Version HistoryChangelog
Author Jody Holmes (Skwire Empire)

Description
The original request was made by berkland in the Coding Snacks section earlier this year.  The request was for a batch editor of .LNK and .URL files.

Features
  • Easily edit .LNK and .URL files in single-mode, multiple-mode, and using find & replace (with or without regex, too).
  • Initial changes are made to the listview.  Final changes are only written to disk when you're satisfied with the list and click the save all button.

Planned Features
  • Option to choose the font used in the list.
  • Undo/redo operations for the list changes.

Usage
Installation
Download the zip file and extract its contents into a new folder.  Run SCURLed.exe.

Using the Application
  • Launch application.
  • Add .LNK and/or .URL files to the list via drag'n'drop or via the menu commands.
  • Explore the tabs and make changes.  Click the "Apply changes to list button" as you make changes.  The list will update, but no changes are actually made to the .LNK or .URL files.
  • When ready, click the "Save all changes" button to write the changes to disk.

Uninstallation
Exit the application and delete the folder you unzipped it to.  No changes are made to the registry.

Tips
See "Using the Application" section above.

Known Issues
As this is the initial release, there are bound to be some bugs.  Please work on copies of your .LNK and .URL files until you get the hang of the workflow and to ensure any bugs present do not mess up your production .LNK and .URL files.

Looks like it could be the shortcut editor to rule all shortcut editors

This looks like a cool program.  I am absolutely in love with skwire's apps and I wish development would continue for Splat (although admittedly it does everything I want!).

NANY is such a  cool event.

I miss two functions in SCURLed:

1.) SCURLed should have a function to open the base directory of InternetExplorer Favorites resp. Firefox/Chrome Bookmarks and read them all automatically (full dir tree).

2.) SCURLed should have function to find all .LNK files starting from a base directory (e.g. partition D:\) and load them automatically.

Can these features be added in the next release?

Thank you
Peter

Nice work skwire!

Is it by design that the filename of .url files cannot be edited (that editbox is grayed out when I run the program)?

1.) SCURLed should have a function to open the base directory of InternetExplorer Favorites resp. Firefox/Chrome Bookmarks and read them all automatically (full dir tree).

I'll think about this for Internet Explorer favourites.  Firefox and Chrome, however, do not use URL files for their bookmarks.

2.) SCURLed should have function to find all .LNK files starting from a base directory (e.g. partition D:\) and load them automatically.

I will add this in a future release.

Is it by design that the filename of .url files cannot be edited (that editbox is grayed out when I run the program)?

I left this out for now until I get some feedback on the LNK/URL data handling.  I will add the ability to change the name in a future release.

Enhancement request:

Once user gets all the urls into your program, please allow for the ability to save the list.  Say, to .txt file.  Better still, .html file.

And, at very least, allow copy.  That way user can copy and paste to their own .txt file.

Thanks!

How do I scan a whole partition for all *.url files and add them to list?

How can I verify/check the validity of all listed *.url files?

Unfortunately the good old program AMDeadlink is outdated since it uses InternetExplorer engine as underlying browser.

Can you add *.url verification feature to SCURLed?

Thank you

Not sure if this is a bug due to Windows updates...

I loaded a URL link.

https://akas.imdb.com/title/tt0020678/

Run search and replace "akas" to "www"

Applied changes to list and the list updates.

Click Save all changes, but link still shows its original akas destination. And no change has been made.

When looking at the properties in Windows Explorer "Link Target" and "URL" still show as "akas"

I have also tried single edit which also failed.

One feature that seems to be missing is an option to clear the list.
Why an I Magician62? Because Magician1 thru 61 were gone. :)

Very useful !
It 's not open source ?
Some possible improvements :
 - allow to move the separator between the editor and the list : by defaut the "default edit" fields are too small for long path.
 - allow to run a shortcut to test it (right click -> "execute")
 - simple press enter to apply changes ? (with or without confirmation in settings)
 - color each line green or red to show if the link is working (file exist)
 - allow to edit shortcuts directly in the right panel in the table
 - allow to scan a folder (File -> open all .lnk in a folder (with an option recursive or not)
 - a button to refresh the current view of the shortcuts (in case you have edited one outside the software)
 - do not expand environment variable (to avoid to replace %COMSPEC% in the single edit for example)

Thank you for this software :)
