FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: New plugin: FARR MultiMonitor
« on: June 24, 2008, 02:44 AM »
you are right mouser !

thank you phitsc

202
any news on the update ?

203
i am going to be adding a feature to aliases so that you can choose to launch them as soon as they match, without having to hit enter. will be soon
please make this an option, since it would be a mess for a lot of users ...
for instance, most of my alias are dosearch aliases with one or two letter...

204
Hi mouser,

after installing 2.10.01 (from 2.08) i have launching problem with roboform passcards

before i would just launch passcards from FARR (as i would launch text files...), it would log me in to this forum, my bank and so on...
now it opens the passcard in roboform editor ...  :o

i'm not sure the new way you use for launching results solved that many bugs compared to the one it added (i was very reluctant before installing the latest version)

maybe one should be able to choose which one he wants

me ? i want FARR back to 2.08 ;)

Find And Run Robot / Re: How to get best juice out of FARR?
« on: June 18, 2008, 01:53 PM »
i am extremely concerned about speed and so far FARR is just the best, search is fast 95% of the time...

maybe you should carefully review all the search folders of yours, and check there are no remote folders
if i want to search a remote folder, i add it in the search folders BUT i add a keyword, so that it is not used when i perform a "regular" search

then to search on the remote folder, just create an dosearch alias:
dosearch nameoftheremotefolder

Find And Run Robot / [bug report ?] concerning result filter
« on: June 18, 2008, 04:48 AM »
i have the following alias :

regex (thanks Nod5 if i remember well) :
^g ((?:[^-]|-(?!-))*)(?:\s*--\s*(.*))?()

result filter ;
$$2

results (just a small part) :
$$c | http://www.google.com/search?q=$$c&btnG=Search /ICON=icons\google.ico
Google France 100 htmlview | htmlviewurl http://www.google.co.../search?hl=fr&q=$$c&btnG=Search&num=100 /ICON=icons\google.ico
Past Month | http://www.google.com/search?q=$$c&btnG=Search&as_qdr=m /ICON=icons\google.ico
Lucky | http://www.google.co.../search?hl=en&q=$$c&btnI=I’m+Feeling+Lucky /ICON=icons\google.ico
Google France | http://www.google.co.../search?hl=fr&q=$$c&btnG=Search /ICON=icons\google.ico
Google anglais | http://www.google.co.../search?hl=en&q=$$c&btnG=Search /ICON=icons\google.ico
Google News | http://news.google.fr/news?q=$$c&hl=fr&um=1&sa=X&oi=news_result&resnum=1&ct=title /ICON=icons\google.ico
Google 100 | http://www.google.co...&oe=UTF-8&q=$$c&btnG=Search&num=100 /ICON=icons\google.ico
Google France 100 | http://www.google.co.../search?hl=fr&q=$$c&btnG=Search&num=100 /ICON=icons\google.ico
Google Image gim | http://images.google.com/images?as_q=$$c&hl=en&output=images&svnum=100&btnG=Google+Search&imgsz=xxlarge&safe=off&as_st=y
Google Maps | http://maps.google.c...&geocode=&q=$$c&z=16&iwloc=addr
Translate en fr | restartsearch gt en fr "$$c"

so to do in google image search i just type :
g keyword1 keyword2 --gim
or
g keyword1 keyword2 --imag
...

i noticed that whatever the filtering i always have the last one :
Translate en fr | restartsearch gt en fr "$$c"

i guess it has to do with restartsearch

it would be nice to fix that since if you mistype something, then you launch that result ...

207
nod5, it's a bug, it should allow it since it is in a local file. will fix in update for this week.
@mouser, does a file residing on localhost is considered as safe ?

208
i'm not doing it on purpose, and it should reset to default when you start up the real Internet Explorer.
when i start up the real internet explorer the user-agent regedit entry remains the same

i'm trying to get it to stop doing this (temporary) change
so unfortunately it does not seem to be temporary

209
i have the same registry setting with the latest alpha version 2.08.02
i hope it will be corrected, since it may have some unexpected behavior

one of the latest FARR release (do not remember the exact version) changed the user-agent to a mobile one...
it was really really annoying :
gmail was shown as the basic html version
lifehacker.com showed its mobile version
etc.

