The only regret I have about eBay is that someone always outbids me.  Eg last Saturday I was 11 mins away from my mobile phone at $AU425 and then they started.  It finished up going for $505, well over what I was prepared to pay.

Since I have been on Broadband since early March I find that my need for a download manager is a lot less.  The money I spent on Download Studio was possibly unnecessary but I haven't really explored it properly yet.

I just realised I made a silly error in the above post by stating that my interest in Download Studio was as a programmer.  I have been called many things but nobody in their right mind would call me a programmer.  What I meant was that my interest is as a paying customer.

Some forum members may be interested in the 50% discount for crossgrade to Conceiva Download Studio version 2.2 (a new version) here.

mouser, I have no commercial interest in this software other than as a programmer.  If this post is a problem (perhaps considered unsolicited advertising) please feel free to remove it.

I posted a link to mouser's review over at emaildiscussions.com which is a very appropriate forum for this type of discussion.

One member raised Mulberry as his favourite with special mention of it's IMAP capability.  Pine and Foxmail also got a mention.  Some forum members here might want to take a look some time.

No, it didn't bring back the crashing behaviour.  Appears to start quickly and work normally.

Thanks,

Best E-mail Client / Re: ASRT 5/14/05 - EMAIL CLIENT
« on: May 16, 2005, 11:47 PM »
FWIW I have been using Thunderbird at home.  However I like the web interface of my main provider, fastmail.fm which I use at work  The interface is quite powerful.

Best E-mail Client / Re: TheName!

Still, I will give TheBat! a look

I have to take that back.  Unless a serious discount comes through, there's no way I will or can pay this much for an email client:

35 Euro = 44.15600 US Dollar (The Bat! Home Edition)
45 Euro = 56.77200 US Dollar (The Bat! Pro Edition)

I can't believe that PocoMail itself is $40.  I paid $25 for it originally (don't know what the 3.0 upgrade cost, though).

This was my reaction too.  But I would pay $US15-20 (maybe stretch to 25) for something that gives me a better client than Thunderbird.

This just seems excessive to me.  Maybe I'm just out of the loop.  It seems as if TeraByte Unlimited is the only shareware author who hasn't gone insane with the prices lately.

On my setup it only takes 2-3 seconds to startup.  In fact, if I close it down and restart it, it takes less than 1 sec.

version 1.00.19 now up - jeffk can you test and see if it cures the problem?

I hereby declare it fixed.  Stand up and take a bow, mouser!

Thank you,

Don't stress yourself mouser.  I'm sure most members are very happy to have access to the reviews and other benefits of the site.  A few days or weeks wait won't hurt us.

mouser, I get the following message when I start up Screenshot Captor.

Access violation at address 00404C46 in module 'ScreenshotCaptor.exe'. Read of address 00000330.

After acknowledging the message it starts normally and appears to work OK.

Jibz, may i post your idea over at the email discussions forum.  www.emailaddresses.com/forum.  Some there may find it useful.

Yes certainly.  I might struggle a little time wise as my wife is away visiting her mother in hospital for some days.  And boy is the house a mess.

Thanks, db and mouser, for the effort you put into this app.  I'm sure it will have application beyond my sound issue.

I have been doing some research through midmapping software again.

Both the above posts raised my hope level!!

Yes I think she would get around custom notifications settings.  I have noticed though that as the firewall gives less "do I block/allow this notifications" she is less likely to turn it off.

Thank you mouser and fellow forum members.

That nircmd suggestion above does solve part of the problem.  When either me or my daughter logon for the first time the volume could be set accordingly.  It's only when we FUS that it would still be a problem - that would only be about 25% of the time.

General Software Discussion / Software for Mindmapping etc
« on: April 29, 2005, 04:44 PM »
I wonder if any forum members have any preference for Mindmapping or similar software.  I have bought the program Inspiration but would like something which is closer to the mindmapping paradigm.  It seems to me the bang per buck in the established packages such as Mindmanager, Mind Genius, Mindmapper, ConceptDraw etc is pretty low and they seem to be getting more expensive all the time.

I just spent the best part of a day at work trying to create a new way of looking at budgeting at work to help the number nuts understand the engineering.  I had to use Visio for the idea generation and mapping process so that the outpout could be shared with others.  Yuk.  I could have done the same thing with Excel in less than two hours.

Jeff

Regarding Kerio, the latest version (at least) lets you password protect its settings.  I wonder if the same feature also protects it from being shut down--have you checked?

Dear Scott, I have the current free version of Kerio.  The password protection is only available in the paid version and having already bought Outpost through the forum I'm reluctant to part with any further firewall cash.

mouser, thanks for your advice.  I'll have a look around the net and see what I can find.

Jeff
