Hi all. Clif here from the long defunct Clif Notes Freeware newsletter. Doing almost nothing online these days. Using mostly Linux and Android at home. I care little for my old love of Windows freeware any longer. Nearing retirement but raising one of my grandsons now. Nice to here from you Mouser. Fond memories of this forum.

I don't use Google as my default web search anymore. I got tired of a couple things:

1. Ads ads and more ads
2. Sponsored results
3. Tracking of your queries
4. Ability of others to see your queries on non-private netorks

I use Scroogle SSL now as the default. It's easy to change your default in the Chrome or Opera browser, not as easy in Firefox but there is an addon.

For those with a wireless keyboard and mouse, I can definitely recommend a different web browser for use at more than 10ft away from the TV.

Hi Everyone,

To those who don't know me, I'm Clif Sipe aka Clif Notes, owner/author of Freewarewiki.com and currently one of the Sr. Editors at Techie-Buzz.com. Hopefully some of you old-timers here still remember me though.

My task this week, (yes, I have a boss even online) is to write up a review of DonationCoder. Do you realize what a daunting task that is? Maybe you can help me out ... (please?)

I'd like you to reply back with your ideas on DC's purpose and it's features, as you see it, and maybe some details on why you keep coming back for more. Just keep in mind that I might quote some of what you say. I'll be sure to give credits to all sources.

I finally have Win7 installed. So far, I'm not having any trouble adjusting to it. It's running quite well on my 5 year old laptop, which is not high-powered by any stretch of the imagination.

I look forward to hearing any updates you have on this coding snack. I will finally be able to test it.

Using a Nullsoft installer for this was a perfectly great idea. Perhaps it just needs to have the proper access.

This plug-in attempts to work around UAC installation problems on Vista. This plug-in allows your installer to operate with a user level process and an admin level process. This allows you to accomplish things that would otherwise be very difficult. For example, you can have an admin level installer launch another process at a user level. Or you can have an admin level installer create shortcuts at a user level.

That's what I was looking for. I see that it works nicely in XP. I am unable to test it in Vista or Win7 yet. I'm working on that and hope to have Win7 running soon.

Can we get someone to try it in Vista or Win7 for us and post the results here?

An ad-block for Chrome would be nice. If you're serious and you use multiple browsers, using Privoxy may be a better choice.

Actually, a nice solution is to put a shortcut to fileNanny.exe in the sendTo folder. It works with multiple files.

I quickly created an icon because i don't like software (even crappy little stuff like that) without icon, but i'm not sure the picture is very obvious (i hate using the mouse).

Wow AK. That's the program she wanted. Once the SendTo entry is created, it fits all the requirements that Marlene set forth.

Should I wait to see if Andy's context info can be implemented into FileNanny?

BTW - great name and good icon. I would never have imagined it - a pacifier as the icon. LOL

I did look into this briefly. There are many context menu extension tools. Many will allow you to add new folders from the right click menu in Explorer. I couldn't find any that worked like Marlene wanted it to.

In my newsletter, I have a section called "What do you want?". Often I can find an existing program that fits the need, and more often others chime in with plenty of ideas.

Here is a request that I figured would be perfect as a coding snack and additionally would make my readers familiar with your services in this forum.

For instance if I have a zip file called reader.zip, if I could right click it and have the option to make a folder called reader that I could put it in. In this case, I don't believe she is asking to have the program unzip the file into a folder. That is already available to most folks.

I believe she merely wants a folder to store it in. Perhaps the program could also move the file into the containing folder. Another idea might allow selecting more than one file and using those names to create an equal number of folders to contain the files.

I've been using ZuluPad since it first came out (or close to it). I use the free version for an online job I do. I keep all kinds of work related info in it. It's fast and easy for me to use. I haven't hit the magic "slow typing" point yet I guess.

Tom Gersic is a nice guy and willing to listen to feedback. I've enjoyed using ZuluPad.
