Podcast Audio Radio Show - Upcoming Show Planning

I thought we should start a thread for discussions rather than having a long discussion on announcement board:

I'd love to hear some interviews with freeware developers and other rogues.  be irreverent and make it fun :)

irreverent and fun? Now we're talking my language.  I suppose I still have to supress the English dialect I learned in the Navy, eh? :D

maybe we should think of some ideas for segments:

1) get a digital handheld recorder and go on the street and do some interviews with people.
suggested questions:
"do you know what the terms freeware, shareware, open source, and donationware mean? describe."
see if you get some funny answers.

2) find a freeware program on the web and email author to see if they will do a phone interview with you about their software.

3) interview people on the street and ask them to think up a new idea for a program or web application they would like to see.

other ideas?

maybe something like this would be good for interviewing people on the street?

http://www.olympusam...uct.asp?product=1178

or

http://digitalmedia..../2005/05/18/ds2.html

or

http://www.oreillyne...o_digital_voice.html

we might have to give out one of these as a prize for best submitted podcast segment..

another idea:

interview people on the street and ask them about their first computer experiences.

more ideas:
write a song about cody.

i think it would be nice to have a segment on skrommel and autohotkey in the first podcast.
either skrommel talking himself about how he started getting into ahk and coding, etc.
or an interview by someone here of skrommel.

on a related note, maybe someone could post a tutorial on using something like skype to have an audio conversation over the internet and record it?

i got told that installing linux on your ipod enables you to record 44.1kHz audio rather than the crippled crap you get using the default thingy with the.. uhhh.. griffin mic or whatever it's called

i have yet to get an ipod to test this tho ;)

here's another idea for a regular segment:

is there anyone who regularly gets mad at something in the software world, who might want to do a regular 5 min segment ranting against something each month: ie. spyware, microsoft, apple, vaporware, the music industry, etc.

You mean like
Q: "Did you ever park on the Gaza Strip?"
A: "No, no, I never do that!!"

A friend of mine saw that happening in one of those funny TV shows! ;D

Hey, I just found out about this.  I'll be willing to do a periodical rant where I can kind of vent about what's wrong and right about software in general.  I can even record a song (instrumental) "Ode to Cody".  I just got a minidisc recorder, so  recording should be a cinch.

I don't have a mic -- is a 3 minute silent segment acceptable as an artistic, humorous approach to computing without a microphone?

OK, i was just practicing and I think I have my "Ode to Cody" down.  It's a happy little jingle, I'll record it on my minidisc player and upload it tomorrow.  For all concerned, it's a Hammond organ instrumental.  I'll use it as an introduction and theme song to my podcast (if it becomes a periodical thing).

Okay, I don't know that I'm ready to dive into this, yet, but I do have some topic ideas for OTHERS to consider: ;)

•   What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done to your computer (to the actual hardware)?

•   What is the most accidentally ingenious modification you have ever made -- to your computer hardware, or to some software program?

•   When you were younger, was there anything you did on/with your computer that your parents said you were absolutely not to do -- and that even now, they don't know you did?

Nothing outright illegal and nothing actually sexual or downright mean (a few "weasel" words here).

•   If you could imagine a radical change in the way your computer and/or keyboard looks, what would it be?  Have you made any modifications to your computer in that direction?

•   Have you ever pretended to know more about computers than you did?  Were you ever found out?  If not, explain how you got away with  it.

Here's another (I'm feeling naughty):

When someone comes into your "zone" while you are making unauthorized use of your computer (or looking at something you don't want them to know about), what is your preferred method of quickly getting a blank screen, or getting the screen to something more work-related, or at least less embarrassing?

Can't help it; here's another:

Have you ever gotten a virus on a computer that is used by others and not admitted that you were responsible for it?  If so, were you ever found out?  If not, what did you do?  Did you work to eliminate it, and just not tell them the truth?  Did you just shrug your shoulders and watch them struggle with it?  Other possibilities.

It's not that I don't want to learn something from these podcasts.  I do -- really.  But I wouldn't mind hearing the answers to some of these questions.  I'm sure we can all "relate."

OK, I recorded the theme song for my podcast, it's called "Ode to Cody".  I'm going to have to record it again because I think I placed my stereo mics too far apart and I'm getting some weird effects, especially with the rotating Leslie speaker on the Hammond organ.  And the volume is too low.  But here is a preview of the tune:

Hey Allen, get on Metroid Prime Hunters with me and I'll hook my DS to the computer and record your voice in the lobby. Or I can record you getting whooped by me. ;-)

Or both.

Actually, if you have a speaker cord (soundcard to speakers) that's all you need to hook your DS to your own computer. Then run Electroplankton or something that lets you use your voice.

Nice job on Ode to Cody, SuperBoyAC. Great for background music to your rant, I'd think.

@superboyac.  Love your ode to cody.  Just right.  jazzy, jaunty.  builds nicely, too.

For those new to the forum, Cody is our little donationcoder.com mascot, perched in the upper right corner of the page -- who doesn't mind being petted.
