Living Room / location triggers for android
« on: November 03, 2014, 02:47 PM »
hello!

I want to do stuff (like activate wifi, etc) when I enter/leave specific locations

so far, there are two methods to do that, one with CELL ID and the other with GPS

GPS seems to be more accurate but it's resources consuming

is there a way I can select a CELL ID and select a radius to define an area?

thanks!

Living Room / auto wifi
« on: October 25, 2014, 09:59 AM »
Hello
Often in order to connect to a wifi network, it is required that you visit a webpage and click there a login button or enter your username and password and login etc.
This procedure you often need to repeat after some time.

As you understand, this is very problematic. I just want whenever I am in range and whenever I have wifi enabled, I want to automatically connect to the saved wifi network, without having to do extra actions.

Is this possible?

I understand that the network administrator may somehow control access to the wifi, but since I have the credentials, I want to automatically connect!

Is there any fix for this?

Thanks!

Living Room / voice message decoding
« on: October 22, 2014, 04:03 AM »
Hello!

I often receive a voice message on my mobile saying blablabla call me at 0728473832, etc.

Is there an app that will automatically detect that phone number and offer me to call it?

Because I have to listen to the voice message a couple of times and write down the number and then dial it, etc which is a bit tedious and risky for errors

Thanks!

PS: I can see a problem with when voice message contains extension phone numbers, but okay.

Living Room / when will we eventually be able to
« on: October 20, 2014, 11:09 AM »
hello!

when will we eventually be able to go to a petrol station, fill our car, and pay automatically, contactless, instantly?

by a system that will recognize our plate and charge our account accordingly?

ok, if you want we can enter our pin to authorise the transaction, but for me personally it isn't necessary

thanks!

Living Room / latex
« on: October 15, 2014, 03:21 PM »
hello!

it seems latex is the preferred system to write technical/math documents

but I find it hard to learn all these commands

the best method to learn them is by using them, but I don't want to check a book all the time to see which command I should use

instead, I would like a GUI (webpage or app) that will have buttons to generate the latex code for me

eg. will have a square root button and by clicking it, it should pop out the latex code

is there anything like this?

thanks!

General Software Discussion / Satnav for android
« on: October 14, 2014, 02:26 PM »
hello!

I am interested in a satnav application for my android mobile

I opted for Google Maps, because it has the excellent feature to search for any type of word and return excellent results (like post codes, points of interest, etc)
for example searching for 'starbucks' returns starbucks stores starting from the closest, not starbucks of other countries like other GPS apps do
it corrects error spellings, it suggests brilliant results as you type, etc

so, is there any other app that uses the same or even better search? I don't want those GPS apps that you have to choose post code, then enter number, etc, I want to submit what I know about the location I want to go (eg, 2 EA4, and to understand and find the correct one, ie that 2 is the street number and EA4 is the first part of the post code, etc)

I would stay with Google Navigation, but unfortunately it speaks very fast and without any gap between words, so it makes it hard to understand

Also, it doesn't mention which side of the road to stay when you approach a division of the road and it doesn't repeat enough times where to turn, before you do the actual turn.

Any hints?

Thanks!

Living Room / driveless cars
« on: October 14, 2014, 04:54 AM »
hello!

the technology is here: we have developed driveless cars that you just enter the car, say where you want to go and it goes you there, without you having to do anything at all

but why such a revolutionary technology isn't yet on the streets?

experts say that it's because there is a legal gap about who to blaim when something goes wrong, in an accident for example: blame the user? the manufacturer? what?

well, in my opinion this is non-sense

with driveless technology, imagine how many accidents will be prevented (huge cost impact) and how many lifes will be saved (priceless)! and imagine how much time we will save from our lives! numerous hours of driving, stucking in traffic, etc!

so if driveless technology will give us all these, let's make a global referendum if we want it or not! and then, let the government decide who to blame in case of an accident, it's not big deal if accidents will diminish!

what are your thoughts of these?
imagine you will work on your laptop during your travel from home to work! or you can sleep! and imagine the deaths and injuries that will be prevented!
let go driveless asap!

Living Room / internet of things
« on: October 12, 2014, 02:31 PM »
hello!

we eventually developed technology so that we can transfer data fast and easily.

however, we haven't done anything to transfer things fast and easily.

imagine you are at home and you realized at 1am that your toothpaste finished
then you go to your computer and you order one from the supermarket website and...
in few seconds, a robot picks it up from the central warehouse of your city and places it in a network of tubes, which will eventually end up in your house!

or if you prefer transfer by air, a small unmanned aerial vehicle flies from the warehouse to your home and places the items you ordered in a specialized slot of your house!

how far are we from that?
is there any initiative that works towards that future?
shouldn't World Nations agree to develop that technology asap?
what are your thoughts?

thanks!

General Software Discussion / problem with win8 right click
« on: September 12, 2014, 05:37 PM »
hello

in win8, I right click on a button at the taskbar (that represents opened windows) and the resulting context menu, immediately animates and goes to the top of the screen, without leaving visible the 'close' button! and it appears less than it's full size!

this is a major annoyance that existed since I bought the pc with installed win8

any hint?

thanks!

General Software Discussion / comment on my business plan
« on: September 10, 2014, 05:46 AM »
hello!

I have a fairly large target group of people who:
  • they don't know much about PCs
  • they have computers and their computers are necessary to them to do their job consisting of simple tasks
  • they have outdated OS, crappy hardware

can you suggest me please what services or products I can offer to them?
their need is to make their PC more responsive, etc, and their demands are very low (basic web browsing and MS Office)

I was thinking of installing to their PC a Windows version that will be extremely light, in order to significantly show them that the lags and reezings are gone
Or install a script or program that will help towards that direction

Or maybe you have other suggestions? Sell them hardware? How? Anything else?

Thanks!

General Software Discussion / diagnostic tool
« on: July 29, 2014, 05:55 AM »
hello!

I play an online game and I get extreme lag. I know for sure that there isn't a network problem or my hardware being weak or something. So I assume there is a software conflict, like some software (antivirus? backup? anything else?) access the files of the game and causes this problem.

How can I find it, instead of by trial and error, ie. disabling software and testing?

Is there a tool that will list all the processes that access particular files or a particular folder?

any other idea?

thanks!
