Black & Blue
Like Noir?  Like Sci-fi?  Like a weird mash-up of the two set in a what-if-the-set-for-Blade-Runner-wasn't-so-futuristic-and-more-like-80s-Chicago kind of environment?  Like limited color palettes?  Here ya go...

Some lady is trapped in a room somewhere forced to manufacture some kind of contraband, so she gets sick of it (obv) and tries to get out in the most insane way possible.  Hilarity ensues.  With robots.  And crime syndicates.  With robots.

So, for the last few years, Black and Blue has been a side project of mine, to create a world in my own visual style. Being a long time fan of classic film noir movies, I try to incorporate elements of design and story telling from that genre of film, and to create something unique and interesting which reflects the things which have inspired and drive me to do what I do.
My first foray into comic books was a one off first issue of Black and Blue, which has since changed and evolved to an online bi-weekly format. I find that it’s a good way of engaging and developing interest in Black and Blue, while still producing and honing my art.
Thank you for visiting, I hope you enjoy Black and Blue.

OK, so that was my "A-list" of comics I keep up on pretty regular.  There are a few that are on the "B-list" for varied reasons; whether not updated recently or I only check on them every so often due to updates being infrequent, or they just haven't been around that long and the story isn't quite fleshed out.  Let's get this B-list started with...

Blackgrass
Blackgrass is written and drawn by kino and edited by Ryan.

This is a story about a clairvoyant/spiritual medium named Rev. Abel Ruby, a sweet, well-meaning preacher who is slowly losing his faith and gets contracted into working for a lost soul that needs his help to find redemption! He begins to realise that “God” isn’t quite what he’s led to believe, and his perception of faith gets turned on its head! It is a long-form, fully coloured comic that will update Mondays and Fridays of every week!

A bit of an update...

Well, it looks like BlackGrass went on hiatus, it hasn't been updated for about a month now.  I hope the author is doing ok...

Stand Still, Stay Silent just threw everyone for an emotional loop in the latest update, but it's a masterful bit of storytelling.  No fair skipping to the end! Start at the beginning or at least after the prolog.

I also have a few more to share in the next few days or so, but it's bedtime so until then, check out the fine webcomic collectives at:

This one has moved from the B-list to my main rotation, it's that good.  This is Ben Fleuter's spiritual successor to his earlier comic Parallel Dementia and recycles some of the main characters but with a more fully fleshed-out plot, and better artwork.

The Sword Interval
The Sword Interval is about a world on the verge of a supernatural apocalypse. Most of humanity goes about their daily lives trying to ignore the constant threat of magic and monsters, but a few face these dangers head-on. Fall is one such person. She has left behind the sheltered safety of the paranormal witness protection program in order to hunt down the monster that killed her family.

Still in the B-list because I'm not 100% positive what the hell is going on in this one, but an interesting read nonetheless.  Apparently a trio of mad professors graduate college together and make a bio-chem lab with a big secret.  One of them goes madder than the others, and hilarity ensues when a hapless repairman enters the fray.

Not Drunk Enough
A quick repair at a huge corporate lab during a late night shift should not have sent Logan into a hellish landscape fraught with monsters, but it looks like Lady Luck decided to give him the middle finger. Logan would like to give one back.

Woo-hoo, this is a good one.  If you loved old-school sprite-based adventure/puzzle/dungeon games and want to mash it up with some good ol' fashioned mutant monster horror/gore (and hacking!), this is a good comic to follow.

Blood Is Mine: An Interactive Webcomic
You wake up in a hospital room.

You are wearing a nurse uniform and bloody bandages. You have an empty syringe in your hand.

Something is banging at the door. It wants inside.

What do you do?

The author sets up the story, and each subsequent panel and story bit is based on what the commenters suggest.  It's kind of fun seeing how more followers begin to fill up the comment section, and the story gets deeper and deeper.

Do you like post-apocalyptical stories?  Did you like The Rats of Nimh?  Check out Scurry:

Scurry is the story of a colony of mice in an abandoned house who are struggling to survive a long, strange winter. The humans are all gone and the sun is rarely seen. As food becomes scarce and many mice fall ill, the scavengers are forced to search farther from their home, braving monster infested lands in search of anything that will help the colony survive another day. Being hunted by feral cats and predatory birds is part of life for these mice, but beyond the fences stalks something far more fearsome...

Two really cool meta fan comics imagining the life of fictional cartoonist Jon Arbuckle (owner of Garfield the cat):

You have to be familiar with the long-running uber-popular Garfield comic to appreciate these.

Stand Still, Stay Silent has closed it's first adventure, and Minna has now started on adventure 2!

Also, she's started a narrative RPG based on SSSS called "City of Hunger".  Check out development here:

and download the first demo here:

Apparently, it runs OK on Linux with WINE, so I'll be checking it out in a few...

Mouser's post about the System32 webcomic got me to re-visit this thread.  Here's a good one I've started reading recently:

Welcome to the future – where our world has become an exercise in contradictions. We are more connected than ever but alone. Healthier than ever but sick. Safer than ever but ultimately vulnerable. Seed is a story for these future times. Where the relationship between a girl and an AI system that begins simply, quickly complicates things for the entire world.
Start at the beginning:

Wow, there's even a trailer video.  *Beware; contains spoilers* (for the first few episodes, anyway)

Panzer, please stop joining threads and just posting lists of links. Nobody wants to see that, and as stated previously, it doesn't actually contribute to the discussion.

At a minimum, include a useful description about what you're linking to. You should also include a sentence or two about why you like it, or recommend it, etc. Basically, you should tell us why you're linking to it and give us enough context/information to know whether or not we're interested enough in it to click the link. And to make an even better impression, you can include a screenshot or video of what you're linking to, if appropriate.

Hey, it's been awhile...

Just wanted to stop by and say that the Seed webcomic is now wrapped up with a three-page epilogue, and man what a wild ride it was.  With AI being a hot topic these days with all its attending "what-if"s, it's a more relevant read than ever.
