2 small bugs detected

bug #1
run application, enter any text, have the limit set that something is red
change now colors, they will only apply if you change text or limit

bug #2
program is not able to be run within protected folders
run from such application will crash before it has started
please use %appdata% to save configuration

wish:
add password generator please ;)
if able, add dark-theme support

else:
program rock!

add password generator please

Why would you need that to write a text? There are already roughly 1 million password generators (or more), rich and poor, why try to add one where (nearly) nobody needs one?

This should be a nice, single purpose tool, please don't add bloatware to it.

I am sorry if you do not like my request. Do not think I am too dumb to program and use my own tool for that matter. In my humble opinion a program that limit text to a speficific character amount is made for such matter.

Please don't get me wrong, I've not tried to suggest even anything near that, sorry if you think I did

In my humble opinion a program that limit text to a speficific character amount is made for such matter.
Please elaborate, as I do not see any relation between a tool to gather text to be posted in a web form (as initially requested) and a password generator.
Any decent password generator tool has a setting for the length of the password(s), so using this tool to provide a password of a specific length feels counter-intuitive.

Hey KodeZwerg,
he's just giving his opinion -- you're allowed to have yours -- or change it if you want. But don't leave the thread because of it !

(also, please ignore this if you want  :-[ )

...all text you and me wrote...
i am sorry, i did understood things wrong and reacted overheated. a good guy helped fixing that!

now i tell you why i wanted that feature:
i do use a widget that contain nice apps i regular use. that limitpad is a nice app i wanted to integrate. also i often need random password. his program would have melted two things i regulary need together.

i please you to not try convince me with our opinion, i felt like i was in a confrontation, my spelling skills are not that good to express myself better.

i do understand your opinion. and you are right. there are zillion of programs out there that can generate passwords.
please understand also mine. my widget also has limits, where i am always looking for quality applications that combine more than one feature.

lets be cool again, that is my wish.

(...i hope that was somehow okay...)

@vic, no need to implement my wish anymore. i recreated my project (formerly deleted my project after seeing yours). it fit perfect to my needs and no user-request is harmed since it is my own thing now :-]
soon i make it public within my realm downloads.
my changes in short:
only react to used characters, no colors can be choosen, dark and light theme, pw-generator
maybe i add a "split-to-fit" feature, so one main edit can be filled with as much text as you like, pressing a button would generate several sub-edits that hold text to match the limit.

have a nice day!

Great job, Vic! I have yet to fully test it, but here are some initial thoughts:

  • Set a low char limit (4), type a few words, and switch between chars and words - the visuals don't update.
  • Option to remove double spaces.
  • Add a (+) tab for easily creating new one.
  • Double click on "Pad 1" to rename.
  • In status bar, show how much over/under the limit (+53; -4).
  • Include increase/decrease text size (it's a little too small as it is now).
  • I don't understand prev/post - am I missing something here?

Prev = pick a color for "legit" text, all text that did not cross the limit
Post = pick a color for text that exceed the limit.

Thanks! That wasn't very intuitive, I must say.
How about adding "Color:" before and changing the labels to TEXT/OVER or TEXT/EXCESS?

...but come to think of it, it might make sense to rethink how these settings are presented in the UI (see feature request above for "text size"), maybe creating a "Settings" pane, where to add any other future settings? Just an idea.

And to you as well K! Yep, saw you implemented password generation already. Good on you :)

Many thanks for the link-back!! Keep on rocking!!!

Great job, Vic! I have yet to fully test it, but here are some initial thoughts:

Thanks V! Limitpad v0.2.0 is coming with May later batches of releases :)

Feel free to suggest/request; the utmost goal is to make users' wishes a reality through these implementation services

Cheers!

@KodeZwerg, I think this is excellent.

Could it be made Twitter-thread-generation-friendly? That would be very good!

In other words:

- set 280 characters, and type until text goes red
- delete characters to within 280 limit at a sensible point
- make a break to the next tweet in the thread (three dashes on a new line, or something)
- start typing the next tweet in the thread
- rinse and repeat until end of thread is reached.

Something like...

aaaaaaaaaaa [goes red at 281]

---

bbbbbbbbbb [goes red at 281]

---

etc...

I am so sorry for the error in the last reply. It should have been Vic I was thanking, though KodeZwerg is a fine member of the community too! Please accept my apologies!

@v, you are welcome bro.
@o, if you mean my 'split-to-fit' suggestion, you might take a look on my own project (textlimit) and add that as a request if you like my way of doing things. (I am still a bit confused, so i stop request things within a user-made-request, i do not wish to violate any rules)

Please accept my apologies!

No worries whatsoever! I subscribe to the thinking we're all sharing the same "substance" at the quantum level :)

(Everything is one thing) One more reason to be living in unity, harmony, Joy and love

Could it be made Twitter-thread-generation-friendly

Request taken :) There is a new version of Limitpad coming-in, do feel free to reveal in words the features you see in your imagination

Hello again! I can retake development of my implementation if it's helpful for you. What feature do you have in mind?

Cheers!

Great! I remember there was going to be an update based on the feedback from the initial release. I know I, and others, made comments about small bugs and/or tweaks/features, all of them here in this thread, and I was under the impression you were going to provide an update.  :)

I was under the impression you were going to provide an update.  :)

After giving it a thought, a "Limitpad2" rewrite on a better editor is the best path.

Currently I have an eye on a "local" web-based one :)

(i.e. running from the user computer, using web technology. Still malleable).
