Build 63
New Features

    * Added a new kind of item: 'select' which allows you to create a pop-up based on a search term (still in progress, and I have yet to add 'how to use' to the Wiki)
    * Items now have selectable icons to help when categorizing and organizing your completions
    * Different types of Replacement / Completion etc. automatically get different icons
    * Character Map now double-clickable to enter special characters

Bug Fixes

    * Tray menu now always available
    * 'Last used' timestamp now updated whenever something is triggered
    * Minimize to tray working again
    * Popup window now sized much better

.63 here I come  8)

Damn, looks as if I'll have to make do with .64  ;)
Also, what a relief to have minimizing working properly again (here, at least).

Icons are interesting. I don't think I want to apply a few hundred manually; my eyes can't take it.

Charmap's useful.
Bearing in mind my slow-witted nature, I popped it up and then couldn't remove it until it occurred to me to expand the window. Worth an additional context menu item as an alternative means to send it away?

.64 ...  ;)

Having problems minimizing, closing and freezing but I can't pin it down though it seems to happen after closing to tray via the red cross and then using 'Show' in the tray context menu to open again - after that I can't minimize nor close.
And changing icons will only stick after a restart (I tried re-indexing but no go).

Otherwise all's fine it seems, and yes, Auspex does run smoother and faster - thanks again timns.

The icons will also update if you click the little 'refresh' button at top right next to the search box.

As for the minimizing - you've had that before, eh? I'll try again to reproduce it here.

Thanks!

Just to make life difficult, that was happening to me in the previous version, but has now ended with .64  :o

Though this report may be premature, Auspex has expired.

Page 9 of this thread shows no user content, only page structure and avatars (for me at least on Opera 10.63 & Win XP). Some bug on the servers perhaps?

Build 65
New Features

    * A shiny new icon and splash screen logo from DC's very own nudone
    * Fuzzy matching! For example, if you start typing 'cump...' Auspex will now suggest similar words that it holds in its list (e.g. complete, computer etc.) - but only if no exact matches exist.

It's fast, too.

    * General searching improved - when you're looking for matches, Replacements will also be suggested

Known Issues

    * Fuzzy matching sometimes offers duplicate words in the pop-up

Yes, ol' nudone has some real talent.

Thanks for the reply - the fuzzy matching is still under development, but you guys give such good feedback, I wanted to get it out there so that you spot all the bugs that I miss. :-[

but you guys give such good feedback

And here's a note from Albert Ross…

The flash screen is striking and I don't have to Scrabble to see it.
...65 is fast!
Fuzzies look good.

But:
  • Run Auspex
  • Use it in the state in which it opens
  • Works OK

  • Minimize to task bar
  • Works OK

  • Restore from task bar
  • Works OK

  • Close button -> tray
  • No longer works

Ok I'll look into zat right away. Do thank Albert for me.

Update: it Replacements still work, but completions do not. I imagine the popup window is simply not being allowed to show.

Good catch.

Are these settings supposed to be fully functional yet?

Screenshot - 11_29_2010 , 4_50_28 PM.png

  • No matter what you set the option to, it will always show the splash screen.
  • Run when Windows starts doesn't work.
  • Minimize to tray on close works to send it to the tray once, but upon restoring it from the tray, you can't click the buttons to minimize to taskbar or close it back to tray...and all the rest of the controls are disabled. If you minimize it after by clicking the taskbar button instead, then restore it by clicking the taskbar button again, the buttons are clickable again, but the close button doesn't do anything.

Not as entirely fully functional as they will be  :-[ - but the minimize stuff should definitely be working! Can you confirm that you're running build 65 please?

v 65

OK - all's working well except the minimizing thing still and the fuzzy matching seems to be function even when it's turned off !
I was buying some stuff on .... and when entering the CB details, Auspex tried to match numbers with words and  of course that didn't work : the numbers appeared as words ! I exited Auspex and the details (card number etc.) showed up as they should. Weird.

Otherwise I'm really happy with it but I would like the prompt window to appear much closer to the cursor, as it is I sometimes, quite often, miss the prompt.

Fuzzy is probably a simple bug... and in fact I've improved the matching quite a bit ready for the new build.

(Fewer false positives, less triggers from things like punctuation and numbers, better phrase detection)

So I'll get a new build out shortly.

Re: the prompt window, that's a tricky one - I ask the current application where its caret is, and then try to pop up just to the right and below. In most cases the reply seems to be quite good, but for instance in Thunderbird I always get the top-left of the edit window. I'll do some more research.

Thanks!

Running this seems to break windows-key functionality on Windows 7 (can someone verify?)
