Meh, it'll be on TPB for another 10-20 years ... no rush.

That was back in the day when you had to MANUALLY install a 3rd party mp3 codec!

Like this one... http://www.free-code...eg_layer_3_codec.htm

If they are shutting down then they should be giving away the pro version till then...if it isn't already that version...Anyone know if that is the case?

I am going to miss the radio plugins for winamp. I am sure many radios on the internet used winamps filters to podcast live.

I hope they go to open source route.

Awww! My first MP3 player. Abandoned it what... a decade back? for Foobar. But I'll never forget you Winamp - you really kicked the llama's ass!

Coming soon, from a former Winamp developer who has every intention to keep developing plugins for it: http://winampforum.com/

Such a shame. Time was when that was one of the first things that got loaded on a new PC. It was on my "must have" list for years.

Guess that llama finally hit back huh?

...

Why do companies insist on "shutting down" rather than keeping "minimal services" like a Download Last Page?

Coming from the Abandonware vs Copyright discussion, just find a file host willing to just make the download available with a "farewell" page.

They don't have to. Someone else is already doing it and has for quite awhile.

 ;)

The biggest issue with Winamp though is all the cool skins and plugins that will become a lot more difficult to find, now, which is why I think that Winamp developer is setting up that forum, to take the place of the official forum when it gets shut down.

Just FYI - the "Go Pro" link is dead. Clicking on the "Free Download" link gets you winamp566_full_en-us.exe...

That's not the official Winamp forum that's existed for years. That's a new one that was set up as a possible replacement for when the official one gets shut down. Not officially affiliated with AOL or Winamp. Possible that the owner doesn't want any posts there yet, till he gets official word on what will happen to the official forum. (perhaps Winamp will have a future, somewhere else? http://techcrunch.co...and-winamp-from-aol/ )

Something added to that site today, after I posted the link:

That yellow stripe was not there before.  ;)

I must admit I do miss the superb equalizer in Winamp. Haven't heard anything better (or even as good) on any general purpose MP3 player software I've used since. I'd be happy if they just released that much as open source.

Yeah, that's a useful site to find versions before they became bloatware.

Going to miss Winamp updates.  Have used it since Win95 days.  This thread has morphed into a memorial.

I have tried this famous Winamp.
The equalizer doesn't work (yes, it's set to ON), the volume is low and the Preamp doesn't work. Is there a way to solve these malfunctionings?
