Description
A Handy Dandy System Admin Tool
To do all those things you *want* to do when managing a new system.

Notice!
This program will trigger most antivirus apps; make sure you add System's folder to your antivirus exclusion list.  Also, if you use this on your flashdrive, beware of the computer's antivirus or it will steal the exe from you.  I've never been able to figure out exactly what is making this app appear dangerous, so I can't fix that.  I also don't ask for any money or anything in return, so if you don't use it because you are afraid, then I'm not going to lose any sleep over that.  haha!  I use this program myself and designed it to suit my own purposes.  Hopefully, you will also find it useful.

Features
  • Portable
  • Tiny interface
  • Completely customizable menus, commands and main interface
  • Advanced RUN box with memory - this needs some work, however; just warning you.
  • Instant Computer Info in main panel - click the values to copy to the clipboard.
  • Access the default Windows system menus, control panels and commands
  • Add your own commands
  • Have multiple menu and info configurations and switch betwen them.
  • All of the program menus also appear as a menu for the system tray icon

Planned Features
I wrote this program because I often have to set up computers for other people, or I have to do maintenance or fixes.  It seems I always end up using a whole bunch of programs to do things - a folder full of tools, and I can't remember or find the ones I want, sometimes.  With Systemus, I have a single program that I can use as a launcher.  It also tells me the most basic system information that I want, such as ipaddress and mac address, Windows version and what model of computer I'm working on.

There are still a bunch of bugs to fix and some features to tweak.

Usage
Installation
Simply extract the contents to whereever you like.

Using the Application
Using this program, you get a one-stop program that can give you quick links to all the Windows control panels, built-in applications, and system menus.  You can customize the menus to contain just the ones you like, and you can add links to your own programs, portable or non-portable.  You can run scripts, batch files - anything you want.  You can even add your own menus and submenus.

Uninstallation
Delete the folder containing the application and its settings.

Known Issues
Well, I am writing it to work for Windows 7.  Most of the commands should work for Windows 10, too, but I don't have any way to test this.  When I finally migrate my computer to Windows 10, then I'll update the program with Windows 10 features, but I don't know when this will happen, and it will probably be awhile.  In the meantime, I am willing to accept suggestions.

Systemus will probably trigger your antivirus.  I haven't figured out why, just yet.

Looks like mouser needs to update the template. It should say and link to NANY 2020, not 2019.

Good! One of those "why haven't I done that" ideas.

Looks nice!
Maybe let users add new items (shortcuts) to a "Custom" menu?

Unfortunately not the case: GEGeek Toolkit  When the guy started with this project he offered it as freeware. Nowadays you must donate before you even get access to it. I found an old freeware version of this software and it is impressive. All tools you need and like to do every (maintenance) task you can think of on a Windows computer. Most of it is portable software, some software will install. This also keeps an eye out for updates of the software you use with GEGeek and it allows you to easily launch the software of your choosing.

As the version I have is old (2012 if I remember correctly), there are quite some issues with available software and the updates. But you do get what an Herculean effort this is and why he (more or less) demands donations for the latest and greatest. Working with that old version (or trying to make it work by yourself) isn't recommended.

GEGeek, by now, is very extensive and I am usually of the opinion that less is more. So I am interested in what the OP can come up with.

Mouser - haha - users can change ALL the menus however they want.  It will come prebuilt with defaults, but you can change *everything* and even add your own entire menus and as many custom items as you like.  The idea is that the program can become what YOU want it to be.  Systemus is supposed to be a central command center.

But it will provide easy ways to launch the system things.  Custom things are all up to the user, of course, but there's no limit to that.

There's all kinds of system launchers out there - I wanted to try my hand at one in my own style, and I think I've created something unique and quite adaptable.

Shades mentioned a hope for simplicity - well, you can't get much simpler than good 'ole Windows menus, I think.

This Systemus looks cute. I would like to test it under Windows 8 when there is a test build released. In what language is it written?

Ah!  I'm working on that.  The program works for the most part, but my documentation needs some work.  I'm going to try and post a download in the next few days.

It's written in Autohotkey.

I'm upgrading to Windows 10 in the next weeks, and I'll be able to refine it to Win10 then.  Right now I'm a bit overwhelmed by things...

But I'll have a release for the new year, even if I'm not completely finished.

Updated to version 1.2.  (I think I broke the package with 1.1 and it wasn't there to download)

If you have any former version of this, please remove it (just delete all its files) before using this one.  It configures differently.
Actually, if you have any menus, you can use those okay.

This version allows you to have multiple configurations and switch between them, so if you have a menu you want to keep, you'll have to add it.  Please review the chm file.

Yeah, I know.  That's because it's capable of launching system files.  When I compile it, it sets off my own antivir.  haha.  I had to add the compiler to the ignore list.

Really, it can't do anything you don't tell it to.

I noticed that too.  The first version didn't set off my antivir.

I'm reckoning it was one of the two new command:
flushDNS
or ClearAllCache - it's probably this one - it clears the system memory.

Here is the code for the clearallcache, if you would like to see it.  I bet it is this.  I didn't write this snippet, but it's a nice thing to have in a system management application.

I think I will remove that last function in the next version just so it doesn't set off alarms.

I'm thinking of allowing custom user colours in the main window.

I *could* make the information in the main window so the user can choose what information displays there.
Is there anything in particular you folks would like to see there that isn't there?  No lists, please, just individual values.
I've probably already got the basics of what an admin will need.  If he needs more than this there are other programs that can do a better job.  The idea is for the quick, most needed information.

Also, I need to do some testing on the commands for shell, comshell and the control panel.  I'll try to put up a list of what is actually happening so you all can give some input.

I do not think that it is wise to remove features because of a shitty antivirus and its false positives.

smaragdus - normally, I would agree, but it actually sets off my own antivir when I compile it.  It keeps triggering even Microsoft Security Essentials, and will probably get picked up by my firewall and set off flags there, too.  If I don't remove it (it's just one command) then I'll be getting notices about it from everyone who downloads it.

If I remove that one command, then it doesn't set off my antivir, so I can confirm it is just that one command.

I'm pretty sure it's because the command affects the current working memory.  It only clears it, but it has access to that memory, so it sets off the alarm.

@beetles - You didn't happen to read the last few posts on this thread did you?
@smaragdus - See what I mean?

Okay, I've uploaded version 1.3 without the clear memory cache function.  It should now pass your Antivirus tests.
There are some other new and fixed things, too.
