If you want a big wall paper why not get a picture sized for span mode and then crop it into two pieces and put half on each monitor in dual mode?

If only it worked that way. :)  You set your wallpaper and it is duplicated on both displays, you don't have the option of setting a per monitor wallpaper.

Now that can't be beyond the wit of man! Why don't you put a request in the coding snack section and see if you get any takers?

Or even try a google search - on the first page found these two utilities that may do the trick:

Rock on!  Your search-fu is greater than mine.  I did not find this great program, DisplayFusion.  Worked like a charm.  Thanks!

Screen savers are for weenies!  Real men (and women) use monitor power saving.

Also, I don't know what a Chad is. :(  Do I need one?  You got me paranoid now!

... I don't know what a Chad is.

Nor do I. The closest Babylon came was this:
1. a small piece of paper that is supposed to be removed when a hole is punched in a card or paper tape
-Babylon, on the word "chad"

Nah - a Chad was a little guy looking over a wall - all you can see are is fingers wrapped over the wall and the top half of his head (usually bald apart from a few stray hairs). Like this:There is usually a motto of the form; "Wot no ..."

Chad.JPG

There is usually a motto of the form; "Wot no ... ?"

I just thought looking at your beautiful image of the Earth there should a Chad peeping over the horizon saying something humerous ...

"Wot no aliens?"

Anyone else go any ideas .... maybe we should have a competition!

I was going to answer Carol's post, using a drawing I remember from an old Calvin & Hobbes strip, but Google gave me some 2.8 million answers on 'Calvin' (because of Klein). So I am asking you all, how to search (images) for Calvin but not for Calvin Klein ??

Thanks a lot, tinjaw.

I have by now seen and re-seen (?) a thousand Calvin & Hobbes images / strips, but sadly not the one I was looking for, so here is instead what my desktop will look like when sometimes my Desktop_Icon_Toy breaks down - and boy, I don't like the sight of it, because this does really not bring peace to my mind:

Updated desktop (there have been some major changes)

I now have 2 giant autohiding toolbars:

Image4.pngWhats on your desktop?

and with them hidden, you get to see the wallpaper my talented photographer daughter created....and my yahoo widgets (and the 'todo list of doom' with things that never get done)

That are naturally that good looking. (although I may have tweaked color, size, transparency a bit)

On the left, from top to bottom:

iStat CPU
iStat Memory
(they have other similar style widgets too, and some for Vista sidebar)

SpeedFan Widget needs SpeedFan installed (I have the older v5, I like the look much better than v6)
Yahoo Notepad

On the right:
Yahoo Calendar
Werewolf Monitor
Yahoo Day Planner

WAH - they are SERIOUSLY SCARY toolbars - no wonder you hide them!

While other people like things like FARR and Launchy, I prefer doing it this way.

I have had a giant hidden taskbar on the right side of my screen for as long as I have used Windows. I inherited my first pc set up that way and would go insane if it were any other way. It is the first change I make when installing a fresh copy of Windows on a PC.

I don't have a pic of the old P1 with the way it looked with Win98. This is the oldest I have, from about 2002 on my P3 with WinME:
icons02.jpgWhats on your desktop?

This is from a series of screenshots I made with various toolbars expanded, so in case I had to reinstall the OS I could restore the exact position of every icon. (yup, I am a digital packrat that saves everything, including backups from a dead pc I don't even have any more)

How do you remember what all those icons are? I get confused enough with the ones in my system tray (currently 31 - yes I know I should get rid of about 25 of them)!

App - your quick launch bars have always scared me - and continue to do so! Like Carol, I can't imagine remembering what all the icons are pointing to. To each his or her own though... Thanks for show us your desktop and thanks for the screencaps of your set up in the past - sort of cool seeing how it's evolved over time.

My XP notebook is running the Classic theme (with themes service disabled) so features a blue background and exactly one icon in the lower right of the screen: the recycle bin. Pretty boring. Sometimes I wonder why I bother doing this - what else is the desktop for but to provide quick links to oft used programs? I think I'm compensating electronically for the chaos in my (physical) office!

How do you remember what all those icons are?

I might not remember what something is called, or maybe even what the icon looks like, but if I can remember what it does I can easily find it.

Each row you see is for a specific type of software. Frequently used ones are on the line that shows, with the ones I use the most usually on the ends to make it easier to find them.

So, on my text tools row, since notepad2 is the one I use most, it's first....and Windows Live Writer is last, since I use that a lot too. The ones I don't use that often are on the second row which you don't see unless I either pull it down to expand it or click the little bar to see the rest on a menu.

And the top bar on the right side has ALWAYS been devoted to drive shortcuts, with the icons hinting at what is stored on them.

I get confused enough with the ones in my system tray (currently 31 - yes I know I should get rid of about 25 of them)!

I actually have a txt file with a list of all the tray icons that are supposed to be there (45), in order, just so I can tell if any are missing.  :-[

Some people can be too organised you know  :-[

Actually I would have a problem with your approach - sometimes Windows randomly decides to reorganise my Quick Launch bar so that things go into alphabetical order. I really don't know why it does that. With one bar it is quick enough to organise it back the way I want but if that happened to your system ....
