General Software Discussion / Advice on manipulating a flat file
« on: September 15, 2015, 06:51 AM »
Hi,

I have been given the 'pleasure' of masking data in a text file that is 160MB in size with 1.25M records.  The format is (yes the delimiter is ¦¦):

SRCE_CUST_NO¦¦FIRST_NAME¦¦LAST_NAME¦¦ADDR_1¦¦ADDR_2¦¦ADDR_3¦¦ADDR_4¦¦ADDR_5¦¦ADDR_6¦¦ADDR_7¦¦POST_CDE¦¦DOB¦¦MARITAL_STA¦¦STAFF¦¦EMPLR_STA

Can anybody recommend the easiest way to mask\amend certain columns for all the records.  So for example I'd like to replace the FIRST_NAME, LAST_NAME and address columns with dummy data (preferably with sequential numbering but not essential)?

So it would end up like this:

SRCE_CUST_NO¦¦FIRST_NAME¦¦LAST_NAME¦¦ADDR_1¦¦ADDR_2¦¦ADDR_3¦¦ADDR_4¦¦ADDR_5¦¦ADDR_6¦¦ADDR_7¦¦POST_CDE¦¦DOB¦¦MARITAL_STA¦¦STAFF¦¦EMPLR_STA
12343¦¦F_NAME1¦¦LAST_NAME1¦¦Address 1¦¦Address 1¦¦Address 1¦¦Address 1¦¦Address 1¦¦Address 1¦¦Address 1¦¦P_CODE1,25/05/1967¦¦MARRIED¦¦NULL
12343¦¦F_NAME2¦¦LAST_NAME2¦¦Address 2¦¦Address 2¦¦Address 2¦¦Address 2¦¦Address 2¦¦Address 2¦¦Address 2¦¦P_CODE2,02/08/1998¦¦SINGLE¦¦NULL

I tried using Excel 2010 but it can only load 1048576 records.

Thanks

General Software Discussion / Re: sharepoint question
« on: May 12, 2015, 02:09 AM »
I asked a colleague of mine who works a lot with Sharepoint and this is what he has to say:

I have reviewed the post and I might recommend the workaround: creating a HTML page with the links, as you can see below:

Workaround: Create a simple HTML page with META REFRESH Tag and upload the HTML file to the document library

Both solutions, creating a content type link and creating the links and the HTML page implies manual work.

Screenshot Captor / Re: SUGGESTION: Maximum Screen Size
« on: April 10, 2015, 09:36 AM »
A few observations from brief testing. I am unsure if I will explain them well though!

(1) I maximised the standalone window but can't figure out how to re-size it! As it is set to be always on top, I can't see the other programs that are on the same monitor
(2) Can we have a toggle shortcut such as F11?
(3) While initially showing large images (with the screen maximised), I see a window or maybe it's a frame (sometimes with scrollbars) showing within the larger window, then it displays fine.
(4) After clicking an image in the newly maximised thumbnail panel, the screen briefly refreshes showing the Windows 7 default image for thumbnails and then shows the real thumbnails.  Is there a reason why the refresh happens in the first place?
When switching off the standalone window, it takes about 5 seconds on my system. Can the standalone window be removed before returning  to the normal view?

Thanks for the suggestion. In the end I created a folder with shortcuts to the folders\shares and the menu is dynamically created using a node type of 'Folder'.

56
I work with a lot of servers and I was going to create a menu with up 50 entries to various shares or folders across multiple servers.

Rather than doing this one by one, is there a way to dynamically create a menu based on say a text file something like this:

SHARE_NAME, SHARE_UNC
Share_Main, \\SERVER_X\Open
Share_Test, \\SERVER_Y\Test
Share_ITE, \\SERVER_Y\ITE

I seem to recall this type of functionality already exists but I can't find it.

Thanks

Hey Mouser, I am now getting this error each time I go to save but the file isn't set to read-only, any ideas?  My PC must have gremlins!

Thanks

My version of SSC is showing as v4.9.5 but the download page says the beta version is 4.9.4: https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=3474.0

I presume the download page needs to have the beta version updated.

