Firefox Extension Backup Extension (FEBE) 2.0 might be what you're looking for.

FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your extensions individually into installable .xpi files. Now you can easily synchronize your office and home browsers.

FEBE backs up your extensions, themes, and (optionally) your bookmarks, preferences and cookies.

By the way, if you are using Firefox Extension Backup Extension (FEBE) 2.0, you might want to check to see that it is in fact backing up the data.  As far as I can tell there is no automatic backup setting.  You need to go to Tools/FEBE/Perform backup to manually inovoke a proper backup.

Great discussion question! I use:

Web Search Pro - incredibly powerful, simple to use search tool
CookieSafe - much easier to manage cookies
Download Manaer Tweak - I think it's an improvement, but i can't find any to make it download like Opera, which is what I'd like
AI Roboform Toolbar (to make RoboForm with with Firefox)
InfoEnter - enters text into fields
Tab Mix Pro - improves tabbed browsing

For sure it's two kinds of firefox users...

1. Extmaniacs also use to be a great Themeaniacs to :Thmbsup:

2. Securityiacs also use to be Paranoidiacs  :Thmbsup:

The demands and problems for those types use to be completley diffrent, the Extmaniac/Themeaniac just need to.... must try all extensions and themes out, which is great as a matter of fact, without them No.2 wouldn´t have all of the great extensions. It's not unusual that this guys experience a hole lot a problems, with major "dives" of Firefox and a huge amount of mem consumtion generated by all extensions and themes who is in the beta stage.

Now.... most of us have been there, therefore we know  :D Securityiac/Paranoidiac go green of all bugs and "dives" here we talkin as few extensions and themes as possible, what you use, you need.

My contribution to this most intresting thread is:

AdBlock Plus
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1865

NoScript
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/722/

Remove It Permanently (RIP)
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/521/

IE Tab
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1419/

ShowIP
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/590/

Fasterfox
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1269/

DownThemAll!
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/201/

NewsFox
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/629/

MM3-ProxySwitch
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2648/

AdBlock Plus, NoScript and Remove It Permanently (RIP) together wipe all ads flashes scripts away when you poke around www, and even the most "dirty" site go clean with this three. If you have a slow connection, you will enjoy this for sure, websites nowdays contain way to much interactive stuff for slowspeeders ;)

IE Tab to go IE ofcourse, so you can surf sites like Microsoft Update with Firefox.

ShowIP, this neat little thing let you se the the ip address of the sites you surf down in the status bar, even better, you can also trace the route of the sites with this tool.

Fasterfox, for the lazy bum, who don't do it the "about" way, this one is for squeezin a little bit more out of your Firefox.

DownThemAll! let you download multiple files, with whatever extension you can come up with, it work like all the free-standing apps made for this matter, with multiple threads and evrything, the guys who made this one, work hard with it, updates all the time, so be sure to use the update option.

NewsFox a simple but powerful rss/atom reader with just the stuff you need to read your feeds.

MM3-ProxySwitch, get anonymous with this one, simple and easy to use with a clean interface.

And my contribution to the theme department is:

Breeze
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1335/

A minimalistic theme so sweet for your eyes.

Thats all....  ;)

Best Regards

So here is my updated list of extensions and themes for firefox. I have not symlinked any of these items, you can get them all from https://addons.mozilla.org/

Extensions

  • Plain Text to Link (PTTL) for opening non-hyperlinked URLs
  • Forecastfox Enhanced shows me the weather, works world-wide!
  • Customize Google lets me adjust appearance of the various google sites
  • Feedbag to add RSS-feeds to Liferea
  • Adblock Plus and Adblock Filterset.G Updater less ads, more fun. I can't use the internet without this!
  • Google Browser Sync this one is new. it gives me very thourough synchronizations between browsers; I use it as means to back up my bookmarks.html

Themes

There is only one theme: miniFoxFlat! Gives you back your real estate without ruining anything. Small, compact, highly usable.
I love it!  :-*

And here I wonder why my firefox uses so much virtual memory ;-)

Instead of creating a new thread, I thought it's appropriate I post here.

If you are a power surfer jumping from one site to another several times in a day, you need better ways of doing the following:

1. Opening a new tab
2. Closing a tab
3. 'Undo'ing a closed tab
4. Going back and forward
5. Jumping to next and previous tabs
6. Opening extensions window.

You can increase your surfing productivity by using Keyconfig, a Firefox extension inspired by Opera. If you want to be able to do the following, read on.

T (key on your keyboard)  to open a new tab

C to close the current tab

ctrl + Z to undo and thus restore the last closed tab (for that oops moment ;)

Z to go back, X to go forward

A to go to previous tab, S to go to next tab

E to open the extensions window

The steps below will enable you to set E key to open the extensions window.

