Add Names To DVD DrivesIf you have got multiple DVD drives installed on your computer system or are making use of virtual DVD drives you might have noticed that they do not come with proper names.. Some solutions are floating around on the Internet that involve Registry editing which is something that most inexperienced users do not want to do. A far better solution is a small program called Drive Namer which has been requested and completed at the Donation Coder forum a long time ago.

Dr. Windows Fake Windows Error Messages Tool - Perfect for April Fools JokesThere aren't many occasions when I can honestly recommending using the Dr.Windows practical joke program I first released in 2005. But April Fool's day is one of them. The basic idea of this program is that it sits in the system tray of your victim and can be configured to occasionally and randomly pop up humorous or non-sensical error messages that look exactly like normal windows error messages, except for the content: Free Download from Web Page Here Now keep in mind this is just a bit of harmless fun, and the program won't make any real attempt to hide itself from your victim -- it's icon is shown down in the tray after all -- we wouldn't want to really freak someone out now would we? Because of the fear this year about the conficker virus, i strongly recommend that you remain present while your "friend" discovers this little prank, just to make sure that they don't think it's a virus and freak out.

The Dice Tower - Top 100 Board Games Ranked with Video ReviewsToday i once again got sucked into the black hole of time dilation while learning about and reading reviews on board games. I don't even really enjoy playing games much but these damn reviews and learning about all the wonderful creativity and variety in these games is addictive.. But any, the main point of this post is to tell you about this one wonderful video review site called The Dice Tower, and the top 100 ranked list of board games with accompanying video reviews. The guy who runs the site, Tom Vasel, has a cute daughter who normally sits with him as he does the reviews, and he does a great job of telling you why he likes the games. And his taste in games is a good match for me -- he doesn't go for the super complex games, and he is always looking for fun stuff, regardless of the genre. Great work Tom. http://www.thediceto...er/index.php/top_100

Newsletter for March 29th, 2009 - Codename "Last Call"Greetings all! As I write this, it's Sunday night, March 29th, and we are approaching the final days and hours of the 4th Anniversary fundraiser for the DonationCoder.com website.
So this newsletter is my last chance to reach you before the site returns to normal for another couple of years.. And this is your last chance to be part of something special. March's fundraiser has been a great success in many ways -- all of us on the forum have enjoyed watching the thermometer banner as it has inched upward. We passed our initial goal of raising $8,000 raised around mid-month, which was a wonderful thing. Contributions slowed down after that and we are just about at $10,000 raised at the time that this newsletter goes out. We're still holding out hope of reaching our ultimate $12,000 goal. While it seems unlikely, a majority of the donations so far have some from repeat donators.. The best possible thing that could happen now would be if in the final hours we saw a flood of new people taking the plunge and becoming supporting members, inspired by this latest newsletter. ... Lastly, let me make a very important request that is completely independent from our request for financial donations. We've just posted our first ever DonationCoder.com survey and we're dying to have a lot of people participate. |

Using noscript to force https ssl links in firefoxI was talking to a friend the other day about accessing donationcoder or other sites using SSL (https urls), and how many have a problem where they support ssl but some of the links on the site itself will redirect you to normal http links inadvertently, leading you back to non-secure connection. It turns out that there are a couple of firefox extensions that can be used to force firefox to always use an https style ssl link on certain websites. That is, it will dynamic adjust all http links to be https (or vice versa) on sites you specify. The easiest solution is to use the very powerful, actively developed, donation supported "noscript" extension. People who are paranoid about about security tend to already have noscript installed so chances are if you care about forcing https you might already have noscript installed, and just not know about this feature. For more instructions on how to configure noscript to force https, see for example this page. |