Hi Mouser,

I got another crash this morning BUT it may be due to the fact the one of the MCF files it was trying to load was accidentally deleted. I have tried to reproduce this error (with the mcf file still missing) but no success. I attached a screenshot anyway.

Typically it's not asking me to backup today so I can't reproduce it at will!

I am running v1.144.02 but I wouldn't object to a debug version to see if we can identify the source of the problem(s).

Thanks

LaunchBar Commander / Some minor annoyances
« on: February 23, 2015, 02:32 AM »
Hi,

Each time I open the LBC preferences I get a message about recommending to do an occasional backup (sensible advice) but I would like to be able to disable this.

A second issue is if I make a change, close all the nodes, save and close preferences, then re-open the preferences, many of the nodes are expanded again.

A third issue is (but I can't reproduce at will), is sometimes when I click save, LBC will crash and I end up having to kill LBC from task-manager. The next time this happens I will capture the error message and post it.

[Edit] LBC crashed twice for me this morning and I have attached the message.

[Edit 2] LBC crashed again, I made some changes, click the save all button and then tried to close it and got a violation error - see second screenshot.

[Edit 3] Another crash but a different message and I have attached a screenshot.

I am using LBC on Windows 7 Enterprise SP 1.

First world issues, eh?

I too can confirm that flattening the objects makes the pasted image blurry.

LaunchBar Commander / How to run programs with elevated permissions?
« on: January 23, 2015, 05:47 AM »
Hi,

I am trying to create shortcuts to Powershell.exe and Powershell_ise.exe within LBC and to allow them to run as administrator under Windows 7 Enterprise.  Does anybody know how to achieve this?

Thanks

They first obtain a donor penis and strip all the cells from it with a detergent

I think I will 'hold' onto mine or should I say keep mine for another while.

66
I was holding off upgrading as it was too expensive but I went ahead with it after this further discount.

Thanks

Thanks for all your replies.

It turns out while I was researching the options, yesterday afternoon my mother in-law took my 14 year old daughter to the local electronics store and her advice? I quote "No offence Granny but Apple make iPads for simpletons and that would be great for you". Amazingly they are still talking.

My gut feeling is an iPad will be bought!

Living Room / Recommend a tablet
« on: October 28, 2014, 08:17 AM »
My mother in-law has asked me for help in purchasing a tablet for her (screen size of 10" to 12").  She isn't terrible technical (in fact she's dreadful) but what she wants is one that support a physical keyboard and a decent enough front camera.  I am not an Apple fan but the iPad springs to mind as I hear anyone can use them but they seem to be over priced.

I have an ASUS Transformer Prime TF700 but it runs dreadfully slow since one of the Kitkat updates. I resorted to flashing a custom ROM to addressing the issue but it left me with a negative opinion of ASUS.

A Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro could be a contender or possible a Microsoft Surface Pro (I have read another posting on the SP).

Any advice, ideas or suggestions?

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Linking to .msc console
« on: October 20, 2014, 03:16 AM »
I use Windows XP SP3. In my previous post I attached a screenshot showing how I configured event viewer, note you do need to specify 'eventvwr.msc' and not just 'eventvwr' .

I also have it working fine for control panel such as Add\Remove programs '%SystemDirectory%\appwiz.cpl'  For some commands I have had to use crude workarounds using the cmd prompt but while it launches what I need it leaves a command window open which I have to manually close - see screenshot for the set-up.

When it wasn't working I think I wasn't choosing a parent node. Thanks

LaunchBar Commander / How to copy\paste a node?
« on: October 13, 2014, 03:39 AM »
I have a node that I would like to copy, then paste and make a few amendments.  However, when I highlight a menu\node and click Ctrl-C (copy this Subtree to clipboard) and then Ctrl-V nothing happens.  Is there something I am doing wrong here?

On a humorous note, I did a spell check on my post and it suggests I replace 'Ctrl-V' with 'Truelove'  :-*.  See attachment.

EDIT: I don't know what I was doing wrong but I can now copy and paste :D

I like where this is going.  I don't use any tools other than Irfanview so it would be interesting to see what other people use and why.
