General Software Discussion / Re: Freeware = CRAP!
« on: July 24, 2013, 06:52 AM »
I too have to jump to the defense of Screenshot Captor.  I work in the Irish Financial Sector and I have being using it in work for years without any issue.  The software had to be 'vetted' before being allowed into our organisation.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Mouse over hints
« on: July 22, 2013, 02:11 AM »
Hi Mouser, no clicking a menu makes no difference. It's not meant to be!

MaxStacks idea is partly what I was trying to use my hints for.

Is this where you mean as it's already checked:

I have version 1.133.01 but none of my hints are showing.  Is there something I have accidentally disabled that is preventing the hints from displaying? Attached is an example of one of the nodes:

Screenshot Captor / Re: "Hands Holding" mask/frame combo...
« on: April 19, 2013, 05:57 AM »
Thanks cppm , you are correct, by moving the files into C:\Program Files\ScreenshotCaptor\Frames\Set 1 it worked.

However, using the handsholding2.png causes SSC to give this error: Access violation at address 00724360 in module 'ScreenshotCaptor.exe'. Read of address 00000000.

It is quite a cool frame and fair play to Kunkel321 for creating and sharing it.

I did re-scan and I can see the frames but just not apply them.

So what am I doing wrong?  I have three versions of the hands in my MyFrames folder:

C:\Program Files\ScreenshotCaptor\MyFrames\handsholding2.png.mask
C:\Program Files\ScreenshotCaptor\MyFrames\handsholding2.png
C:\Program Files\ScreenshotCaptor\MyFrames\KunkelHands.png
C:\Program Files\ScreenshotCaptor\MyFrames\KunkelHands.png.mask
C:\Program Files\ScreenshotCaptor\MyFrames\Handsholding.png
C:\Program Files\ScreenshotCaptor\MyFrames\handsholding.png.mask

I can see the images in the MyFrames folder but none of them will apply to my active screenshotm in fact nothing happens.  However, any of the default frames that come with SSC in the other folders work fine.

Screenshot Captor / Re: 4.02 beta is up
« on: April 16, 2013, 07:30 AM »
This is probably unrelated to 4.02 but if click Show Quick-Capture bar, then click 'Display Screenshot Capture options for quick capture bar' and click the cancel button without doing anything, the controls on the bar are removed, then it is left blank for about 2 seconds and then the controls are refreshed.

I read your advice but it went in one ear and out the other - sorry!  I have made the change and it works grand.

Using capture active window (with the window maximised) on monitor 1, it stills captures a few extra pixels on the right but it doesn't bother as I can crop it.

If I leave SSC open and active on one monitor and capture a screen from the other monitor, SSC gets minimised for a very short period of time and then gets restored to its previous state - I can live with that.

Sorry for the confusion  :-[

I have SSC configured to minimise after a capture. However, if I already have SSC open and I capture another screenshot, I thought it would remain open but instead it gets minimised.

So for instance, on monitor 1 I have SSC open and I take a screen shot on monitor 2, the screen is captured but SSC is minimised (note I can't confirm this for certain as I only have dual monitor in work and not at home where I am writing this).

I did some testing and I have the active windows on both monitors set to maximum and both monitors have the same resolution of 1280x1024

With Shift Print Screen set to grab active window ().  The results are:

Monitor number 1 captured an image size of 1288 x 1004 (and it had a little from the right monitor) and this monitor has the start bar but it is grabbing an extra 8 pixels.
Monitor number 2 captured an image size of 1280 x 1024 (and it had a little from the right monitor)

With Alt Print Screen set to grab current screen, the results are:

Monitor number 1 captured an image size of 1280 x 1024 with no excess for the right monitor
Monitor number 2 captured an image size of 1280 x 1024 (and it had a little from the right monitor)

Another observation: If I leave SSC open, it minimises (I have it set to minimise after capture) but I would have liked to see it stay open.

I just tried a screen capture on my second monitor and I noticed that on the left hand side there are around 7 pixels from the first monitor.  Similarly if I capture the first monitor it has a few pixels from the left screen.

Maybe this is a limitation of multi-monitor setups and is already a know issue (this is using version SSC 4.0 RC)?

