It probably doesn't fulfill all of your wishes, but AM-Notebook is a pretty good note taker, info management tool, which saves notes as files in folder structures. Free version available.

Find And Run Robot / Re: FARR 2.88.01 beta - testing requested
« on: August 17, 2010, 02:30 PM »
It's instant FARR now :) Haven't used FARR extensively after installing this, but no unexpected behaviour so far.

Why not make suggestions in the URL Snooper forum? Maybe you could get your tweaks and specializations added to it... :)

Oh, and welcome to DC!

104
Excellent! Thank you for providing such fast and good service (even in a forum not really related to your company ;) )!

We have Build 50 with further improvements to Firefox launching. Linkman is now able to launch into existing tab/new tab/new window, without touching prefs.js at all (browser.link.open_external etc).

-Outertech Support (May 11, 2010, 02:20 AM)
Nice!  Thanks for the fix.  I can confirm that it's working very well.
Confirmation from me as well! Thank you, thank you! Btw, just purchased the Pro version ;)

I have a question regarding the folders in Linkman. Is it possible to automatically move bookmarks to folders, based on criteria such as URLs and keywords? My link collection is a mess and eventually I'd like to clean it up. Some sort of auto-cleaning would be very nice.

thanks

That's extraordinary! I had no idea about this.

I wonder how many images of butts they find on average... :o

Please Mouser, can we have a way to integrate FARR and CHS?

(Cross link to previous threads asking similar things)
Oh yes, please!  :-*

I've used ArsClip for years.  http://www.joejoesoft.com/cms/showpage.php?cid=97
I used and can recommend ArsClip as well. However these days I prefer DC's own Clipboard Help+Spell:
Deluxe Clipboard Utility that automatically saves a history of text items copied to the clipboard, with tons of configurable options, super easy search, favorites storage, super powerful text modification dialog with preview window.

-please try again, tomos! I think you may have clicked another line, the first time, because I cannot replicate this, with Office 2010; it will not accept the code.
I bet they didn't have the restriction in place at the check-out at first, but then changed it since tomos first tried.

There is an old windows tech called DDE. It was used a lot with Windows 95. Applications can communicate with DDE. Unfortunately DDE is slow and has also some limitations, e.g. the data length (e.g. a URL path) is limited to 255 chars. The Netscape browser has supported DDE. When Mozilla and Firefox 1.0 came to life from the Netscape codebase the DDE support was still there. You could send a URL to the active firefox window using DDE. With the convertion from version 2.0 to 3.0 the DDE implementation in Firefox became very buggy and unreliable. This is the reason why many URL managers had trouble implementing Firefox 3 support. Since DDE is an outdated technology that remains with Windows only for compatibility reasons, nobody at Mozilla has the motivation to fix the DDE problems.

So the Linkman feature of opening in current Firefox tab isn't actually a Linkman feature? Too bad, but no deal breaker ;)

112
I like Gothi[c]'s suggestion!

Apart from that, and the lack of Angelina still shots, I don't really see anything that needs much work on DC. I guess I'd like to see a few more reviews/mini-reviews, but it's not like I can't write these myself... :-[

113
That user would be me!  Yes, I still haven't fixed this on my home computer.  It was working fine until I had to do a clean reinstall of Firefox.  Now I can't get it to work.  Maybe I'll try rebooting also, since I haven't rebooted in a month or so.
You might want to look at browser.link.open_newwindow in about:config

114
Hmmm... not sure I'm understanding this correctly. I was under the impression that Linkman could launch URLs in existing tab even if other external links launches in new tabs, which is what I would like. I remember Opere worked like this with Linkman. I already had this working when all external links would open in existing tab, but I'd rather not keep doing that, only for Linkman.

Did I misunderstand something?

115
<b>Firefox can now be configured to launch links into existing tabs.</b> (Tools | Settings | Launch URLs)
-Outertech Support (March 08, 2010, 11:35 PM)
I can't get this to work... I've got this setting in Linkman Lite 7.9.0.30 but launching URLs always opens a new tab in Firefox (3.6.3). Is there some special setting in Firefox I need to change? I've tried several options in the about:config configuration (the ones you get when searching for 'browser.link') but to no avail. Any help much appreciated!

Nice find! I might start using this :)

Hey Tuck, I don't mean to offend anyone here rly and actually I donated to the site back quite a while ago.
-lotusrootstarch (April 17, 2010, 11:44 PM)
No offence taken ;) But I guess I see it quite differently than you do. I really don't see any kind of "DC decline", unless perhaps one thinks of DC as "just" the home of mouser's software and the fact that there are no new programs coming from mouser recently, but instead bug fixes and and added features. I think of DC as something more, though, even if I was originally drawn here by FARR and ScreenshotCaptor IIRC. Now, it's more of a place to have friendly discussions, advice etc. mostly concerning software. And again, I don't see the decline that you do.

Btw, I do agree that you don't necessarily need to provide any statistical evidence, the "feeling" you refer to is also an indicator, but I feel differently from you ;)

118
BUUUMP, latest version off of DCUpdater works fine with my crazy Norwegian characters, æ, ø, å, etc... however the version in the first post in this thread, doesn't work, so I suggest you update it, lanux ;)

Otherwise, thanks for a wonderful alias. I'm hopeful that something similar for Facebook status will be possible eventually. They've released their API, so maybe...

119
Hmm, have u guys got the feeling that NANY is becoming a yearly drill and to the majority of event participants there is no enthusiasm there?

This is probably an small indication of a bigger problem... that DC is on the decline (in terms of readership, participation and external press) and people are losing curiosity, interest and sense of attachment (for some) that they used to have.

Wakey wakey guys.
-lotusrootstarch (April 16, 2010, 05:56 AM)
Interesting, I'd like to see the statistical evidence you surely must have to support your claims :tellme:

120
No thanks on any nch software.
Made that mistake once, that was enough to remember to stay away.
Really? What's wrong with it, I thought it looks quite interesting, tbh. Quietly following this thread, as I'm looking for the same thing, preferably without paying the world for it.

I own something called something like Womble video editor, but I'm not exactly loving it, even if it kinda gets the job done...

The only issue I have with AM-Notebook is that I don't think you can attach files to notes. Otherwise it would be good in my books. I have quite a few documents in various formats that need to be attachable and viewable. That is why I want files individually stored so I do not lose everything if a database corrupts.
You can attach files within the notes, if that's what you mean. They won't be viewable, but they'll basically function as links to the files (and thus open in default program for that file type). Ctrl+F7 (or right click and select "Add link to other note"). It's not that obvious, though, since I take it you expect it to only be able to add link to another AM-Notebook note. However, you can select "All Files" in the Open dialog, instead of just Notes, and then you can add your .doc, .pdf or whatever.

I use and love VirtuaWin! Not all the features of Dexpot, but still has plenty of features and for me it works better than Dexpot. Extendable through modules. Free and Open Source.

- or what do you do to keep your plugins updated??
 :tellme:
Didn't know I had to  :-[ The thought's never even crossed my mind, to be honest. Stuff either works or it's not installed yet. But the procedure you describe certainly does sound rather stupid.
