As a fan of Total Commander, I collect these ones.
It's in Chinese, but the software name and the screenshot is OK.

Hands down winner IMO: Directory Opus 8

Nothing compares! This is a VERY powerful tool with so many feautures it boggles the mind. Probably more expensive than most of the others, but worth every cent for me.

His list is up to 56 now, last updated in mid December.  Instead of creating the list here, does anyone see any explorer replacements worth noting that are NOT on his list yet?

@vegas: Yes.

File Matrix (http://www.gardenero...filematrix/index.htm). Can be configured to make you look like a REAL geek, see http://thedailywtf.c...nter_the_Matrix.aspx.

And Emacs.

Unfortunately, I'm not geeky enough for either one.

Thanks to alxwz, I added File Matrix in my list.
Emacs is not a pure file manager, so no Emacs.
 ( I use VIM. )

Actually, I can't remember why I wrote "Emacs". Probably because some people use it for everything  :)

But here are two more NC-clones:
Midnight Commander (Windows port)

Very nice list! So many beans to munch, so little time..

Very powerful piece of software.
