NANY 2014 Roundup Prep
« on: January 02, 2014, 12:46 PM »
Ok so it's almost time to prepare the roundup summary of all NANY 2014 entries.. Kyrathaba has been doing all the good NANY management for this year.. I don't know if we can talk him into doing the roundup summary, but we can beg and hope..

To make this easier though, it would be great if authors could make SHORT video screencasts demonstrating their entries, and either uploading to youtube or somewhere, or using some of the free online screencast tools (for example see here, here, here).

Hm, creating a screencast of a rather static screen only showing an url and the last 'button' pressed isn't worth the trouble, imho.

I have added  a screenshot to my NANY entry 'NANY 2014 Release : WinButtonsWebServer plugin for WinButtons' though :tellme:

Hmm. I'm of a couple of mixed opinions on what to do with mine. Hence why earlier I joked that they were "components" aka "0.25 of an app each" and not proofed apps. It was too good of a box of tinkertoys to leave hidden forever, but they're unpolished and not really "safe for production". I just decided to unload them now before I forgot them completely! I included (almost) all of the source codes, so what I'd really be thrilled with is if someone adopted them into a "late nany".

Videos would "oversell" them in the stage they are in. For example half the buttons on the "Turbo Processor" don't even work. I got stuck in Proof of Concept before I ran out of dev funds, and that one is definitely a "coding lunch". The modules mostly work, but see my detailed posts; they all have medium serious bugs to sign off. :(

I think we'd like to have videos for all entries, however modest, for the sake of completeness and for the sake of those who may link to our Roundup. I'm willing to use and write blurbs for apps (maybe three or four of us could split up that task). I don't have screen-capture tools, but if people can supply a video I'll incorporate it into my review. Ideally, considering the number of entries, four or five people could help, with Mouser signing off on blurbs before they go "live".

That being said, I'll make a list of the apps and post it here, and we can update the list in subsequent posts, putting our name next to whichever apps we "claim" for writeup.

A more careful look shows 36 apps.

Here is the list (also attached as text file). Please copy, amend, repost to show your name by those apps you'd like to lay claim to for purposes of doing a screencast/writeup. Mouser and I will act as editors, and mouser will have final say-so before posts go live.

;D  Thanks.  After all the hammering that I get from mouser to do a screencast, I'm glad somebody has watched it.

Thanks K!

I've added badges for everyone we have on record as having released a NANY2014 app.

You can see the list here:  https://www.donation...badges;show=nany2014

If you released a NANY2014 app and we left you off the list, speak up and let us know!

I will be emailing NANY2014 participants shortly so that I can send you out your mug gift certificates.  If you don't get an email by sunday, let me know!

Hallo.

I didn't want to get into a video with my suite of prototypes, but I would like the badge if that can be worked out.

And someone do please look at them and tell me if anyone finds at least one of them useful!

Awesome stuff.  =]  Hard to believe we've been doing this for so many years.

I'd dub 5 or 6 of my 13 entries as "decent". The rest are trivial. This year's Sudoku app was a *@!# to code...

I bet! From what little I know there are some nasty edge cases!

Thanks to mouser, kyrathaba and all for all their efforts in running NANY.

This has given small developer like me to showcase our apps. I will remain grateful to DC for all the praises I get for the NANY apps.

Regards,

Anand
