Hi guys,

I need some advice please.

I have ripped thousands of CD's over the years.  But the album booklets I have downloaded from various sources over a long period of time.

So basically I have image files in a multiple folder/subfolder heirarchy.  The size, quality & filetypes vary.

The size of some of these files is causing problems with some music software.  I need to optimise these files and there's too many to do manually.

Thanks for any suggestions.

PS I've always wondered if it's sometimes possible to reduce filesize without compromising quality.  I get the feeling some image creating programs didn't optimise the size upon creation (maybe older ones)?

When I use Files 2 Folder locally the process completes in a couple seconds.

When I use Files 2 Folder on my Drobo FS it can take up to 10 minutes for F2F to finish.  If I do it manually it only takes seconds.

Save but Hide gives the correct filename:
13-07-19_11.53.09

Hi Mouser.

Here you can see my naming pattern:
http://i.imm.io/1cBlE.png

If I choose Save but Hide, from the PopUp Choice Window, there is no problem.

But if I choose "Save Image As" the allocated filename will be, for example, Screenshot 13-07-16_14_26.png  So the filename has underscores instead of dots and there are no seconds.

Thanks for the replies.

I'd like to make simple programs to start with.  Like this:
http://skwire.dcmemb...?page=files-2-folder

I'd like to make iPhone apps.  Android wouldn't hurt.

6
If I have 2 files:
alpha.txt
beta.doc

When I use File2Folder can it have a dropdown box that allows me to select alpha or beta as the folder name?

Hi guys.

There seems to be a lot of coding languages.  I guess more than one of them is used for Windows programs?  Which ones?  How does Windows understand these different languages?

Thanx for looking.

Please consider an option to type your own name when creating a folder for one file.

Love this app.

Thanx.

Just curious.

Where is Picasa getting the file from?  Some temp directory?

Hi Mouser.

If I am running Picasa and I take a screenshot a file is created by Picasa: eg
C:\Users\username\Pictures\Picasa\Screen Captures\Fullscreen capture 2052013 11921 PM.bmp

If I delete that Picasa folder and take another screenshot the path will be recreated.

The file above is bmp but my preferences are set to png by default.  I'm also using a different naming structure.

Don't autosave captures is also enabled.

I am baffled as to why this is occurring.  Do you know why this is happening?

Please take a look on WWW and you will find that:
1. TC is not required,
2. simple "step by step how to" if written down there (even with movie).

I agree that mention should be made in the first post that TC isn't required.  I had to dig deep to find out if this works without TC.  I think you'd have more users.

Isn't it possible to create a registry key to use Comparer via the context menu?  Something like
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\Comparer\Command]
""drive:\path\Comparer.exe" %1 %2"

I'm not familiar with the formatting and you can't google search "%1".

If this was directly accessible from Explorer it would always be one of the first things I installed.  It should be built-in as default.  Thanks for sharing.

The most important feature for me is being able to access the program from the Windows Explorer right click context menu.  I hate having to open a program & rebrowse to the directory that I'm already working with.  That goes for any application.

I'd like to be able to merge duplicates with hardlinks.

Living Room / Re: In-car GPS
« on: January 27, 2009, 10:14 AM »
A mate took our Navman S30 to Europe.  He bought the European maps but the Navman wouldn't allow him to navigate to an address outside of the country he was currently in.  So he had to refer to maps to try and find out where he should cross the border and navigate to there.  Then he could navigate to his destination in the new country.

As you can imagine he made plenty of mistakes covering half of Europe resulting in many hours wasted.  Not to mention that refering to maps kind of defeats the purpose.  Since I'm going to Europe myself later this year I've decided I'll be buying a new GPS.  If anybody can recommend how to avoid this problem it would help me sleep easier at night!

Developer's Corner / What's the Best Programming Language For...
« on: January 27, 2009, 08:17 AM »
Hi guys.

I know nothing about programming.  It's something I've always wanted to get into & at the moment I have 2 areas of interest.

For fun I'd like to get into modifying Windows, particularly Explorer.  Sort of like QTTabBar: http://qttabbar.wikidot.com/
I notice that this application requires the .NET Framework.  I'm not sure if that is a language itself.

But for a higher priority serious endeavour I'd like to create a website similar to eBay in a lot of ways.  But I don't know anything about webdesign.  I don't even have a blog!

It's getting the ball rolling that is usually the hard part for me.  I'd appreciate any kicks in the right direction.

Thanks for looking.

