Hi skwire, I use your program from a while now and works great!  :-*

I am a programmer myself (begginer) and I am trying to implement this IDropTarget in my application but I can´t find info on this. Well... I find but is all in C++ and it is very hard to me to adapt at Object Pascal (Lazarus).
Maybe you could explain (or point me in the right direction) in how you do in AHK. Maybe this is more easy for my to adapt to my program.

Thanks in advance!

Files 2 Folder uses a very old AHK library which I've attached to this post.

Batch Process multiple files, each to their own folder?
« Reply #254 on: October 28, 2017, 03:22 AM »
Hi,
Isn't it possible to batch process the basic task of File 2 Folder? i.e., I have 10 files name file 1.txt, file 2. text, file 3.txt,.... (one click batch process) and have them each go to folders named 'file 1', 'file 2', 'file 3', etc...
It would seem very useful when you want to run the basic File 2 Folder action but on multiple - and in my case hundreds! - files in one step?
Thanks,
chumbolito

Sounds like a job for my File Punter app:  http://skwire.dcmemb...fp/?page=file-punter

skwire, if I was able/capable of using it, maybe, but from the screenshot alone I can tell I won't. Don't know what 'regular expressions' are? Thank anyway, I'll now have a look at the one tomos posted.
Thanks anyway to both!  :)

Skwire,

Would you consider a feature request for Files2Folders. Ah, Files2Folders-- the code that saved our world from Armageddon. They teach the children of it, and it provides our people solace in trying times.

Anyway!

Sometimes I want the "target folder" to be created in a different directory than the one I'm in. Can a list of 10 recent directories or so be kept in a pick list and defaulted to the last-used? Also, and I'm not sure how this'll grab ya, sometimes I'd like the target directory to named for me. Can some random string, or perhaps a timestamp, or a combination be generated to offer me that option. These two features are great when weeding a directory (like "Downloads" that may not have been cleaned for a bit...) and wanting to keep the files, but get them out of my face, and put them in the canonical place I keep those files.

Again, loves me the Files2Folders, even without this goosing. If there even IS another computer program, I've never heard of it!

Most of these options, or close to it, are available when you select multiple files.  Have you seen that dialog?

Hi Jody, and thanks again for F2F.

Yes, I see what you mean about using the timestamping for the folder creation. That's fine for me, actually, for the "create a distinct-folder" times.

What I'd love is a way to keep around 10-20 well-known (or, secondarily, recent-- but configured is better) directories. Here's one use case of a couple:

The Downloads folder always collects files of a few types: PDFs, MP3s, soundfonts, ZIPs of various sorts, documents from work, etc. There's places for each of these things (even directories where "downloads" accrete, outside of the standard Downloads folder. For example, if I've downloaded some installers that I want to keep around, I might move them to a well-known but different places. Is there a way to do this, that I'm missing? Typing a long path or remembering (and losing) what's in the copy buffer are more dodgy than creating that list once-in-blue-moon.

Also, sometimes I'll explode a ZIP on the desktop or similar and want to re-constitute a different resulting folder in the canonical place (removing .DS_STORE, manuals for languages I don't speak, etc.). I know where I want that new folder to go, but it's somewhat multi-step to get it there.

Lastly, in my particular case, it could theoretically be better if F2F didn't quit between iterations, but that perhaps complicates things horribly, and it's not like F2F is slow or anything. But, could a flag be sent on startup that tells F2F to re-initialize, but stay resident between iterations? (There are hours where I'll go a-cleaning, and this could help one iota). Keeping it stateless has it's charm, so feel free to say so.

Unable to read text in Files2folder- too small on 4k tv
« Reply #264 on: October 03, 2018, 02:58 PM »
Hi - is it possible to change the startup resolution? I'm trying to use it on Win10 on a 4k tv, and the text is so small that it is unreadable.
Cheers
Steve

Problem: I have new version of F2F installed on top of an old version so things don't work very well. :(

I think I need some help with how to uninstall F2F and whatever set-up changes it has left behind before I can reinstall it.

The error message I get now is that the file is not connected to any application.

Question relating to Windows 10

Is there a way to run the program in "Program files (x86) and sub directories and get it to work there?

Currently, it does nothing (i.e. doesn’t give you an error or anything).

Thanks
Regards

I resolved the error message:  (and here's what I did to fix it)

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing...

_________________________________________________
FYI:
I'm running Win 7
My user account is a member of the admin group
I use 7-zip via the context menu to unzip archives

_________________________________________________

When I install an OS, I create a folder right off C:\ called "Portable Apps"
This is where I place all sort of apps that don't install themselves into C:\Program Files...

Screenshot of my basic setup....
SPAMALOT • 2020.01.04 • 13║52║39.pngDONE: Right Click any file and create New Folder by its Name

What I normally do (but it wasn't working):

I usually download an archive to "downloads", unzip it to a self-named sub-folder in downloads, and then move that folder with the unzipped contents to my C:\Portable Apps\ directory.

What I did differently::

Instead of unzipping the archive to a sub-folder in the downloads directory, I unzipped it DIRECTLY to it's own sub-folder in C:\Portable Apps\

Once it was unzipped directly into the directory it will remain permanently, I ran the .exe with with admin rights (from the context menu), and it registered (this step always worked though).

I then right clicked on the help.txt file for F2F and chose "Files 2 Folder" and wallah!

No more error!!!

HTH anyone else with the problem...

I'd love an option for a single file to be sent to an existing folder.

For example , yesterday I selected and sent

'All you need is love.mp3'
'Something.mp3'
'I am the walrus.mp3'

to a 'Beatles' folder because F2F allows me to name the folder multiple files are going to.

Today , I want to send 'Back in the USSR' to my Beatles folder via F2F, but I can't...

If I have more multiple files selected , then I *can* send it to the already-named folder

Is a switch possible in the interface to allow a single file to be sent to an already-named folder?

 :)

Yes, it is.  I've just been busy with other things.  This app is REALLY old and uses a library that was not meant for anything later than Windows XP.  The fact that it works on anything later (Windows 7/8/10) is a bonus.  I really don't like messing with this app too much.  That said, let me see what I can do for you.

Ok thanks. Very kind of you. The ability to send a single file to an existing folder would be a real plus.

Very useful program and very well written.

I use it a lot , but it seems dead and unsupported now. Great pity.
