maybe i did not understand exactly how FARR works about this, but the idea is to remove sub-folders from being "shown" in result list for a particular folder

thanks mouser !

i still would like the idea of the following feature request :
maybe a "folder" extension could be specify to improve restrictions in search folders restrictions edit box

Find And Run Robot / question about search folders options
« on: March 16, 2009, 03:10 AM »
hi

is there a way to remove folders from results ? (globally)

[feature request]
maybe we could specify it in the search folders options

in the file restriction inputbox :
-folder

i find it a bit annoying to have all the folders of the start menu when searching for programs, i think this would improve usability to be able to remove some of this clutter

Find And Run Robot / Re: [bug report] strange results ...
« on: March 16, 2009, 03:04 AM »
technically speaking, the "stop on exact" options just stop farr from searching for FILES if there is an exact alias match.
ok

but what about the delicious plugin still appearing even after changing the alias ???

Find And Run Robot / [bug report] strange results ...
« on: March 15, 2009, 04:43 PM »
Hi,

i think i found a(several) bug(s) :

i've always set the exact match of an alias to stop search...
farr3.png

for some reason this does not work
farr2.png
i have the alias "c" so the search should stop but no...

to remove the delicious alias "dlc" from the result i'v changed the alias of the delicious plugin
farr1.png
but this still does not work

i still have dlc appearing in the result list ??????
farr2.png

any idea?

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FARR plugin: Akete
« on: March 14, 2009, 03:47 AM »
one would handle files based on its path
the other one based on its extension

as i said previously, Akete  would not exist, you could very well have created Akete.Folder

and THAT plugin would suit me (personnaly as of today, i would only use Akete.Folder so there would not be any precedence issue...)

however i perfectly understand that having two plugins that could lead to unexpected behavior is not confortable for you

you are right maybe mouser could clarify...

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FARR plugin: Akete
« on: March 13, 2009, 07:22 PM »
i completely agree that the existing User Variables mechanism is the way to go...

as i said i would be very happy with a plugin that does not try to handle precedence
because basically, i think a Akete.Folder plugin (as a standalone one or as an extension of the current one) would help people to simplify aliases.
i see immediate applications...

i don't see immediate applications for a more complex version where you could specify different applications to run depending on extension or/and path

with much more complex criterias (attributes, modified date, size, ...), i can see applications, that would even be fun to play with ;) BUT that would be a LOT of work
and as you said, FARR does not provide the configuration power to do it...

I'm sure that it wouldn't take too long to do a simple version as opposed to one that would try to achieve perfection ;)
and maybe this simple version would cover 80% of our need

in anycase, keep up the good work ewemoa !
and thanks again for the Akete plugin  :Thmbsup:

maybe this could be done like the directory file opus filter system :
http://www.dopus.com/manual9/NetHelp/default.htm?turl=WordDocuments%2Ftheopusfilefiltersystem.htm

however this should??/could??/must?? be much much simpler ;)

Find And Run Robot / Re: custom file explorer ?
« on: March 13, 2009, 03:33 AM »
if AketeFolder plugin was first then the same questions about precedence would have arised with Akete plugin  :D

however if we really want to handle precedence problem i suggest we go for the full blown AKETESUPERSTAR plugin
with an hyper complex filtering system where you could see things like :

(if the extension of the file is xxx
AND
if the file is in Folder yyyy
AND
file has been modified within zz hours)
then open with notepad++

i still think a AketeFolder plugin would be neat ...
[AketeFolder]
C:\_user\Folder Shortcuts=C:\_common\programs\FARR Scripts\open_lnk.ahk

 :D

Find And Run Robot / Re: custom file explorer ?
« on: March 12, 2009, 06:02 PM »
It works for me.... I have just copied your custom file explorer string and when i open a folder it opens in new tab on already open lister
i guess i should add that i want to open folder shortcuts in new tabs (not only folders) seems like it works for me too with real folders (i never use that...)

for those interested i found a workaround using Akete plugin and Autohotkey

Akete setting :
[Akete]
lnk=C:\_common\programs\FARR Scripts\open_lnk.ahk

and in the open_lnk.ahk file :
shortcut = %1%
if InStr(shortcut, "C:\_user\Folder Shortcuts") {
   FileGetShortcut, %shortcut%, OutTarget
   Run, C:\Program Files\GPSoftware\Directory Opus\dopusrt.exe /cmd Go "%OutTarget%" NEWTAB
}
else {
   Run, %1%
}

basically all .lnk files are "processed" by the open_lnk.ahk script (thanks to akete)
if the .lnk file is in my "folder shortcuts" folder, the target folder is extracted then passed to my "dopus command-line"

akete is a neat plugin ;)

Find And Run Robot / custom file explorer ?
« on: March 12, 2009, 05:08 PM »
Hi,

i can't make it work as expected.

farr.jpg

i'd like to open folder shortcuts in a new tab of a directory opus lister
unfortunately it opens in new listers every time

the command-line is :
C:\Program Files\GPSoftware\Directory Opus\dopusrt.exe /cmd Go "$$1" NEWTAB

but it seems that the NEWTAB part is just forgotten

any idea ?