I use SuperCopier:
http://supercopier.s...php?sel_lang=english

I did lose data a few times moving files on a network though.  Now that I've personalised the settings I don't seem to have that problem anymore.  If you are copying not moving then I can recommend it.

I haven't looked at the Robocopy GUI:

Post New Requests Here / Re: Idea: Pop out from directory
« on: January 23, 2009, 01:14 AM »
I know someone complained about this earlier.
There's a better solution than what you're thinking. Here on DC, someone made a program that unzips stuff always to the top directory, thus, it never creates the subdirectory you mentioned (even if it exists in the rar) ;).
Unfortunatelly, after a quick search, I wasn't able to find this program. But I'm sure someone knows what I'm talking about and will get you a nice link :)

I can't live without it.

Post New Requests Here / Re: Vista style filename editing in XP

Similar results for people too lazy for AHK (like me) can be achieved using QTTabBar, if I remember correctly, and even more advanced with Pitaschio, where pressing F2 cycles between filename, extension and full filename with extension. The latter also works in open/save dialogs.
QTTabBar also allows you to cycle your selection with F2.

Hey wr975.  I think I've uncovered a bit more of the problems now.

When I extracted 2 password archives I got the Smart Unpack error message for each.
When I extracted in the order of 1 regular archive then 1 password archive then 1 regular archive the password archive was deleted & an empty folder created.

The foreign character bug doesn't occur unless Smart Unpack creates a folder with the relevant characters.

The archives I have are hundreds of MBs each.  Maybe they were created on a native Asian version of Windows?  I can't create archives with foreign characters either but you can rename with foreign characters after their creation so try copying the exact characters from my previous post.

Thanx for continuing the development of this.  I don't think anyone who uses it could revert to not using it.

1 other thing:  I find the GUI gets in the way when it is busy because you can't move it.  Is it possible to change this?  It would be preferrable to be able to minimise it to the system tray.

I had a quick test of the multiple instance prevention & noticed no difference in behavior.  I'll keep an eye on it & let you know how I go.

PS  The new icon for the exe is a nice touch.

21
Yeah but it didn't work with the value U supplied.

Thanx anyway.

Ahhh...  My favorite script in the world. :)

If anyone's interested I haven't had the DEP problem since a clean reinstall of XP.  I guess the problem was caused by some other 3rd party addon.
Some bugs:
1.  When I used the GUI for multiple extraction WinRar asked me the password for a Rar file.  I cancelled via the WinRar prompt but Smart Unpack still deleted the archive.  Had I only been extracting 1 file I would have got an information message from Smart Unpack & the archive would remain safe & sound.

2.  I used Smart Unpack on an archive which had these characters in the filename: 专辑  It seems any of those foreign characters cause Smart Unpack to delete the archive & the temporary file leaving you with nothing!

If configured to recycle files, it'll now properly recycle split archive files in all variations (rar).

I love this.  After extraction files can be in a different order & sometimes filenames are too long to be able to see an extension.  As time has gone by I've realized how reassuring it is to have 50 split archives automatically deleted when an extraction is complete.  No chance of deleting the wrong file or not deleting one of the correct ones.

Still not working:
Prevent multiple instances. Please don't select several files and unpack them via the context menu. If you want to unpack several files at once, use the GUI.

I know this feature is not supported but I wish it was.  Maybe you have been waiting for an excuse to get back to playing with this!

When I unpack multiple archives at the same time they seem to unpack OK because the temporary folders in the root of the drive remain.  Wouldn't it be possible for Smart Unpack to check if it is already running & queue extractions like the GUI version if neccesary?

Coding Snacks / Re: CLIPSTEP from Skrommel; Script MOD

Hey TWmailrec, you've sure been busy.

Thanks for those early posts directed to me.  I didn't receive notice of replies.  I just tried your beta but the flickering & method of displaying the selected clip is personally not userfriendly.

Barnacle isn't displaying the toolbar's buttons for me but thanks.

I may troubleshoot it when I get some time.

Sorry about my late reply.  I didn't receive email notifications of the replies.

You guys are the best.  I should have posted here sooner.  I Googled for days & couldn't turn up anything.

tinjaw, I tried your solution & it didn't work.

Daleus, I then tried your solution & it didn't work either.

So I tried TweakUI & that didn't work!!!!!

BUT I tried other settings in TweakUI & found that the GUI describes the wrong setting.  When I set TweakUI to "Never show drive letters" I in fact had the setting to place drive letters at the beginning of all my drives.

I looked in the registry & this is the key TweakUI created:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer]
"ShowDriveLettersFirst"=dword:00000004

Thanx to all of you who helped.
