Removing the sidebar would be great.  I don't need to do this very often but that graphics review requires special relaxed reading over a cup of coffee.  Thanks nudone, mouser and others for the review.

Sorry I'm late in replying.  I've been away from my computer.

I would be interested in a method of printing out reviews (so I can read them on the bus on the way to work) which is more economical of paper.  For example printing out the recent Graphics program review directly from the website on A4 in portrait mode takes 52 pages.

In the review it is indicated that ThumbsPlus is a good choice for large graphics collections.  Does anyone have an opinion if it is better than ACDSee for this purpose?

I bought SmartPix Manager some time ago and one of the reasons was it enable viewing of thumbnails acrosss many directories.  Are ACDSee and ThumbsPlus good at this?

Thanks,

Jeff

Image Manager Shootout / Re: Thanks Nudone, great review!

Thanks, nudone for your review.  I shall now read it more thoroughly as I have been away from my computer on a short break.

mouser,

I'm wondering if the site can be altered in some way to enable printer friendly output from its pages, mainly the review pages.  The normal printout from the new graphics viewer review eg sits right over on the right hand edge of the page.

Regards,

Jeff

Living Room / Re: DonationCoder.com Mascot needed
« on: July 01, 2005, 09:11 PM »
I have always been impressed with the principles behind and the name and logo of the American Society for Quality progamme for schools, Koalaty Kids.  To my non American ears the US pronounciation of quality always sounded like koalaty.  I think it is a very clever name and a good mascot for this organisation.  Maybe we could dream up something similar.

Best Firewall / Re: Outpost and WinXP SP2

Scott, you should run a software firewall, not at any cost, but at the cost of some smarty pants people on a forum telling you you should run a software firewall at any cost.

I chose Smart Pix Manager over ACDSee because it was cheaper.  But I think ACDSee might be a more user friendly program.

ability to view thumbnails from more than one directory.

I have occasionally used Firehand Ember Free but I use Smart Pix Manager for more heavy duty use.

Every version of Outpost has given me BSODs.  I have plans to check back on it in the year 2018.

I am not running Outpost ATM but have used it with Win XP2.  My Outpost version is 402.

Is it practical for you to use another SMTP server for your outgoing mail?

General Software Discussion / Re: The Bat! sucks for IMAP

I've recently been trialling The Bat! 3.5 Pro and am not finding it too bad, although it seems to have an unnecessary delay when deleting an email and moving on to the next one.  Also the IMAP does not appear to support IDLE and I think this is a shortfall although workarounds can be done.

I'm not sure what you mean by "check before send" in Thunderbird.  Could you please elaborate a little more?

I like to suggest Font Managers. I been trying so hard to find one that can read unicode fonts, but no avail.

That's a good idea.

Thanks for that, Ssscortt

Thanks for the link, Mighty Pete.  It does look a really good screen saver.  Reminds me of the screensaver I often use - Organic Art by William Latham.  No longer available AFAIK.

I see what you mean by the preset not randomly changing.  I look forward to the application to this issue of the Einstein like programming genius from this forum.

I wa slightly amused to discover that the word email, spelt without the hyphen, is not in The Bat!'s spellchecker.

Ultra Recall would definitely be too complicated for someone who wants a simple note keeper.

Supports the following images AFAIK

gif jpg jpeg eps jig tga tif pct tiff wmf bmp emf dib rel.   Looks like png is missing, might be an issue.

Only problem is it is a bit expensive at $US99.  You may be able to use its customisable attributes facility to add your notes to images

I don't really know if it would meet your needs, but maybe try Ultra Recall from www.kinook.com

I've had some good experiences.  I bought a book/CD about Web Studio 2 for $US3 and sent $7 postage from the US to Australia.  It only cost the seller $5.90 for postage so they sent a US dollar and a dime over with the book.  The price for the book in a local book shop was $US45.