210
There's only an "igo " before every URL...

what if you navigate a bit ?
what if you do not use igo directly ?
consider this simple alias :
regex : ^php (.*)
php.net | dosearch htmlviewurl http://www.php.net/$$1
you never see the url in FARR search box, you'll see : php explode (for instance)

Or do you actually want to see the current URL?
yes i want to see the current URL and i'd like to be able to change it

you never changed a url by hand ? to change langage, pages, ... to select only the domaine name... and so on and on and on

Then one could easily write a little wrapper page with JS which shows the URL. I guess a full adress bar could be realized this way too (is it possible to retrieve the current URL of a page which is shown in an IFrame?)

yes this can be done, but current url of the activex web object is already here
why overcomplexify a simple problem

plus... i understand that mouser will make it optional so i don't think there should be any debate concerning address bar and mini-toolbar

the real debate concerns add-blocker, add-ons, ...
and for that i vote no  :P

211
i pretty much agree with everything you said Nod5

except i think 1 and 2 are needed
and more than that i think 1 is an absolute must

and i don't think it will be too much work for mouser and i'm sure you will be able to toggle it on and off...  ;)

Find And Run Robot / Re: File browsing
« on: June 15, 2008, 04:38 AM »
my prefered behavior would be :
left arrow goes back to search box and that's it, no deletion of last keyword/folder

so idealy maybe mouser can make it an option

already suggested :
i think some very special options, power-users oriented
could be changed in FindAndRunRobot.ini
that would be sufficient for me, no need to be in the gui
or that could be done through a "registry like table" within the options
where mouser could put other settings
there is such a table in directory opus options (once again pretty amazing options gui)

Find And Run Robot / Re: File browsing
« on: June 14, 2008, 01:20 PM »
When browsing on my hard disk I always see the current folder as the first entry in the result list. Furthermore it's written in lower capital letters, even if the original name has upper capital letters (all the other entries are capitalized correctly).
In my opinion there should be an option to remove the first entry. But on the other hand you could also add a ".." entry (for the sake of completeness, which will navigate one level up).
+1

When pressing "left" in file browsing mode while the focus is in the list, the level above is shown but the focus is completely away! Neither in the result list nor in the input field.
true, i also reported that for historys command

I am still troubled by the idea that we are getting dangerously near the precipice of making FARR a "browser with some extras" which is not what we want.  We want FARR to be a launcher with some extras including a mini browser for specific tasks.  If people want to use a nice big browser, they should use their browser.  We don't want FARR to try to be competing with real browsers in terms of surfing features.

100% agree, i suggested the idea of an html view for FARR just after you made the showfile command
precisely to use quick and dirty tools, to look up words, to create opera speed-dialog startup page, to use single-page wiki, etc.

FARR should not become a full-blown browser...
i personnaly don't see too much benefit in having regex pattern to know whether one url should be launch internaly or in the default browser...
i don't see benefit in choosing font-size, ...
i don't think implementing any kind of popup killer, ad-killer, ... is a good idea
if you do it without adding to much memory footprint then fine, i will not complain as long as every new feature can be disabled...

FARR is a launcher and should stay a launcher... you want to google something, fine you can do it in the internal browser then somehow you fire the results in you full-blown browser
opera speed-dial like startup page would act as an advanced menu, definition lookup is ultra quick...
this is very fast browsing...
that's really the way i see it, FARR will be used for specific browsing tasks that takes less than a minute
of course some will use it for more than a minute, but somehow i think features to be implemented should be chosen with that 1-minute browsing rule in mind

Having said that and bearing the one-minute rule in mind :
address bar is a must
so are some buttons to "use" the current url
and %lasturl% is a must too ;)

i already suggested the following but i do think this is important (for keeping FARR a launcher)
there should be a way to click on a link to that it would open your default browser AND closes FARR (so that it really acts as a launcher)
i would suggest shift+click (since it is the default hotkey to open a new tab/window in major browsers)
i noticed shift+click was working great when having ie7 as the default browser, but nowadays i'm using firefox3 as my default browser.. and shift+click opens a new ie7 window each time i do it

the only question is whether to let it be toggled on/off and how
i suggest :
in options you could set default behaviour : either on or off
through alias or plugin you could force one or the other (htmlviewurltoolbar and htmlviewurlnotoolbar, or switches)
when in the internal browser, we could toggle it using a function key (or maybe a button in status bar if it's possible)

[bug report]

pb of focusing
if you do:
igo www.donationcoder.com
then neither the search box nor the html view is focused

however if you do :
igo www.google.com
it works ok (there is a javascript script to focus the search box...so the htmlview is focused)

215
just a reminder, i know from experience that some script need to be run on a web server
this wiki seems to work nicely, but let's not forget that some could need a web server therefore instead of having :
htmlviewurl file://%FARRDIR%MyLocalData/webtool
we would have :
htmlviewurl http://localhost/webtool
and a web server running  :'(

