Need a mass email program
« on: August 11, 2007, 09:34 PM »
I am looking for an email program to send out monthly newsletters.    Not spam- I have a website-  supportcoordinators.com and want to send out newsletters to other support coordinators.

We need a program that is EASY to use-  I am bad with computers.. And can do the following

- Be able to add email addresses, and the program will detect or delete duplicates

-  Create nice looking emails- colors, fonts, links, etc.  Or be able to copy what we make into the email program

-  Avoid getting my email address turned off!!  Not appear as spam.

-  Be able to keep track of a list of up to 5,000 emails

- Be able to send emails to over 1000 people at a time.

-

thanks!!  By the way- I love what you guys do.. and wrote about you on my website under "Useful".

Check out eAnnouncer - I use it to send out missives to my undergraduate students and it works very well.

I'm looking at it...  But I have no idea how to use outlook.  I have computer skills of a 3rd grader.
I'm going to look more at the screen shots to see if it's something I can figure out.

Thanks!!

Anything that bypasses outlook??  I know how to use WORD!!

Ah... there is an alternative program that will let you send e-mail using any client (such as Outlook Express, Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.) but I've entirely forgotten its name!

Sorry, I tend to forget that that whole world doesn't use Outlook as I do...  :-[

I'll give some thought to the other app and see if I can find out what it's called and report back.

Um... Still can't remember the other app that I was thinking of, but I note that Auto Mailer is linked to from eAnnouncer's home page for those visitors who do not use Outlook. Looks to be from the same developer...

A quick check unearthed MailEnable, a paidware tool, which also has a freeware for personal use version. Check it out to see if it fits you.

(Today I'm using the url tags quite a bit :D)

Try fairlogic WorldCast - free for non-commercial use.  I have used the commercial version to send out HTML newsletters with custom merge fields.  It is easy to use, but I did encounter a compatibility issue with IE7.  They just released an update, which may resolve it.

In the interim, I switched to infacta GroupMail 5.  They also have a free edition which limits sending to 100 at a time.

Checked it out, but it was only for non-commercial use. Not sure how many people need that kind of software for non-commerical use...

Mouser and I had a similar conversation over mail recently. He recommended phplist. I was looking at companies like aweber that provide their own servers to send mails.

phplist looks great. The problem with installing software like this on your server is that the server may be blacklisted, and then most of your messages will never reach your audience (without you knowing!).
Since I'm hosted in a off-the-mill dreamhost account, chances of having a neighbor spamming the hell out of people in my same server are high. Worse, it might be that if anyone at dreamhost has spammed ever, dreamhost is blacklisted.

I think that's the point the companies who sell services make. Of course, I don't have stats on how many messages would be lost (not sure if they do!).

In your case, ig you 'own' your own server, and can be pretty sure it's not blacklisted, they you can just install a program like these. If you are on a shared server, then all bets are off!

My 2c.

Hey, thanks to everyone who responded..  I ended up using IContact
It's working out really good for me.  The only bummer is the monthly fee..  So I will look at the others you all have suggested.  Sorry- I haven't been back here for a while, and didn't get any email response to let me know I got posts back.

One thing about Icontact-  Only about 28 percent of people are opening my emails.. And these are highly targeted lists...  Very useful newsletters to the people that get them.  Do you think they are going to people's spam box due to the server?  Maybe it would be better to use something else..  When I have some time, I will check into this more.
