Startup Delayer

http://fileforum.bet...Delayer/1088376249/1

Publisher's Description:
Startup Delayer allows you to setup how many seconds after Windows has started to load each program.

I suggest you get the latest beta from http://www.r2.com.au...blicbeta.php?page=12 - they fixed a problem I had in a previous version and improved various things.

This great tool has been running here for quite a while without problems, really great if you like to start lots of programs but still want Windows to start faster by delaying the not-so-important ones.

EDIT:
If you experience the problem that some programs are started twice read https://www.donation...99.msg14556#msg14556

Excellent find - I like the look of that.

I have been looking for something like this for years to cure startup bottleneck ... now to install and play ...

Same here, searched everywhere, didn't find anything really good. Then I found Startup Delayer and convinced them that the missing 5% I wanted would be really cool to have and they added it. :D

Installed it, and it looks to do the right thing.

Just wish the interface was easier to use ... it would be so good to edit the delays in the table rather than have to open a properties page, and confirm you want to open it for each app ...

Getting a sore wrist ...

Err... did you notice that you can just click an app in there and move its bar from left to right, according to what you want? :D

Out of curiosity, and not to appear too lazy :D, how does PCMag's StartupCop Pro 2 (http://www.pcmag.com...,1895,1830362,00.asp) compare to this? I've just downloaded and installed Startup Delayer and in the course of setting it up, it occurred to me that this is functionality that SCCPro shares.  Just wondered if anyone has experience with both apps?

Cheers,

Mike

I would guess the reviews on the page you posted should give caution.

Of course the other big difference is price  :-[

No I hadn't noticed that, and the help files are written for a different version so don't help!

Actually what I think would be nice is if the column where the delay is listed contained a slider for each app so that you don't have to do anything other than drag the slider from 0. By default all apps with 0 delay should be in their normal registry key, and only moved if a delay is entered.

Would make the whole thing instantly tweakable - and could still be reflected in the overview at the bottom - and so take a couple of minutes rather than the half hour it just took me.

The other change I'd like to see is to be able to simply select a block of apps (and change the order to the one you want by dragging) and then click on evenly space. That would really be neat. Maybe I'll drop the developer a line ... (I can say thanks then too)

Anyone seen copycat on the same site ... looks really neat if you are using a network computer - or even the internet since it is IP based ...

Ouch! I feel like a complete fool - PCMag usually has a forum for each of its apps and I am used to reading comments there. When I didn't see the usual link beneath the download link I looked no furtherĀ  :-[

OK - next source of embarrassment - how do I end quoting another poster and start my own comments on a white background?

Just start to type AFTER the last quote tag :)

Suggestion: Quote a quoted post just to see how it looks there, don't save it.

Thanks BrotherS! I'd thought of that but hadn't "thought it through" - I was thinking I'd have to post my message and didn't want to waste eveyone's time! Why I hadn't remembered the "preview" button escapes me. This is shaping up to be a bad day...  :o

I have the same question about DelayExec,  which is free.   Any experience?:

Well, obviously it's completely different, since DelayExec has no GUI... DelayExec might come in handy in combination with AutoHotkey or other scripting tasks, but I would never consider that to manage my startup folders - did you really read my first post? :)

I've been meaning 2 try Jackass JoeJoe's StartRight 4 ages but never gotten around 2 it.  For those interested:
http://www.joejoesoft.com/vcms/113/

These programs need 2 B able 2 incorporate all the features of startup selector programs but they still seem 2 B considered 2 seperate functions.

This is the best startup enabler/disabler I've come across:
http://www.windowsstartup.com/
It checks a database 2 determine what the actual startup programs are.

So I've been using Startup Delayer ever since this thread started...anyone else have this problem?

There are quite a few programs that get listed twice in the Startup Delay dialog, and even if I remove one of them, the program gets run twice when Windows starts up.  Also, i think I have one or two programs that get started twice even though it's only listed once.  It's almost as if Startup Delay can't accurately detect or control all of the startup instances of the programs.  Anyone else experiencing this?

You will be happy to know that you are not alone. I have the same problem. So it's not your system.

The only way to solve the problem is not to let Startup Delay control that it is unable to control.
