I think I got the FARR part configured ok, but have a suspicion that Velocity is not taking in what is sent to it from FARR because when I run the alias with some text selected and then select the 3rd option in the results list, nothing happens. Velocity does not open or get switched to.

In Mac I am addicted to LaunchBar's Instant Send feature.

I wrote about it in my Facebook group which am quoting below:

LB's IS is like the 1-way API that connects any program on the computer to another or user-defined webservice by relaying data (text or file(s) or folder(s)).

Example 1:

Let's say I see the text "vertical carousel" on a webpage and I want to look it up in the WordPress plugin repo, the normal way is to copy the string, open up the WP plugin repo site, paste and search for it. With IS, this is the workflow:

1. Highlight the string you want to act on
2. Press Alt (a user-defined modifier key) to bring up LB (a floating palette with a search box) with the string populated
3. Type or just begin to type "wps" and hit return
4. The webpage opens in the default browser

where I've already set up a custom web search called "WordPress Plugins Search" with something like this as the URL: https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/*/ (* will be replaced with the search term).

LB is smart enough to fuzzy match "wps" with the name of my custom search, "WordPress Plugins Search" and pass the string onto the designated search URL.

Example 2:

I see a file in Finder or Path Explorer and I want to upload it to Droplr. Yes, it is possible to drag and drop it into the Droplor icon. But it is quicker and easier to press Alt, begin typing "drop..", see Droplor appear in the suggestions list because it is already installed in the computer, hit return and the file gets uploaded with the URL ready to be pasted.

Example 3:

I am writing some code in the code editor and find a function that I'd like to more about. Select the string, press Alt, begin typing 'dash' and hit return when Dash is shortlisted and I instantly see the results in Dash (a programming languages lookup tool).

So basically everything and anything you do online and on the computer can be done with 2 or 3 steps w/o manually setting up custom rules or macros to do.

Example 4:

To save some text to a note-taking app called Bear, I send it to LB by pressing Alt, type "b" and since Bear is the entry most frequently used it appears at the top of the list and hit return to send it to Bear which creates a note in the background w/o me even opening it with the selected text. When I want to look it up, I type "bs" (for Bear Search, a custom search rule), hit return, then type what am looking for and hit return. Most apps for Mac have identifiers allowing for entries inside to be searchable from other apps just like how we can search websites.

I have https://velocity.silverlakesoftware.com/ (documentation for programming languages) installed and am wondering if it is possible to select some text, press a key, send it to FARR and then click a mini toolbar icon or type "v e l o.." to have this string be passed onto Velocity and show the results.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Installable vs Portable?
« on: March 07, 2020, 04:22 PM »
Thanks for the reply.

I have uninstalled FARR and reinstalled it but the skin, font size etc. settings remain.

Is there a way to do a complete reset and start over from scratch when installing using the exe?

I understand the obvious benefits of portable software like FARR.

But is there any benefit of using it via the installed program option?

Thanks.

Much better with these settings: https://i.imgur.com/xC4wIYS.png

Thanks to https://www.donation....msg377183#msg377183, I figured out how to set the otherwise useless Insert key as a trigger to copy and send the selected text to FARR.

Issue #2 still remains.

Hello,

I am trying to use Windows after many years of using Mac and just installed FARR.

Have a couple of questions..

1) I would like to send the selected text to FARR by highlighting it. The built-in way to do this is by hitting Ctrl + Pause/Break.

The keyboard I am using (Logitech MX Keys) does not have the Pause/Break key.

Can anyone advise as to what my alternatives are?

2) In the results list of FARR window, some text seems to be cut off near the bottom.

Is there a fix?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Great reply Shades.

I've already ordered "Thermaltake MASSIVE TM Aluminum Panel Dual 120mm Fans Adjustable Temperature Sensor Laptop Notebook Cooling Pad".

https://www.amazon.c...00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I connect my laptop to an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

I think the summary is that as long as the laptop is not performing CPU intensive tasks that might make it hot, it's ok to leave it always plugged.

I am trying to move back to Windows from Mac.

One of the software I use on Mac is http://fruitjuiceapp.com/ which shows notifications on when it's good to unplug and plug back in depending on calibrations it does to the battery based on its cycles run etc.

Am I right in understanding that it's not recommended to always have a (Windows 10) laptop connected?

Is there a similar program for Windows? I did a google search and found http://batterycare.net/en/index.html.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

... Onedrive?  Really Microsoft?  You tout that as one of the possibilities for adding storage... and then your own program, which you also tout as having things always available, can't use it?

I think I've found a way around it using symlinks, but it shouldn't be necessary.

Apparently Apple had a collective brain freeze w/ the new MBP.

I've ordered a high-end Windows laptop.

I am back here. You've been warned!  :D

Same as edbro. Moved on to Mac.

Mac apps are no where near as deep and feature-rich as their PC counterparts though.

Ex.: Directory Opus kicks Path Finder's ass, FlashFXP eats Transmit for lunch, ClipX is better than ClipMenu etc.

What do I do currently? I build WordPress websites using Genesis framework for clients and recently turned my 500+ tutorials on how to customize Genesis into a membership site: https://sridharkatakam.com/. There are a lot of Mac specific apps like Gradient, CodeKit and Sketch that I use regularly which have no (good, that I know of) equivalents in PCs which is one of the reasons I moved away from Windows.

On a personal front, we migrated from India to Australia as wife got a job here in Melbourne.

Btw @mouser, have you looked at Slack? It's an awesome hosted chat platform that's much slicker than IRC. And for non-profits, they will offer full free offering.

I switched to a Mac. Not using the PC any more.

Sublime Text 2 can be purchased for a discounted price here: http://www.rewardli....text-editor-discount

I am not sure how it is now. Some 7 or 8 years ago when I tried Linux (don't remember which distro) desktop OS, I had to copy and paste 3 or 4 lines of code to eject the CD tray. I stopped using it from that day onwards.

Learn WordPress, master a theme framework like StudioPress's or iThemes Builder, make money.

I did not read the page linked to in the original post.

After using iPhone 4 for almost a year, I have recently bought Samsung Galaxy S2.

It is pretty easy to use. Features wise it rocks, but UI wise of course nothing can beat iOS.

22
There are many other add-ons to do full page capture. I use FireShot.

23
I am currently using http://users.forthne...ograms/deskpins.html

If you come across a app that shows pushpin icon on all windows title bars (off by default of course) so that we can easily just pin a window with 1 click, let me know.

Firefox is just awesome!

Can't imagine browsing w/o useful add-ons like Keyconfig, Firebug, QuickDrag, Tab Mix Plus and Text Link.

I have 31 extensions which are active.
