May be an odd request but I will ask.

Lock the tree and/or confirmation when moving items. Believe it or not I have found myself moving items into My favorites that I didn't need to.

Please Mouser, can we have a way to integrate FARR and CHS?
(Cross link to previous threads asking similar things)
Funnily enough, I was thinking only today that if there were an additional feature that I would like to see in CHS, it would probably be the option/ability to search for a character string using the FARR search box (i.e, same as KlipKeeper).

KK has a useful thing in the shape of the ability to search the klips for a character string using the FARR search box. It's very fast. By comparison, though CHS has more functionality and is pretty sophisticated, I have sometimes found it to be a bit tedious to find an old clip in CHS, whereas it pops up real fast in the KK/FARR search. (e.g., kk +sall string)

+1 vote from me.

Also, per separate post elsewhere in the DC forum:
Please note that I have updated the post Re: Clipboard Managing-Which one?.
UPDATE 2010-12-23: I just found ClipGuru v2.9.0 as at 2010-03-10 on freewarefiles.com.
I have also saved this for people to download from Box.net in case it goes from freewarefiles.com.

Suggestion: Consider copying some of the features of ClipGuru - e.g., retaining the URL as part of the clip info where you have clipped from a website.

Might be asking a bit much, but I'd love to see Unicode support in this app.

Auto quick paste mode, where multiple clips can be pasted in sequence after being copied.  This is very handy when copying a series of clips from one application to another, like a postal address, or a URL, userid and password.

Hi Mouser, Thanks for your work on this excellent app..
Request 1:  Let me define what "Old" means.  I.e. any item from this week gets listed as a "new" clipboard item, even if my computer has been restarted...
Request 2:  More control over the quick popup menu, including the hierarchy of nested items...  My perfect popup would be as follows:
===============
New items
-----
Old items
-----
A single sub-menu of everything else.
===============

Thanks for considering this!  ;D

Better duplicate handling, so the current list doesn't fill up with dupes (and perhaps the option to allow / disallow duplicate detection if the difference is only in the case of the word/s

Ability to assign hotkeys to individual clips

Ability to define menu key (like, for instance, p&assword uses a as the shortcut)

Less SQL :-)

Can the installer optionally auto-extract when the cancel button's hit, instead of making you open it with 7zip or similar (this because I just KNOW there's gonna be more newbies along!)

A note from TSA:

So I've been using CHS for about an hour or so, and maybe I spoke too fast yesterday. Although it has many features I had been looking for a long time, it also has serious limitations.
I have this "{sendkeys}" bug when I try to format the text, for example.
It also doesn't seem to handle pictures and files and other non-text formats...
We'll see !

That looks like another vote for unicode and images. (Personally, I have no use for clipboard handling of multiple images -- but I might be in the minority!)

I second this.  Please offer the common SQL things as checkbox options, buttons, etc.

Re:
"Less SQL"
I'm not so sure I'd agree with this one.
I'd perhaps rather see MORE SQL, and MORE comprehensive instructions in the Help file to make full use of the SQL features in CHS.

For example, when defining the rules for a Virtual Folder, I'd like to be able to do something like:
IsFavorite=true AND ExcerptText=Databank
or IsFavorite=true AND ExcerptText="Databank"
or IsFavorite=true AND ClipText=Databank
or IsFavorite=true AND ClipText="Databank"

- but none of these seem to work, and I can't figure out from the Help what it is that I am doing wrong (e.g., is it syntax, or logic, or command structure?).

I think the ability to use SQL and Virtual Folders in CHS could make CHS a much more powerful and useful information management tool (memories of Lotus Agenda...sigh).

nobody is saying removing anything.  Just for the common things, an easier interface would be nice.