Find And Run Robot / Re: [bug report] about html view
« on: March 12, 2009, 09:38 AM »
great it works  :Thmbsup:

thanks mouser !

however, i'm pretty positive :
htmlviewurl C:\_common\test\index.htm
worked at some point (it was in several aliases of mine)

this command is still in the help file !! :
htmlviewurl URL - grabs a web page url and displays content in html view mode (this can be http://.. or file://)
and no showfilehtml...

time to update the help file mouser  :P

Find And Run Robot / [bug report] about html view
« on: March 11, 2009, 05:56 PM »
hi mouser,

before
htmlviewurl C:\_common\test\index.htm
would work ...

not anymore
now you have to do the following... :

restartsearch viewhtml file:///C:\_common\test\index.htm \n

i had to work quite some time to get there ;)
  • restartsearch is needed... i have no idea why (without restartsearch viewhtml just does not work at all...)
  • htmlviewurl is now viewhtml (should be reflected in the help file)
  • need to put the file:// protocol with a additionnal /
  • \n because of restartsearch

Find And Run Robot / Re: Alt+P hotkey broken?
« on: March 11, 2009, 11:04 AM »
i think he is saying the new alt/ctrl+P functionality that works from within the edit box can be accidentally triggered if you pull up farr with something like Ctrl+space and then start typing a word that begins with P, for example.  am i right?

you are right mouser ;)  :Thmbsup:

Find And Run Robot / Re: Alt+P hotkey broken?
« on: March 11, 2009, 03:50 AM »
sorry to interrupt...

@mouser, since you are currently working on FARR, could you please make those hotkeys optionals ?

for medium to fast typists, those hotkeys are triggered when using ctrl+space or alt+space (to trigger FARR)

i had to disable them using autohotkey...
LAlt & o::
return
LAlt & p::
return
...

+1
 :Thmbsup:
especially, history and hotkey

144
On a side note, have you tried:
for searching php functions?

nope, but i should...  :Thmbsup:
however, the idea behind my php functions search is to search among existing functions... not just search php.net site : www.php.net/%keyword%

145
sorry if i'm not clear enough ;)

take a look at my tiny tutorial to see what i mean :
https://www.donationcoder.com/forum/index.php?topic=17270.0

146
as i understant it, the idea of the #filecontents command is to "only" externalize the list of results you put inside the result box within a alias edit dialog to an external file
so that you can edit your alias or share it much more easily

147
@ewemoa

that would be indeed very interesting

and what about the following ?

  • Set up an alias using #filecontents pointing to some file (call it A)
  • Use a plugin to execute a file (exe, lnk, ahk, whatever...) which create a temporary file (that way people can create the file using autohotkey or any other software)
  • When the temporary file construction is complete, move / copy it over A

or this one :

even better (mouser's idea) what if the plugin could add suffix and prefix when executing the result
let's say the mycontactlist.php returns :
John Smith
Bob Brown
Steve McEnroe
etc.

let's say the suffix would be :
http://http://www.my...com/search.php?name=

then you could create an alias to query a contact list online and then open the resulting page in your browser... awesome

suffix and prefix support would be really awesome

could be to search php functions...
juste have a list with all php functions
then have the following suffix :
http://www.php.net/

 :D

hope someone will do it some day !!!

There is a brand new (and major IMHO) feature in the last FARR release... that is : #filecontents

it allows you to "externalize" aliases... here is how :

1) let's take one of my favorite alias the "g" search, i use it to search google in various ways, yahoo, look up words, etc.
here it is in action :
farr.png

2) here is the alias in the options dialog:
options_before.png

3) instead of putting the results right inside the alias edit dialog use the new #filecontents command :
f | #filecontents C:\_Garbha\Program Files\_FarrAliases\g.txt
Please note that the part before the actual #filecontents is needed, otherwise this does not work (the "|" seems to be needed at present)
options_after.png

where g.txt now contain the result list that was previously in alias edit dialog
file_to_be_dumped.png

done !

so why is it such a great feature ?
i will give you three reasons :

1) it is as fast as an internal alias

2) it is much easier to edit an "externalized" alias
you can use your favorite editor... full screen... on a secondary monitor...
and see the results in FARR in REAL-TIME
believe me it is a real improvement

3) you can share your aliases with much more ease...
once you've set up the alias... you basically have to copy and paste a file

even better, if you use Windows Live Sync/Foldershare (or dropbox ?) you can share modifications you've made in real-time with no intervention whatsoever
(once you've set the folder containing the files to be dumped to be synchronized...)
how is that ?  ;)

Once again mouser, you made my year with this new feature...
keep up the good work

149
hi Nod5,

i'll post a short tutorial about this feature when i have some time.

however just try to add that in front of your #filecontents command :

anything will do | #filecontents FILEPATH...

it seems that the "|" is needed to make it work  :huh:

cheers, Nitrix