@mouser,
i'm really happy that you are starting to enjoy the html viewer a lot
(no, it is not just an new view for plugins  :P)

+1, for specifying windows size in alias, regex mask and what not

but

+10 for address bar (this is an absolute must)

+10 to be able to close FARR, then activate it again and switch to htmlviewurl with the last url re-loaded (very useful for GTDs, quick look up, etc.)
to keep things simple, and as a first step why not have a special variable in FARR : %lasturl%, so one could quickly build an alias :
dosearch htmlviewurl %lasturl% (we could then associate it with a FARR hotkey or in FARR toolbar)

+9 for mini-toolbarr (with those 2 special buttons : copy url to search box, open url in default browser)

idea : at some point people will not change font-size in browser anymore, because everything graphic does not change
there is much better way now with zooming (firefox has it, internet explorer has it, ...) BTW very useful when surfing on a full-hd screen...
maybe it is possible to have a special command in an alias to tell FARR to auto-zoom the webpage width to FARR width ? (by increments specified by the user ?)
of course once again this has to be optionnal, i personnaly won't use it (since i'm in full hd and my FARR windows is around 900px wide;)) but i think it could be a cool feature

Find And Run Robot / Re: old IE of HTML view - solved
« on: June 12, 2008, 12:20 PM »
I was confused that in FARR forms are displayed differently than in IE7
\
yes this is true... funny ?? strange???

Find And Run Robot / Re: old IE of HTML view
« on: June 12, 2008, 12:10 PM »
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0)

same for me
i guess this is normal ;)
since i see this from internet explorer 7 (full-blown;))

218
when you are in the result list... if you press the left arrow, it suppresses the last word
(since sometime there is only one word... you can end up with an empty search box)\

and worse, neither the result list or the search box has focus, so you have to press escape OR use you mouse to regain focus

IMHO, the expected behavior of the left arrow (when in result list) is to put the cursor back to the search box -- at the end
like the escape key actually...

219
the farr:// links will ONLY work when found in local files or showhtml text, they will be ignored for security reasons if found on an internet file.

the use of the internet for collaborative work is quite frequent, i have some tools i've developped which are on the internet
there is no way to use farr:// links ?? maybe have a white list in FARR settings saying you want to add such and such urls ... ?

when tools are run locally : http://localhost .... does farr:// links will work ?

Find And Run Robot / Re: Access Violation
« on: June 11, 2008, 11:37 AM »
Running FARR 2.06.05 I get an access violation any time I shut the computer down.

same for me but not the same file... OLEAUT32.dll ;)

221
if you want to play a sound when using an alias, just do the following :

Localhost | http://localhost/;;;...\path...\playwav.exe "C:\path...\CuckooClock.wav" /WINHID

you can download playwav here : http://www.muconsult...m/playwav/index.html
i guess there are better command-line sound player (playing also mp3...)

223
ok i just got it...

consider the following alias :
regex :
^(https?://)?(([0-9a-z_!~*'().&=+$%-]+: )?[0-9a-z_!~*'().&=+$%-]+@)?(([0-9]{1,3}\.){3}[0-9]{1,3}|localhost|alextd|mickytd|([0-9a-z_!~*'()-]+\.)*([0-9a-z][0-9a-z-]{0,61})?[0-9a-z]\.[a-z]{2,6})(:[0-9]{1,4})?((/?)|(/[0-9a-z_!~*'().;?:@&=+$,%#-]+)+/?)$

with this result :
$$4$$8$$9 | http://$$4$$8$$9
FARR browser | htmlviewurl http://$$4$$8$$9
when you select FARR browser, escape does not work

with this one :
FARR browser | htmlviewurl http://$$4$$8$$9
$$4$$8$$9 | http://$$4$$8$$9
it works as expected...

escape does not work as expected when htmlviewurl is not the first result

Find And Run Robot / Re: File extension filter

i love FARR  :-*

225
Find And Run Robot / Re: Open With
« on: June 11, 2008, 03:26 AM »
to be clearer: plugins have the ability to take over the launching of each file instead of having farr launch it.  and farr will ignore modifiers like +OPENWITH=blahblah.  so you just need a plugin that decides to look for +OPENWITH and takeover those launches.

that would be excellent, and as you know mouser, i'm not to much into plugins, i much prefer aliases (they offer more liberty) !!

so plugins that benefits aliases are very welcome !!!!