Automatic export of clips or the current clipboard  to certain folder(s)

@kartal:
"Automatic export of clips or the current clipboard  to certain folder(s)"
Do you mean the folders within CHS itself or within Windows Explorer?
If the former, then that was what I was after too, with my comment above:
"I think the ability to use SQL and Virtual Folders in CHS could make CHS a much more powerful and useful information management tool"

The feature to automatically filter a clip depending on the contents (e.g., the text strings) into a Virtual Folder in CHS, using the appropriate SQL, is either not enabled in CHS at present, or is too obscure for me to understand. The CHS Help document could perhaps be more informative on this one...     :(

You might want to look at ClipMagic (freeware):
   [...]
    * Categorise/Organise your clips. Create rules/filters for incoming clips.
      [...]
    * Quickly access the source web page of internet clips.

Two features that have been requested for CHS.  I used ClipMagic a bit, but ended up preferring ArsClip and CHS, often used in tandem.  But, ClipMagic does have those features, if they're what you want.

@mouser:
"See this thread and the sample URL virtual folder in CHS: http://www.donationcoder....um/index.php?topic=4135.0"
Many thanks! I took a look at that and then played about with the virtual folders using that SQL.
Results:
  • All clips with URLs were filtered OK using the rule: (Lower(ClipText) LIKE '%http:%') OR (Lower(ClipText) LIKE '%www.%') OR (Lower(ClipText) LIKE '%ftp:%')
  • All clips with "the" in the text filtered OK using the rule: (Lower(ClipText) LIKE '%the%')
  • Text filtering failed using a rule with an upper case character as the first character in the filter string- e.g., (Lower(ClipText) LIKE '%The%') - so it looks as though the syntax is upper-case-averse.   :tellme:  (?)

Is there somewhere you can point me to to bone up on the subject of SQL commands and syntax for CHS?

On a side issue: What is the best way to sort/reorder the virtual folders? I can't seem to get them to behave nicely at all by moving them around.

Sorry if some of this is irrelevant to this discussion thread.

Thankyou.

It looks like the first item is therefore already in CHS - and is exactly what I had been looking for but didn't know how to do until mouser pointed it out.
The second item (i.e., retaining the reference of the source URL) would be very useful. That's the sort of thing that I notice OneNote does, but it only does it for copy/paste of text and/images from a web page. If you copy the same section of that web page as a OneNote image clip (using the clipping tool crosshairs), then it loses the source URL.

A few comments, having used CHS in anger for most of this week...

My clipboard manager of choice has always been ArsClip. However, it won't play ball with the text editors I've tried to use for the work I've been doing -- Jarte primarily, but I'd have used OpenOffice or anything else that could do quick editing and basic formatting.

CHS has worked nicely with Jarte (if you haven't, try it -- it's a wrapper for WordPad, apparently, but is a very decent free rtf editor) but using it in the same way I'd have used ArsClip hasn't really worked.

I set a few favourites -- longish words I knew I was going to be typing repeatedly -- and set a shortcut up to bring up favourites to make them easier to get at quickly.

To begin with, I had four. A few hours later, I added another few. And my favourites menu, which I'd pretty much learned (ctrl-alt-f then 3 for the word "pharmacist" every time, for instance) changed, so I had to relearn it.

So first, I'd like to be able to control the order in which favourites are listed, preferably by drag-and-drop, but the ability to sort the list in some way -- like maybe alphabetically -- would be a good second best.

Sorting things in the main CHS window doesn't always seem to work and, even when it does, doesn't seem to affect the order in the popup. I'd like it to.

Back to what I was doing... Once I'd created a chunk of text -- this is a series of reports I've been typing up for my wife -- I'd copy it all to the clipboard and paste it into my DTP program.

CHS naturally keeps all those too.

I'd like to be able to tell CHS that chunks of text above a certain size -- maybe 1k? -- should be instantly purged from the database. Maybe allow some to be "locked" so they're not deleted...?

If I go through the clipboard to remove all those -- they're obviously mixed in with a lot of single word entries -- the behaviour of the list is very odd. I'd like to be able to work through the list from the top to the bottom, and perhaps sort that list by date captured, or clip length, to make that management process easier. (I may be missing something here, but it appeared that the highlight was bouncing around the list at random, although I suppose it might have been following an order I couldn't see and therefore couldn't sort on.)

Having said all that, I sort of get the impression that a lot of people are using CHS as something more than what I am...?