1. Download and install keyconfig enhanced from here. It's at the bottom of that page.
2. Tools -> Keyconfig.
3. Click Show Edit Mode. Click New.
4. Enter Extensions as the Name.
5. Leave Menu/Extension blank.
6. In Shortcut field, type the letter e
7. In Command box, paste BrowserOpenExtensions('extensions');
8. Click Apply and OK.
9. Restart Firefox.

Similarly you can set the other shortcuts. Below are the commands you would need (the underlined text could be entered as Name). Note that you can set any of these at once and press OK to dismiss the window once done:

Next Tab
gBrowser.mTabContainer.advanceSelectedTab(1);

Previous Tab
gBrowser.mTabContainer.advanceSelectedTab(-1);

Close current Tab
var tab = gBrowser.mCurrentTab; gBrowser.removeTab(tab);
This may require Tab Mix Plus installed. I am not sure.

Back
Type back in the Filter box, click the entry where the shortcut is alt+left arrow, set the shortcut to Z, Apply.

Forward
Type forward in the Filter box, click the entry where the shortcut is shift+backspace, set the shortcut to X, Apply.

New tab
Type new tab in the Filter box, click the entry where the shortcut is ctrl+T, set the shortcut to T, Apply.

Note that most of these shortcuts won't work in the tab that has Gmail open. You might take some time to get used to, but start using these shortcuts. You will definitely enjoy.

Just installed that - nice - very small. Not very aesthetic, but extremely functional.

It basically removes about 2 pixels of height and width from every element, making it extremely compact.

...and speaking of small & compact, I also rearranged my tool- and menubars.

The top looks like this now:

FF-top.pngFirefox Extensions: Your favorite or most useful

As you can see, the navigation bar and menu bar share room now; I don't have the toolbar from diigo or stumbleupon displayed, but I use both via shortcuts.

Now to the bottom! I didn't save as much space there though:

FF-bottom.pngFirefox Extensions: Your favorite or most useful

So my list of extensions now is as follows:

    [0]
PTTL
Not as many extensions as others might have. But these are the ones I regularly use.

Extension does more but actually all you need is a few lines in userchrome.css to combine stop/reload:

/* combine STOP and RELOAD buttons ------ */
#stop-button[disabled="true"] { display:none; }
#stop-button:not([disabled]) + #reload-button { display:none; }

Be sure stop button is to the left of reload before you apply or it wont work. Possibly the other way round  8)

There are also tricks/extensions for hiding tab-bar/toolbars, like bookmark bar only show when you hover mouse at menu bar for example. Annoying but some like it.

Miniflat is plain ugly  8) Matter of taste but Littlefox is more designed for maximum pixels https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/307/

Autohidestatusbar gives you more pixels, works very well http://caspar.regis.free.fr/ahs/

TinyMenu http://www.arantius....om/article/tiny-menu helps too.

Think I have 40 or 45 extensions. A few have not been mentioned or they will be again...

No time or effort. I forgot Infolister http://mozilla.doslash.org/infolister/ which was mentioned earlier  :) You can modify output so I put description variable in bbcode template. With some tweaking fancy pages can be made in html http://mozilla.dosla...nfolister/templates/

Have just tried Save As Image https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3358/ in case Screenshot Capture dont work this should do.

oh wow your whole collection is rather impressive. I just started to bundle my tags as well which helps a lot.

How do you keep them organized? Sometimes I spend hours to re-tag my bookmarks, or to merge tags. But still I always feel overwhelmed by the sheer extension of my tag cloud.

sri, do you know of a tutorial or a howto explaining "how to proper tag your bookmarks" or something in that direction?

What's your del.icio.us username?

I hardly organize my del. bookmarks and it's high time I do it. I've created few more tag bundles but it gets really tedious after a while.

No, I don't have any such tutorial handy. But recently I've been giving some thought about the tags I enter while adding a bookmark to my del. I just close my eyes and try to think "If I want to get to this again after say 2 months, what tag would I first use to search?". This method has been working pretty good for me in that, anytime someone asks for that website or software I go to that tag in my del. and find it.

I'm really starting to get into FireFox.

Here's my current list, exported for bbcode (the formatting used on this forum), by the excellent, and previously mentioned extension InfoLister (see below).  Anyone wanting to share their favorite extension list should Install InfoLister:

Extensions (enabled: 37, disabled: 4; total: 41)

I do not have many shared bookmarks...

I do now though. I am virtually sharing all my del.icio.us bookmarks. It has completely replaced the bookmark thing of Firefox. I am now looking for a way to post to del.icio.us AND ma.gnolia.com at the same time. There is diigo, but somehow it doesn't post to magnolia; there are bookmarklets, but either they are only for one such service or I they "just" make posting a little easier (I still have to manually post to selected services); there is a userscript that lets me add my delicious bookmarks to magolia, but there is no indication if a bookmark has already been added. In short: I want something like diigo, but functional for delicious and magnolia.

On another note: I shall go an try a few of mouser's many extensions now :)
