taken you guys on some rides!  I cannot tell you how nice it is to see your names and avatars again.  Sometimes i think it is a miracle and an accomplishment for many of us to just survive day by day.  And it should be said that there is no shame at all from stepping away from an online life when such a thing is distracting you from real life.  Real life takes precedence. Sharing some of your real life with me and us is very appreciated -- we are all human and struggle.  And for some of us (me included) sometimes we can feel a close bond to someone even if it's just from shared discussions of mundane issues on a forum.  Sometimes time has a way of doing that.  It was great to hear from you guys.  :-*

Hi there! Yes it sure has been a long time. In my case it was simply real life taking over everything a bit too much, and by some point I was so far out of the habit of posting that it never really occurred to me any more.

I would like to echo what seems to be a unanimous sentiment, that DC is a THE place to find great people, great utilities and a very supportive and helpful community.

Congratulations on the 10 year anniversary. The old place looks in good shape! I'll have to do some catching up.

ps.
Can we put a halt to all these comments about DC being some paradise on earth ;D
Surely it's enough to say we wandered through a mislabeled door into a room and got stuck with each other for better or worse.  :)

Hi all. Clif here from the long defunct Clif Notes Freeware newsletter. Doing almost nothing online these days. Using mostly Linux and Android at home. I care little for my old love of Windows freeware any longer. Nearing retirement but raising one of my grandsons now. Nice to here from you Mouser. Fond memories of this forum.

I'm beginning to view you guys as those who have escaped from an online internet addiction, while the rest of us are stuck in it!

I look at every news letter and log in now and again. I still have some DonationCoder credits, and probably when I'm forced to upgrade to Windows 10, I'll shower them on folks who help me the highly specific nonsense I'll be irritated with once I get there.

I still have my New Year New App contest mug! It has a chip in it right where I'd put my sipper, so it holds a bunch of chopsticks now, but I still have it! And I also still use the application that I begged Skwire to code for me as well, a good five years or so logged on Anuran (http://skwire.dcmemb....com/fp/?page=anuran).

I think what happened is that software went online. Desktop apps are really going the way of the dodo. DC is mostly about those, so it's understandable that fewer people are interested in this type of content.

Hi urlwolf!  :)

I think what happened is that software went online. Desktop apps are really going the way of the dodo.

It's certainly the trend -- towards online and mobile software.. Definitely true that donationcoder has long focused on desktop apps -- and primarily for ms windows.  But I tend to think of the site as changing to reflect the interests of members -- certainly our discussions are often about online tools these days.  But let's keep this thread positive -- no need for anyone to "justify" having moved on from DC, this is just a thread about reuniting briefly with old friends :)

Another lost sheep reporting in.

My work and family don't leave me a lot of time to spend on this site, but it's unique concept and community will always be one of my favourites!

It's good to see the old names again.   8)

I was full-time carer for my mother from 2007 until she died in July 2013 at the age of 98.  She developed dementia, so I didn't get much sleep in the last year or so. Now I'm stuck with a house far too big for one, and not much chance of selling.

I got my head back together mostly by reviving an interest in long-distance cycling. I worked up to doing a couple of 200+ mile rides last year, and have hosted a few passing international tourists.   I'm still looking for enough employment to stop the savings eroding.  :(

Whew... managed to make the minimum necessary contribution to stay off the Lost list. ;)

Best wishes for that- it can be a hard thing to recover from.  My sincere condolences.  But the cycling is impressive!

Hi all,

I haven't been around here in ages. Not too much has changed with me, I've finished my education, looking for a job. Otherwise am still just coding away on little projects like I've always done. In general I don't tend to interact on-line as much (or at all) as I used too, though I still read a load :)

I must say it's great to see this place is as friendly as ever!

Hi Mouser,

Thanks for reaching out. I had a lot of fun on DonationCoder, and learned a lot. For a while I ran a computer coaching/support service, very much supported by the wisdom of the forums - when I got stuck, I reached out to everyone here, and received a lot of support and good advice. Thanks for that.

Back in 2006 I bought my first Mac, and so I stopped dropping by so much.

I still love the idea of the community, and appreciate all the work you've done in building it! I hope it lives long and prospers.

Well I haven't completely written off the idea of the little buggers making a comeback, if my workload were ever to ease up. The main thing that changed for me was a bit of a jump in how busy my company became: it's very hard to turn down good work, and by the end of a long day I'm not feeling very humorous - if I wrote the strip after some days I've had recently it would be a bit too pithy I think ;)

I'm still doing a lot of coding, mainly Java, C# and Delphi although I had to dust of my assembly skills recently to update some very old graphics stuff I wrote back when performance had to be found by design rather than by plugging in a new GeForce Titan
