Thanks, folks.  I wrote this for my own use (as opposed to a request) and I like the way it turned out.

Which OS?  Also, are you running this in folder the app can write to?

I absolutely love this tool!!! As a television show enthusiast, this will come in very handy!

The only thing I could see this needing is a "minimize to tray" or "startup in tray" option with bubble notifications, along with a way to view "recent" episodes as well as scroll ahead in upcoming episodes.

If I am correct that it is

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows Script Host\Settings
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Script Host\Settings

then it is enabled.

Doubtful but not sure if there is something wrong with my XP, one way or another I can try epCheck on Windows 7.

It could be that the scripting host isn't registered on your XP machine.  According to this post on the AHK forums, you can try this from a command prompt:

regsvr32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\msscript.ocx

If that doesn't work, there are a few other files in that post you can try registering.

Strangely none of those listed in the linked thread made a difference. Same error.

However it works fine on 7, if you want to pursue the XP issue further, I will try other things. However, if there are no other similar reports then it's no problem, who knows what's up with my XP (if all goes as planned I will say goodbye to it in April anyway)

Yeah, strange, but thanks for trying.  For the record, I have tested epCheck successfully in an XP/32 VM.

XP and yes writable folder (often use desktop without issue)

Not all apps run well from the desktop. Try moving it to somewhere else. I have learned from experience that the desktop is best for storing shortcuts to apps and not the apps themselves.  ;)

Tried elsewhere, same thing. XP is slowly giving up just in time for April  :D

Working well on my XP machines...both of them.

Works fine on my XP machine also.  One thing that I noticed- it brings up a copy dialog when downloading the information, which it doesn't do on my windows 7 machines.  Not sure if that's related, but figured I'd bring it up.  Maybe it's not the downloading... it's the copying of the information?

Right...the FileSystemObject stuff is used to extract the zip contents and copy it to epCheck's data directory.  The downloading of the zip file is handled in a separate function.  With all this trouble using the Windows native stuff, I wonder if I ought to use, say, 7-Zip's commandline executable to handle the unpacking of the zip files?

Personally, I would see if its an issue.  With only one reported incidence of the problem, changing your approach based on that would seem premature.
