I havent used Syncback Pro, so sorry, cant compare.
Syncovery aka Super Flexible File Synchronizer (SFFS) is really enterprise level software.
It's extemely dependable. *Lots* of options (which can actually be a bit of a problem if you're a basic user like me).
I use it fairly basically, three sets of local backups, and one backup to amazon s3.

Even though I am a basic user, I've received great support (for my sometimes stupid questions). Have reported a couple of minor bugs over the years that got fixed same or next day. It get's updated very regularly. I've had it six years - in that time there was only one paid update (in 2012) and even that was reasonable cost.

In other words I think it's a bargain at that price ;)

I switched to Syncovery from SyncBackPro. I use it primarily for the mirroring capabilities. I have an external drive enclosure hooked up to an old laptop that does not support SATA Port Multiplexing (4 drive bay, but the system only sees the first drive on the bay). Since the drive is USB, Windows will not let me setup a software raid 1, so I use syncovery to mimic this. It works well, and it is actually a lot more flexible than SBP. I recommend it!

Hi,

I understand this is fine, well-supported program.  However, if we do not do fancy sync stuff, but more backup in the mode of Cobian and Backup4All, can you mention what you like about the program that might help me justify jumping at the special and making it my main backup program, with whatever sync comes down the sink ? Thanks.

Might be too late with this info Steven, but it does backup and lots of it:

  • incremental zipped/unzipped
  • partial file updating
  • 'Synthetic backup' = partial file updating + versioning + zipping
  • Real-time-sync i.e. monitoring + syncing - if this is combined with zipping it works as versioning

this backup doesnt have versioning applied but you can see the options here ('Real-time-sync' is another tab)

EDIT/ I misread your post Steven:
if you want simpler, I'd go for something else. Advantages here are flexibility and dependability. (I have made mistakes because of messing around with options where I didnt really know what they did. OTOH, there is a wizard which guides you through setting up a backup, includes many options - you can modify it later to explore the rest of the options.) Organisation of backups is not ideal - you can group them by name: let's say I have a bunch of backups going to a particular external drive e.g. "F" so I could start the name of each backup to that drive with "F" e.g. "F settings"; "F documents". These will then group under the heading "F". If I want to run a group I have to select the individual backups and run (like opening a bunch of files).

Today, Friday the 25'th of October, 2013, it is 50% off again
http://www.bitsdujou...ftware/syncovery-pro

With Syncovery Pro, you set up backup and sync jobs (as many as you like) and either run them manually as you need to, or automate them using a scheduler. The great thing is, Syncovery Pro works with any mounted volume, whether it's a local hard disk, network share, or external drive. Plus, it has full support for Google Drive, Amazon S3, WebDAV, FTP, SSH, and HTTP. Have ZIP archives? No problem! Have encrypted files? Still no problem!

Does anyone know of a tool similar to SFFS/Syncovery for Linux? SFFS has v5.71 available but it lacks realtime monitoring which is crucial for me. I am looking to simulate RAID-1 with drive mirroring. I used to run Syncovery on Windows to achieve this. I realize I can do this with rsync, however, the problem there is that since these drives have already been formatted NTFS that each file appears to be new on the source volume, thus resulting in a copy to the destination. This would be fine for a small amount of data, but I have nearly 4.5TB of data to mirror :-/

This is tonight on Bits, and likely will be extended.  (Or you can ask a special request.)

I loaded it and was quite impressed.  I've tried Backup4All, Ascomp Backup Maker, Personal Backup (Rathlev) and some others.  This is mildly techie, and strong on things like cloud and remote, and has good support, and does not upgrade for $ frequently.  So even with the others, the free or older versions I have (Backup4All) has limitations. Some money should be spent somewhere.

The biggest limitation is that when you here the word "sync" you wonder if it can do standard file-by-file backup in a friendly manner. My sense so far is yes.

I do wonder if it might have a feature I am always wondering about .. placing the soft-coded drive number in at the time of backup.

I did do a quick backup of my active application folders to my WebDav DriveHQ (they give you a utility that seems to finally be working well, Syncovery has one too) and was very pleased with what it told me and stuff like that.  I like how it shows you what is going to be done in tree fashion, you can tweak and say no to certain nothings (e.g. log files) and shows you the sizes. Kewl stuff.  It seems to want to help you think about what you will have in the right-hand target area.

====

Here it was so sharp that it offered to change the WebDav drive assignment of DriveHQ to its own WebDav way:

The path
H:\Sycovery Stout Dell Apps
should be specified as
\\0.p.drivehq.com©40960\DavWWWRoot\Sycovery Stout Dell Apps
because mapped drive letters are not always available.
Would you like to accept this change?

Neat.

Steven

3 years later it's only fair to tell that Syncovery has a version for Linux as well: https://www.syncover....com/download/linux/

I really just wanted to say that the Bits du Jour price is quite the same as the normal upgrade price. I upgraded today (via Super Flexible Software Ltd. & Co. homepage) for €24.94 = $30

1) Yes, extended: ~16 hours to go as of this post

2) agree with your summary: great support (email, forum that I used once years ago, so not sure of current status); often updated, paid upgrades *very* seldom. Techie yeah, only problem could be too many options, especially if you're not sure of them.

3) Yes, 'Sync_' name is misleading. This is a very sophisticated backup programme with loads of options, including file monitoring & partial file update.

4) dont know if it can easily change drive letter on backup -- would be nice