114
I think Screenshot Captor has earned it's stripes and deserves a promotion to version 4.0.

115
The ability to capture from a webcam is another nice addition to SSC

I tried to "test" it (without having a webcam attached) and when I clicked the Capture Image button, I got this message:

"There is no image to save.
Why not take a screenshot or create a blank new file before you try saving anything?"

LaunchBar Commander / Trojan (false positive?)
« on: March 06, 2013, 08:18 AM »
Hi Mouser,

All of a sudden McAfee is saying the C:\Program Files\LaunchBarCommander\Tools\Nircmd\nircmd.exe (it has a modified date of 26/05/2009) is a trojan - see attachment.

Virus.png

Is this a false positive?  The McAfee version number is 4.5.0.1852 and I believe the definition file was updated today.

Hey Mouser, here is a screenshot of SSC as requested. My PC is output onto my TV at 1920 x 1080 in Landscape mode (running on Windows7 64bit home edition).

118
In the Add Caption to Picture screen:
The text on all of the controls relating to colour/color are truncated.
Everything in the Border Options control are truncated.
'Caption Font Size' is truncated

The previous bug of adding a caption and then performing a vertical splice still leaves the caption full sized.
Undoing the changes leaves the image a bit messed up

The 'Autofit' caption at the top right of the screen is 'squashed' (all the words run into each other).
The 'Clear All Painting' button (at least I think that's what it says) has truncated text

I see a pattern here on the text truncation, maybe it is my PC?

Using the latest beta (3.19.01) I have noticed the following:

Major bug (for me):
(1) The latest version stopped copying the captured image to clipboard. However, I discovered a change in Post-Capture options but switching on 'Copy to Clipboard: File itself', makes no difference. When I manually copy the image from SSC it truncates the image horizontally and vertically!

UPDATE - I had the wrong setting for 'Copy to Clipboard:' I should have set it to 'Image bitmap' to copy the image to the clipboard

Other minor bugs:
(1) While I like the added controls on the Add Caption screen, some of the controls are over lapping.
(2) Using the undo function doesn't correctly undo the newly added captions
(3) After adding a caption, try splice out a vertical selection on the entire image and the newly added caption remains the same size (i.e. doesn't get spliced)

I see though the issue with the Quick bar reappearing after logging back onto Windows (after previously closing the Quickbar) has been resolved :)

I just downloaded the latest beta v3.18.01 and I closed the Quickbar (it's not for me) but after logging off and back on the toolbar reappeared (I have Screenshot auto-load with Windows).  I then logged off again and back on and the same thing happened.

121
I just downloaded the latest version and it's great to see you continually improve SSC.

A few minor issues:

1. The Welcome Help page says version 3.15.1 but I guess it should be 3.16.1?
2. If you add a caption and then undo it, you have to press Ctrl Z twice, first to remove the caption, then second to remove the white area beneath the caption
3. The same goes for other undos, such as try using Edit->Crop with border effects. Maybe this is intentional to allow selection undo's of the various steps to achieve the cropping?
4. After starting SSC, I tested the Caption functionality and added a caption. However after adding the caption, the selected area isn't the full image. It seems to to be the selecting what would have been the size of the original image. A second capture and the selected area resembled the area of my first capture...  Sorry if I am not explaining it correctly.

If I get a chance I will continue testing and report back.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Screenshot Captor caption feature
« on: February 21, 2013, 05:39 AM »
When I add a caption on top, some white space is added below the caption, if at the botton the space is added on top of the caption.

If I press Ctrl Z once, it seems to remove the extra space.

123
I have downloaded the beta and will report back.  I just tried the captions and they look good so far.

Living Room / A laptop for $600-$700
« on: December 08, 2012, 10:14 AM »
Hi,

I am living in Ireland but a friend of mine is coming home from the States in two weeks and he has been 'volunteered' to bring home a laptop for me  :D  I am looking to buy a laptop with the following specifications:

Intel i5 (gen 3) processor, 15.6" screen, 6GB+ RAM, 500+GB hard-drive and preferably a separate graphics card but would settle for an Intel HD Graphics 4000 and within the price range of $600-$700.

Would you have any recommendations of what and where to buy?  For those of you who have tried Windows 8 is it worth going for or to stick with good old Windows 7?

Do you know if Dell laptops bought in USA can be fixed under warranty here?

Many thanks

Damian

I have downloaded the beta versions and I'll let you know how I get on.  However, I currently don't have any need of the video functionality but it sounds good.
