One hopes that if unfortunate to be caught in a situation like that in Aurora, one would have the courage to lay down their life for loved ones.  But life is a hard thing to put on the line for anyone, which in my estimation makes these young men heroes.

Three survivors of the Colorado movie-theater massacre escaped with minor wounds, but were left with broken hearts because their heroic boyfriends died saving them.

In final acts of valor, Jon Blunk, Matt McQuinn and Alex Teves used their bodies to shield their girlfriends as accused madman James Holmes turned the Aurora cineplex into a shooting gallery.

Blunk’s girlfriend, Jansen Young; McQuinn’s girlfriend, Samantha Yowler; and Teves’ gal pal Amanda Lindgren made it out of the bloodbath — but they would have been killed had it not been for the loves of their lives.

It think -- means "Stunned" (alternatively ++ ) or possibly "I can't look" or "I had to shut my eyes."

I have an odd question: How come the cops shoot people in Anaheim and Oakland, beat homeless people to death, and pepper spray students for sit-ins, but this James Holmes guy shoots up a theater and there's not a scratch on him?

Second, imagine if the guy had been a Muslim. The US government would be tripping over themselves to pass Patriot Act III: Arrest EVERYBODY!

@zridling - You're a good guy and I like you, but while the questions are valid...this ain't the thread for them.

So what ya say we just join in on Renegades moment of silence and let it be. ;)

Yes, heroes.  Exactly the right word.

Not to take away from the personal and noble sacrifices made by Jon Blunk, Matt McQuinn and Alex Teves...but I'd prefer to think we could use less people like James Holmes.

There are far too many dead heroes in this world because of guys like Holmes. The last thing I'd ever want to hope for is more. :(

I think the sentiment is related to the strength of character it takes to be ready to do something like that.  What greater love is it for fellow man than to be willing to lay down one's life in defense of another?

This confused me for a minute. James Holmes being the crazy shooter, of course we need fewer of those. So no contradiction at all, the world needs more people like the three heroes, and fewer crazy shooting people. So I guess that is the same as what you are saying. I think the use of the word "preference" confused me, as if it were either/or.

Not to take away anything from what happened, or the trauma this guy encountered, but a survivor is suing the shooter's doctor, the movie theater, and warner brothers. Warner is being sued for "dramatizing violence".

Warner is being sued for "dramatizing violence".
So, he was watching the movie (I suppose not against his will but because he liked it) and now he's suing warner? Isn't that a bit hypocritical of him?
Also, I don't want TSA to be at the door of every single room with more than 20 people I enter. This can only end badly.

Understood and agree 100%. That's exactly how I took it. My point was more along the lines of why does somebody decent always end up dying or getting hurt because of people like gunman J. Holmes.

Just a minute? I usually confuse people for several long minutes when I say something. Must be losing my touch. ;)

Check the atty's homepage. Are we surprised?

Funny how it wasn't a victim's family - but rather a victim's theater companion - who was the first to sue somebody.

Like Henley and the Eagles said in their song Get Over It:

You say you haven't been the same since you had your little crash
But you might feel better if they gave you some cash
The more I think about it, Old Billy was right
Let's kill all the lawyers, kill 'em tonight

America. Gotta love it.

It is an either/or. We can either have more heroes to throw into the machination of lunacy ...or...(preferably)... We could have less lunatics that force heroes to be "validated" in death.
