Hello,

on http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/ you can get a software product for 24 hours for free. You have to install and activate it (online) within 24 hours and of course there is no support or free upgrades to future versions.

Today the offer the filemanager "Frigate 3" www.frigate3.com for free.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I did have a quick look at it. There are some limitations in this free version, some quite annoying like the lack of directory synchro. I installed it on several PC. On two of them I had a serious error at first launch, saying some dll was missing, and also a memory protection error on one of them. On second run it finally launched OK.

Anyway, as I said, for a free product, it's still interesting looking at it.

I've been going to the site daily ever since I first read your post about two weeks back. I also have gotten every daily release there in that time. Only one program(a screen-saver) that I downloaded from them gave me a problem. Everything else works great.
There are no "hidden catches" and the software is good quality but sometimes has a suppressed feature. All of the suppressed features in the software products are very minor ones, ones which I sure do not miss.
The known "catch" is that the software has to be downloaded, installed & registered within their given time period. The time period to accomplish this is always 24 hours and they say sometimes more, but I have only seen 24 hours allocated thus far.
The only downside to this approach is, if I re-install my OS I think I will most likely lose my registration to all the software I have gotten from them.

Five days ago, I finally registered there. I have received only one email from them since, a confirmation email. Along with that email they sent me a super duper bonus link http://game.giveawayoftheday.com

The games are similar to BigFish/PopCap Games in type and quality.

I wonder if they will run Monday's History Explorer offer again. I, for one, never got the chance to get it. "This giveaway is not available any more" - hopefully they don't mean it too literally!

Also, I am a little mad at myself. I won DC's previous drawing, and was given the choice between a lifetime license for USB Safely Remove or 1 year's license for Zentimo. I clicked 'Zentimo', but today Zentimo is free for everybody, and I wish I had clicked a lifetime license for the other one instead. Zentimo is overkill.

Well, don't worry feel too bad, Curt. The giveaway does NOT include an update to 1.1, which is due out next and which apparently fixes some issues in Vista and Windows 7:

the native Windows Safely Remove feature cannot stop device and spine down the hard drive with power off in Windows Vista and 7. We’ve resolved that problem in Zentimo 1.1 final. At this moment Zentimo can switch hard drive power off and spin it down after its safely remove in Windows Vista and 7. I hope we will released Zentimo 1.1 final next week.

For myself, I purhcased a lifetime license for USB Safely Remove a long time ago and love it I have Zentimo activated, installed, and running and I can see things that I like about it. A lot (displays a lot of useful info about my USB devices for a start). I have the option of a very chea upgrade with two years updates to Zentimo from USB Safely Remove and simply can't decide if I really need any of the extra functionality. Time will tell - I need more free time to explore the differences/additional features. That'll have to wait until this evening or tomorrow.
