Find And Run Robot / Re: File extension filter
« on: June 11, 2008, 03:20 AM »

i already suggested this one, so i can only support it !

this is the only feature missing, so that i can say FARR beats launchy in every category...
like phitsc, i'd like to filter out many files for some folders... clean out the results a bit

227
a few releases ago, when in html view mode, escape would put the cursor in the search box
as of last release this does not work anymore, however if you click inside the html view, escape works as expected
so i guess the fix is to focus the html view

same goes with wheel... before wheel was working right away, now you have to click in the html view to focus then wheel works

228
It would really be great if nitrix (and others) would make some short screencasts demonstrating different ways they use FARR.

why me :o

i may do it some day... when i find time

in anycase one need a software to do screencasts, so my question is what is the best software to do it ??

230
very cool stuff!!!
nod5 that time one is a great one for demoing the new feature, very cool.

@Nod5, great stuff  :Thmbsup:

@mouser, i told you that many many uses would come from aliases (as opposed to plugins)  :P
hence, the need to polish the core functions

231
the way it worked before is an absolute must for a simple reason :

when FARR is focused you can "navigate" to super important aliases with hotkeys...
plus
it does what it says  :D you press the hotkey it actually does what you expect it to do

IMHO, now it feels like a bug not a feature  :P

PS: actually i run an autohotkey script :
i call FARR using CAPSLOCK (it opens with a blank search text)
then if a press CAPSLOCK again (FARR being focused) it triggers a FARR hotkey (to a specific alias...)
at some point i was doing it with command-line search switch but hotkeys are faster...

232
before this new release when FARR was opened you could still use FARR hotkey to trigger special aliases, now when FARR is focuses, hotkeys does not work anymore

233
@mouser,

great release, however i use _ a lot so that i'm sure some folders appear on top
which is not the case with FARR, they appear at the end

in regular explorer :
_folder
a folder
b folder

in farr :
a folder
b folder
_folder

is it by any chance fixable ?

Find And Run Robot / Re: [Feature Request] HTTP POST request

i use curl while waiting for an internal post command ;)

235
I think i'm going to remove all scoring from browsing mode -- so all files will display, and display alphabetically.  that would solve your problem.  anyone object to this?
excellent idea, i would even start using browsing mode if it was that way

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: New FARR Plugin: FCalc
« on: June 09, 2008, 11:33 AM »
great version keeping variables is a very good idea

i have a small request for the next release
what if i already use the ` key for something else (hotkey when FARR is focused)
it would be great to be able to have an additionnal way to clear history (say clearh for instance)

237
great

238
regex : ^h$
result : dosearch historys

unfortunately this does not work since new release
historys is broken

239
Find And Run Robot / [bug report] historys does not work anymore
« on: June 09, 2008, 05:43 AM »
when you type historys, you see your past searches
but when you select one, it just closes FARR (instead of putting the past search inside the search box)

since i use historys (through a simple alias), noresults, and google search around 50 times a day, this release have been completely unusable for me at this point.
i really really hope those bugs are gonna be fixed asap

240
create the following alias :
regex :
^g ((?:[^-]|-(?!-))*)(?:\s*--\s*(.*))?()

result :
$$c | http://www.google.com/search?q=$$c&btnG=Search /ICON=icons\google.ico

if you search with 3 or more keywords, FARR crashes, you have to kill it and restart

241
the noresults command does not work anymore :
i had :
noresults (.*)
result :
restartsearch g $$1

which worked like a charm
until the new release

i tried changing the regex as per help file :
^noresults (.*)$

still no luck

Find And Run Robot / Re: Today is release day !!!
« on: June 09, 2008, 04:33 AM »
why would you want to make it optional?
because i'm sure i will not use it, and i want to keep FARR always the same

maybe instead allow aliases / plugins to set specific sizes instead?
this is an interesting idea

Find And Run Robot / Re: Today is release day !!!
« on: June 09, 2008, 03:44 AM »
@mouser
please please mouser about this automatic resizing business, please make it optionnal in any case
thanks in advance

regardless, let's remember FARR is not meant to be a full browser, this new view mode is mainly meant for plugin writers to display custom output.
IMHO, the new view mode will be used mainly for aliases

Oh! Another thought. Now that we have this browser plugin, we need someone to allow things like define, wikipedia etc to open in the FARR browser. Especially when you're just going to be looking for a quick answer rather than wanting to launch your browser.

you can already do it :
php search :

regex
^php (.*)

result
php search $$1 | htmlviewurl http://www.php.net/$$1

Find And Run Robot / Today is release day !!!
« on: June 08, 2008, 04:15 AM »
don't know if you are as anxious as me, but today the new FARR version is released !
i can't wait  :D

247
i also noticed that, what i do is what you did last...
always use a regex mask

name of the aliase :
keywords

regex :
^keywords$

other things i do (for modifiers)

for folder keyword i use : folder_nameoffolder
for action keyword i use : open_nameofprogram

i always do that since if you use the same name, you can have very strange behaviour (very difficult to "debug")

Find And Run Robot / Re: Multi-selecting in dropdown list
« on: June 06, 2008, 02:50 AM »
having suggested that quite a few times, i can only support this

I'm not sure abot a mini-toolbar and address bar.

i think the mini-toolbar and the address bar are really important,

having a 1920x1200 screen, my FARR window is more than big enough to quickly google things (without any scrapping), use simple local webtools
single-page wiki (http://www.tiddlywik.../www.tiddlywiki.com/) and many other things...

it's not meant to be a replacement browser, but an address bar is no gadget
and basic possibility like refreshing the page (F5 should work), go back, go forward, stop would be nice

in anycase maybe mouser can add an option to hide this mini-bar ?

Find And Run Robot / Re: Instant infos via aliases?
« on: June 02, 2008, 08:49 AM »
I think it makes sense to start with a very basic textfile search capability first and then expand it if and when demand occurs.
i agree

When the user inputs "info tag1" FARR would output "data1 data2 data3" (or "data1 \n data2 \n data3")
i think it would be better to have the whole line i.e. : tag1 data1 data2 data3 (or "tag1\n data1 \n data2 \n data3")

Moreover, i think one should be able to search the full line
not just tag1, tag2 but the full line...
