The addon works for me, yay, thanks for the tips lanux!
you're welcome, Wordzilla.. does this mean you won't be adding this feature to Zillarank? :-\

No, i might add this feature to our forum search.  :)

Well, at this moment I don't see enough demand for it, and consider Google's similar feature doesn't work well (at least for me), I'm not sure how to do it best.

(Google's "open in new window" option reuses existing tab/window to display results - now if I have 30 tabs in firefox how do I easily locate that ONE search tab? :P)

I want to say that after using this for a while, this tiny little firefox addon is one of my favorites, and i consider it an absolute essential addon.  Perfect for when you want results of a form submission to open on a new tab.

A must have extension.

This is one of my favorite extensions.. and it's not been updated for FireFox 3.6 yet  :(
Any FF hackers willing to update it?

You could add this Boolean value to 'about:config' and set it to false.

extensions.checkCompatibility

Skipping any compatibility checks for all add-ons.
I would not use it for anything and everything though, just if you really want to see if it will let an add-on that is really special work, one at a time.

If it's set to true the add-on will be disabled.
If you click the compatibility warning to check in the add-on console, this value will be deleted from about:config. I just toggle it as needed.

Yup. Fair comment, but I'm stuck in my ways! I just can't be bothered to learn how to do it all in FF, not that it would be so difficult... Sigh, colour me LAZY!

I did MaxThon for awhile and recommend it to those who use IE and want customization.  What scared me off though is the BHO possibility. I got burned once by an IE BHO and I don't like having that hook hanging there.  When I can uninstall IE then I do.  If I can't, I take other measures to auto kill it if it rears its ugly head.

For those that like IE though, there are a ton of cool plug-ins, addons, whatever you want to call them, for MaxThon.

Heh, heh - jumped ship to Fx not long after I posted that. I recently returned to a vanilla install of IE8, though, because I got fed up of Fx's habit of crashing explorer.exe repeatedly in Windows 7 64 bit. I've not been near Maxthon since 2007...

Miles and Darwin, are you sure you dont mean to be posting on this thread?
The current one is about a specific plugin.

since the original add-on isn't updated yet. here is a workaround, install this add-on, which displays the context menu on form elements such as buttons and drop-down boxes. now one can right-click on the submit button and access the 'Submit to New Tab' menu.

this has been confirmed in the mozilla page.
context menus on form elements...For firefox 3!

This extension restores 'SubmitToTab' extension's menu items(Submit to New Window/Submit to New Tab) in the context menu on form buttons.
A very welcome extension for Firefox 3 and those extensions users.

extensions.checkCompatibility

Looks like for FF 3.6:

  extensions.checkCompatibility.3.6

might work better.

See:

  http://kb.mozillazine.org/Extensions.checkCompatibility

But FWIW, I didn't get SubmitToTab working -- though I see that right-clicking does bring up a context menu with FormControlContextMenu installed.

i've been suffering without this addon until today!

Lanux128 informed me that Hendrik Lipka released an unofficial new version that works on FF 3.6!  Just tested it and it works great.

See the link in Hendrik's post on this page:
https://addons.mozil...US/firefox/addon/483

[this addon is super useful for sites with search buttons for example, like DonationCoder; just hold ctrl button while clicking submit button and results open in new tab]

Bravo Hendrik!   :greenclp:

Must have been a bad add-on, Darwin. I've never had Firefox crash explorer.exe (he says while running Firefox 3.6.4 beta with 45 extensions on Windows 7 64-bit).

You're a lucky man, Innuendo! I reverted back to IE8 because when researching what was going on with Fx and Win 7 I determined that this is a known issue betwist and between the two... IE8 is a sod, too, though...  >:(

PS part of my troubleshooting included winnowing out all unnecessary add-ons and then turning off all that remained and adding them back in again. Didn't seem to make much difference what add-ones I was running  :(

Heh, heh, nice one sri. It's not the look though it's the plugin support and support of groups in Maxthon that keep me here. I have a set up 5 pages that open up with Maxthon - can't live without that. And I love Roboform, which rules out Opera altogether.

If you haven't already discovered Morning Coffee, I think it should something similar to what you are looking for.

Cloq - I just polished off an 8 cup POT of coffee (and I still feel like I'm trying to view the world with olive oil coating my eyeballs. Hmm... correlated, perhaps?!)  :P

I'm off to take a look at Morning Coffee now...

Morning Coffee seems to have some bugs, the "only on certain weekdays" functionality does not actually work for me.

Ah... I did start using Firefox instead of Maxthon a year or two ago and discovered how to setup the equivalent of Maxthon's Groups feature within it (without every having heard of the Morning Coffee plugin). I've since ditched Fx in favour of IE8 and use the Favorites bar for the same purpose. Both IE8 and Fx support setting groups of pages as my start page, but I've long since stopped using the feature.

Haven't looked at Maxthon in at least two years. Loved it when I was running IE6 and XP but no longer see the point under IE8 and Win7 (though I still miss its mouse gestures feature, which was superior to any of the Fx plug-ins I tried). *Might* revisit Maxthon for that alone... or not!

NECRO THREAD ALERT

with the advent of firefox 4, this addon has once again been rendered obsolete. however due to the existence of a previous mod by Hendrik Lipka, a mere version string edit is possible to make this addon functional again. :D

click the link below to get this modified solution..
https://www.donation...26191.0;attach=56832

Note: the addon is zipped due to forum attachments' restriction.

Heh, heh - thanks lanux128, for necromancing this thread. Completely off-topic, but as a result of your post, I re-read my last post here (from a year ago) and noted my comment about Maxthon and possibly trying it again. I didn't wind up doing anything in the intervening 11 months or so... until this morning.

I installed Maxthon 3 and found it to be pretty slick - it still has those glorious mouse gestures. However, I have IE9 tweaked to perfection and uninstalled Maxthon after giving it a whirl... As much as I like the mouse gestures, I've learned to live without them in the last three years. None of Fx's mouse gesture add-ons come close to the Maxthon feature and I've not found a Windows application to replicate them system wide, either. C'est la vie...
