[IDEA] Opening List of Links
« on: March 19, 2012, 12:19 PM »
Hi there,

I was browsing a website today in which I came across a list of 5 links like:

Link1
Link2
Link3
Link4
Link5

I had to manually click each link to open the webpage. At that point, I realized that this could be a coding snack.

Best example is on this same page at the top. We see a list of 5 links like:

DonationCoder.com Forum
DonationCoder.com Software
Coding Snacks
Post New Requests Here
Start new topic

Is it possible to code this like:

Select all the links, right-click and choose an option like "Open links as Tabs" or "Open links as Windows" so that all the links are opened simultaneously?

Thanks

If you're on Firefox you can try Snap Links Plus.

@nosh: Thanks for sharing the link. But is there any such add-on / extension / code for IE?

This is a MaxThon AddOn. It opens all links with one click according to the ad copy. If you are not familiar with MaxThon, it uses the IE engine. It could do anything IE did but with Tabs, ages ago. I used it for awhile some years ago. It's like FF in that there are tons of user written AddOns for it.

If you hold down the CTRL key while you click each link, each one opens in a new tab. I don't know if a dedicated app would be any easier than that.

I haven't tried these bookmarklets but see if it works:

https://www.squarefr...klets/pagelinks.html

A separate app can be simpler if only in that it unifies the different methods across all browsers like if you want SnapLinks across multiple browsers or don't want to install an extension or if there's a rarer feature like Opera's hold mouse to open link in the background which saves you a keyboard press or expandable features like Opera "save notes to tab" except in an external text editor. It can also apply for text editors if you're using ones that don't turn links into clickables.

In parallel with this solution, you can also use "Middle Mouse" or "Mouse 3" to open links in a new tab.

If you find yourself opening links often, and if you have a book-mark bar, putting links into a "folder", and you can right click -> "Open all bookmarks".

Similar functionality but works with many browsers is Browser Bunch

It will read in a text file of links then pop up a Gui with buttons for up to 6 browsers. It requires loading of the urls in a text file. As with the folder method above, it requires a preparatory step. But you're only limitation is that the browser can open multiple urls in new tabs from the command tail. See the link for details.

Thought I'd mention this is a piece of cake if you use Opera

On the the web page.
Hit Shift-Ctrl-L
A new Opera "page" will open up with all links
Type some filtering text in the search box in the upper right hand corner.
e.g.    .pdf  or .jpg or  any part of the text in the url
Select all the links you want (using usual Windows selection type mechanisms)
Right click to choose open in Background Window or Tab or Save As etc...

Works for 100's of selected links on the page - if you need that

A small write up here. opera links panel
I'm sure there are plenty of others

@NigelH that's a nice feature. Esp. with the filter input.

Hmm, with Opera once you create the panel of links you can do Select All from the Edit Menu, then paste in an editor such as EditPadLite.  From there delete unwanted links and save as a text file for use with Browser Bunch. Easier than right clicking one at a time to clipboard or dragging individual links onto the editor.
