Make an original joke or riddle
« on: October 16, 2010, 08:21 PM »
Ever made up a joke or riddle?  I just did, but rather than just have my own party, I thought I'd let everybody play.

There's lots of bright folks around here, so I thought it would be fun to see how creative and funny people could be. :)

The rules are...
  • It must be completely original.  No re-writing somebody else's joke/riddle, please. :P
  • Fly solo or you can collaborate with a friend(s).
  • Put the answer in a "Spoiler."
  • Spoiler
    Have fun!

PS - Feel free to create as many as you like.

Where are you if where you were is where you are and where you'll be?

I was thinking the answer would be:

Spoiler
Here. As in the transcendental "here". It's where you were, it's where you are, and it's where you will be.

I have no idea whether or not this will work. But let's see...

The joke below requires you to be fast and click fast. Don't pause. Just do. Read, answer, then click to proceed. Got it?

(I can't put spoilers inside spoilers, so just go in order...)

Question 1
What do dogs eat?

Answer 1
Dog food.

Question 2

Ok, got another one, but it's kind of NSFW, so I'll just give a link. It's my current Facebook status, and a true story. (Background information: English is my wife's second language.)

It's kind of like those jokes that you read in Reader's Digest, but NSFW. I nearly peed myself laughing!

Click the wall link. You'll be able to see it then. FB I guess goes to INFO by default.

Your friends request hasn't come through yet. It's slow very often.

Not a problem, even when awaiting a friends request your post still shows on my stream :)

RISE! NECROTHREAD, RISE!

Got a riddle and a puzzle for the musically inclined, and the programmatically inclined out there.

RIDDLE #1

Here's a riddle for the more musically inclined:

Best Slayer song = Dissident Aggressor
Best Judas Priest song = Diamonds & Rust
<fill in this line>

PUZZLE #1

For the coders & programmers out there, create a recursive version of the above riddle.

Enjoy!

there's probably a few options here, and to be honest I'm not sure of the (possible) track for the follow-up line:

Best Joan Baez song = The Night they Drove Old Dixie Down
<fill in this line>

CLOSE! "A" for effort!

EDIT: Actually, that will do for an answer (and likely necessary for the puzzle), but there are better answers.

Want me to PM you a better answer? You've got a decent secondary answer there.

Definitely one of the better songs I've had stuck in my head this week ... Thanks!

I know next to nothing about Slayer, but figured it out from this line:
Best Judas Priest song = Diamonds & Rust

Diamonds & Rust is a Joan Baez song.
So I presumed that "Dissident Aggressor" is a Judas Priest song.
So the challenge (from a musical POV) is to find a cover that Baez sang well, the author of same song having in turn sang a cover, who's author sang a cover, who's author sang a cover, ad infinitum. But I'm not a big fan of Baez, so there it lies. 40hz would be the man for this, he seems to be a walking encyclopedia about music - and everything else too when I think about it :-)

^^ Slayer covered Judas Priest's "Dissident Aggressor" off of the album "Sin After Sin". On "Sin After Sin", Judas Priest covered Joan Baez's "Diamonds & Rust" off of the album "Diamonds & Rust".

She's actually got quite a few covers on that album.

PUZZLE #1

For the coders & programmers out there, create a recursive version of the above riddle.

If the thread ever gets to 'Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower' it gets recursive.

In the booklet accompanying his Biograph album, Dylan said: "I liked Jimi Hendrix's record of this and ever since he died I've been doing it that way... Strange how when I sing it, I always feel it's a tribute to him in some kind of way."

She's actually got quite a few covers on that album.

I guess that's a tip (maybe it *has* to be from that album?) - here for anyone willing to give it a go:

    "Diamonds & Rust" (Joan Baez)
    "Fountain of Sorrow" (Jackson Browne)
"Never Dreamed You'd Leave in Summer" (Stevie Wonder, Syreeta Wright)
"Children and All That Jazz" (Joan Baez)
"Simple Twist of Fate" (Bob Dylan)
    "Blue Sky" (Dickey Betts)
    "Hello in There" (John Prine)
    "Jesse" (Janis Ian)
"Winds of the Old Days" (Joan Baez)
"Dida" (Joan Baez) – duet with Joni Mitchell
Medley: "I Dream of Jeannie" (Stephen Foster) / "Danny Boy"[4] (Frederick Weatherly)
