on a different note:

(see attachment in previous post)
Panasonic Lumix CM1 First Impressions Review

cant see this doing that well - high-end point & shoot's have been getting very fancy of late (with prices heading towards the 1000$ mark).
They have zoom (usually not that much, but still a big factor) - but then I guess this has a phone....

this version has come to the US - first look via imaging-resource.com

Possibly of more long term interest (?) - a multi-lens camera is in development for smartphones:

Startup Light “reimagines photography” - Will phones finally compete with cameras for image quality?
(imaging-resource.com again)

and an interview which gets fairly technical at times (I didnt read it all)

This might be considered humor if it wasn't so sad...

Texas School Suspends 9-Year-Old For Terrorism Because He Brought Imaginary Hobbit Ring To Class

And people wonder why I think that the education system as it is should be entirely scrapped. Viscously. Without mercy. Without remorse. With fury and fire.

But, further comment is a Basement discussion.

However, I'll be damned if I don't mention 2 names:

Those 2 people are GIANTS in a world of Lilliputians.

Richard Grove has interviewed both of them.

At first glance there, I just about had a heart attack. I really don't want to read about cameras from Glenn Grenwald on First Look. :)

That looks very cool. Multiple lenses just makes sense in so many ways.

I'd thought about that many years ago. I used to work at a 3D audio company, and the principle is the same -- multiple sensors for the same source. In 3D audio it's an HRTF - Head Response Transfer Function.

It seems rather odd that it's taken so long for that to catch up in the photography space.

My guess is that we'll see something similar in the video space. It's not really that hard to do once you combine the right sensors. All you need to do is map the data. Granted, that's a big task computationally, but the logic isn't all that hard. It was all done many years ago in audio.

Once it's done in video, we'll have some pretty funky hologram stuff. :D

^ The software is already so sophisticated, and getting much more so with this.
If/when that works well, it could be a brilliant advance.

I'm not too surprised to read that the school suspended him. After all, the teachers must have been scared stiff until they realised that it actually wasn't a real Hobbit ring - invisible or not.
One can't be too careful. The precautionary principle needs to be applied at all times, especially when it is a well-known fact that shadows can and indeed sometimes do jump out at you and attack you.
We should thank our lucky stars. If we didn't have teachers and others in positions of authority standing by on vigilant guard for things such as these, then where would we be?

The news and improvised Mrs. Malaprop is Ricky (NSFW). 8)

I have no clue why I wrote that. Best guess is that I was somehow channeling Jim Lahey.

PRODUCT FAIL:
The Samsung GT B2710 ruggedised mobile phone.
Branded as being near-indestructible, this phone:
  • Can withstand being dropped repeatedly from 3 meters onto hard concrete, with no significant damage, and function normally afterwards.
  • Can be left immersed in water, yet still ring when called whilst under water and function normally afterwards.
  • Can withstand being driven over by a car, repeatedly, with no distortion of the case or significant damage, and function normally afterwards.
  • Has an incredibly hard, scratch-resistant display.

I tested all of these aspects of the phone, and found them to be true.
However, a major design flaw was exposed when I discovered a couple of weeks back that, if you wrap the phone in a towel and put it in a microwave oven and radiate it for 20 seconds, then it produces acrid, vile-smelling smoke and cannot function afterwards - though the SIM and memory card seem to be OK.

"Ruggedised" my #rse.

Did you keep it in your pocket while putting it through all these tests? How did your body handle that treatment?  ;D :-\ :P

I believe they mean cookie "batter" not "butter"
-Arizona Hot (May 11, 2015, 02:32 PM)

The container in the video says Speculoos Cookie Butter.

... now I gotta go look up what "cookie butter" is.

Cookie butter is *AMAZING*. I mean, if you're into that sort of thing (the flavor, mainly - kind of like gingerbread). If you do like the flavor, it's like spreadable cookie. Awesomeness.

I have been tempted to try it, but I fear being underwhelmed.  Although the top rated review on Amazon is quite a hoot, and makes me want to:

I don't even know where to begin... words cannot describe the evil.

It was November of last year when I purchased my first jar of drug butter.

You could make your own cookie crack: Make Cookie Butter at Home with Four Ingredients

Counteracting some of the evil by recycling stale cookies ... although after you dip them in your coffee it doesn't really matter if they were stale to begin with  :-\

In my desire to think outside the box about this probable boring stock photo, I considered the possibility that this is 3 guys with one of them a cross-dresser.
