Anyone besides me find the lack of good, functional alarm clocks out there?  I find most alarm clocks to be pretty basic and lame, except for their cool looks.  Alarm clocks should have:
--digital tuner
--digital display
--presets
--at least 2 alarms
--good battery backup (lasts more than 5 minutes, good luck finding this one)

I have an RCA clock that does everything above, but the battery backup sucks.  I swear, I can't take it from one room to another without it resetting.  It's really annoying.  But otherwise, it's a pretty good clock.  I got it at Costco a couple of years ago.  I can post the model type if anyone's interested.  Costco now sells a Timex alarm clock, which is pretty good, but I felt this RCA one was better.

That looks like a description of my sony dream machine. ;)
As for the backup battery, i think it lasts for 30 minutes, if i recall correctlly.

I use my Nintendo DS as an alarm clock . . . battery backup isn't a problem, there . . . in sleep mode, it'll last a few weeks on batteries alone -- and it'll alarm when "sleeping".

via http://www.newlaunches.com/ it turns out that a copy of the blowfly flying alarm clock is now available for purchase, cheap:

You'll have to get up when this little baby starts, because it takes off and flies round the room, making a really annoying noise like a mosquito,
so you'll have to find it first, before you can turn it off. Even if you hit the snooze button, it will take off again, so it will undoubtedly get you out of bed, though of course it might smash the place up a bit before you catch it, and if you sleep with the windows open you might find yourself running round the garden in your jimjams (no way to wake up) and may frighten the neighbourhood dogs.

There's also a slight danger that if you are a really heavy sleeper, and the things flies around the room without waking you up, eventually it will run out of juice, so it could wake you up by dropping on an exposed body part, such as the head, though I suppose you'd at least be awake. Or unconscious, possibly!

However it's a terrific fun item, and has already won a technology design award for its innovation and flair and makes a neat gift for anyone who has trouble getting out of the old pit in the mornings.

I had to resurrect this old thread because of this:
Looking to put a little excitement into your morning routine? Rather than simply slapping your alarm clock to turn it off, do you want to up the stakes a little bit? Say hello to this crazy new alarm clock from Bandai in Japan.

The "Gun O'Clock" comes with an infrared gun. When the alarm goes off, a target will pop up from the top. In order to turn the shrill, beeping alarm off (which is coupled with a voice saying "Come on!"), you need to hit the bullseye. It's the perfect excuse to start sleeping with a gun under your pillow that has no chance of accidentally killing you in your sleep. It'll be available in Japan starting at the end of October for $34.
