Download manager
« on: January 19, 2017, 06:16 PM »
Now that Net Transport (NetXfer) is no longer functioning and the author isn't responding to emails, need to find a new freeware download manager.  Any recommendations?  Thanks.

Installed DownThemAll as an FF Add-on and found good results, thanks.  I'll miss Net Transport though as a stand-alone program.

I've been using JDownloader 2 for a few months and really like it. You can even paste a youtube link and it will allow you to download the video and/or audio file. Automates a lot of the wait screens for download sites too. It handles prompting for captchas and reconnecting to resume downloads. Give it a shot!

I like that it's open source and stand-alone.  Downloaded but Panda AV neutralized many of its files during installation so I canceled. Do you think they're all false positives?

I use FlashGet v1.73 build 128.  It still works fine in Windows 10.

JDownloader.org should be safe:

Apparently JDownloader's default installers are infested with adware.  There's a post with a link to installers that are supposed to be adware-free:

I haven't tried anything to do with JDownloader, so I can't vouch for the link in the post. I'd suggest taking whatever precautions you might think are appropriate.

Thanks for the suggestion.  The link leads to other links that contain adware bombs.  Think I might just pass on JDownloader for now.

In the mean time, DownThemAll has been fine and the author of Net Tranfser refuses to acknowledge the lifetime license I won here.  Shame on them.

But why? Care to elaborate?

Firefox 57 won't support XUL anymore.
Why would anyone use a Firefox version other than ESR is beyond me.

Firefox 52 based ESR will be around for a long while.

So you can use DownThemAll until 2018. Yay, I guess.

Please don't deprive yourself of an excellent program as JDownloader 2 because the installer have a offer of ad-aware!
Just deny this install and continue..

JDownloader 2 it is the best Downloader I ever tried. And I tried a lot of programs...

For me the only catch of JDownloader is what is made in Java so it is painfully slow to start.
For the other hand, this (made in Java) allows me to run in my NAS 24/7... :-*

This is not an exaggeration. The author of DownThemAll! has left the Mozilla ecosystem and the extension will stop working before the end of 2017 without any chance for a decent replacement.

Recently have been using Free Download Manager with good results.  Thing is, the most recent version, 5.x, is complained about as bloatware with decreased functionality.  Advice which I took was to install the last good version, 3.9.7 build 1627 available at Filehippo.  Integrates as seamlessly with FF plugin Flashgot as NetXfer did.

DownloadThemAll! worked great but this works a little better.
