FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FARR plugin: Akete
« on: February 19, 2009, 08:34 AM »
you are right about precedence and in general about the fact that it is not trivial

the way i see it, is a bit dumb i must admit ;)

i simply told myself : that is a nice plugin ! what if we could trigger what application to run based on the file's path

it could be a completely different plugin with no connection whatsoever

when using Akete plugin, we are talking serious fine tuning and i believe that people that use it, know what they do
i will not ask for a refund if it creates some after effects ;)

as a simple example, please consider the following :

i have a folder named snippets with all sorts of code snippets inside...
i'd like to use FARR to search for one of them then copy its content to the clipboard thanks to an homemade .exe

with the Akete.folders ;) plugin i just do :

[Akete.Folders]
C:\Documents and Settings\My Snippets=C:\Program Files\copytoclip.exe

of course i could do it now with Akete, by specifying a special extension :
[Akete]
.snip=C:\Program Files\copytoclip.exe

but for some reason i would rather not go this path

so my suggestion is : if you do it, do it any way you see fit  :D

PS : It could also be part of FARR core-functions right within the Search folder interface...

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FARR plugin: Akete
« on: February 18, 2009, 04:23 PM »
any implementation would please me  :D

my goal is to simplify my workflow when using FARR ...

i have several aliases with action and folder modifiers (ex : Favorites search $$1 | dosearch +folder_fav +open_fav -alias $$1)
having this folder-based configuration would remove the need for those aliases...
and therefore remove the need for the few first characters (to trigger the aliases...)

so much power, i would feel like a super hero  :-*

very nice plugin  :D
plugins that enhance core FARR features are great

let me suggest the following feature that i would love to see :

what if we could specify what application to run based on the file's folder

[Akete]
    C:\_joker\lnk=C:\Program Files\Notepad++\notepad++.exe

would mean every file inside C:\_joker\lnk should be opened with notepad++

that would gives us even more power !

Keep up the good work

ctrl+enter never worked... this is just in mouser's mind... maybe because it has been resquested so many times  :D

thanks for the tip armando  :D

@Armando
what's your trick ?
i've made this request several times with no luck  :'(

Could you ask mouser not to forget about the future ResultFromFile command  :D

as always, if possible make it an option ;) (maybe some people prefer the way it works now)

Find And Run Robot / Re: Search and Alias history
« on: August 12, 2008, 02:16 AM »
Knew that was coming based on our previous discussions cheesy. I really think is the wrong way to go for this though. from a ui standpoint you would be adding an additional dropdown/up box. i think this would add another layer of complexity and it just doesn't seem that intuitive. Not sure how this would work for mutliple result aliases unless you only had one type of search group. It seems like extra steps for me and not as flexible.

IMHO, it adds no complexity, autocompletion with drop-down box is not new, and is immensely used all over the web for instance...

it cannot be more intuitive than that ! not intuitive would be to mix results with history...

It seems like extra steps for me and not as flexible
i don't see any extra step and i think it would it be more flexible and fast ?

considering history i think we both agree that :
FARR should save more than 20 entries
it should be possile to save history items in different history files/section
those different history files/section should be searchable via aliases (^gh (.*) dosearch historys \HISTORY=google $$1)

now considering the use of history items in aliases, i really think the best is to use autocompletion (with a drop-down box) like in any other application
plus this system would enable other uses (like action modifier completion etc..)

Find And Run Robot / Re: Search and Alias history
« on: August 11, 2008, 08:47 AM »
/HISTORY=search
to save a particular alias usage to a particular history file is good idea

then i think the best way to show the history file entries (when using that alias) is to have a drop-down list next to the cursor or above the FARR windows (that would be even better IMO)

but i think NOT in the results list since the majority of aliases have multiple results

which makes me wonder, how would you do for multiple result aliases ?
for instance :
$$c | http://www.google.com/search?q=$$c&btnG=Search /ICON=icons\google.ico
Google France 100 htmlview | htmlviewurl http://www.google.co.../search?hl=fr&q=$$c&btnG=Search&num=100 /ICON=icons\google.ico
Past Month | http://www.google.com/search?q=$$c&btnG=Search&as_qdr=m /ICON=icons\google.ico
Lucky | http://www.google.co.../search?hl=en&q=$$c&btnI=I’m+Feeling+Lucky /ICON=icons\google.ico
Google France | http://www.google.co.../search?hl=fr&q=$$c&btnG=Search /ICON=icons\google.ico
Google roboform | C:\_Garbha\Program Files\FarrScripts\GoogleSearch\GoogleSearch.ahk $$c /ICON=icons\google.ico
Google anglais | http://www.google.co.../search?hl=en&q=$$c&btnG=Search /ICON=icons\google.ico
do you specify /HISTORY=google each line ?
that would not bother me...
in that case would it be possible to specify different history files...
that could be very handy :

$$c | http://www.google.com/search?q=$$c&btnG=Search /ICON=icons\google.ico /HISTORY=google
Google France 100 htmlview | htmlviewurl http://www.google.co.../search?hl=fr&q=$$c&btnG=Search&num=100 /ICON=icons\google.ico /HISTORY=google-france

what would the workflow be ?
type : g keyword1 keyword2
google history would be shown above the FARR windows
select Google France result
google-france history would be shown above the FARR windows instead of the google history...

« on: August 09, 2008, 04:27 AM »
@mouser,

i think it could be a focusing problem
i've already seen something similar at some point of FARR developement
maybe the wrong view mode is shown...

and "lv" gives you the last value

thanks for the clarification Armando

i think it would be clearer just to have the number of results reflects the number of results in the result list  :D isn't it logical ?  :P

keep that fast development cycle mouser !!  :D

Find And Run Robot / Re: Feature - Folder Search
« on: July 28, 2008, 03:06 AM »
Just wanted to point out that you can now specify which file extensions should be found in each configured search directory.  You can also use keyword modifiers to enable and disable these folders on a per-search basis.

GREAT !
i'm glad you made that addition !

174
hi,

noticed that a long time ago...

the number of results in the status bar is always wrong (with my settings)

remove duplicate links and remove missing items are checked

cheers, nitrix

One of the features i want to add very soon is an OPTION to say that FARR should not try to match aliases or plugins unless you start your search with a special character.  this could help avoid situations where people are having aliases accidentally trigger when they dont want them to.

so if the option was enabled for example then if you just type search words it will only match against files on your disk.
and to get an alias you would do like @music, at which point it would ONLY match against aliases.

maybe you could do it by adding a new dosearch command :
"dosearchinsidealiasesandplugins"

that way one could specify how to trigger it
