Thanks for the quick reply

Yes, documentation is rather technical, but there have been very few requests lately about this tool, so I've assumed everybody is happy... :-[

I think you might have more people requesting help/features etc. if they could see a solid example of the tool in use. I'm still not sure about use-cases and if other people are unsure they probably wouldn't want to investigate without some sort of assurance that a) it won't hurt their system and b) it is fit for their purpose.

Yes, I know I'm just bleating and no help whatsoever! If I had the time I'd try and knock up some help-text you could incorporate in your web-page. Again though -the use of this seems too abstract (for me) at the moment...
I don't suppose you'd know if there was an app that could solve my problem (rather than using AHK which for me usually involves downloading sample code which spectacularly fails to work due to compatibility problems with the newest AHK version).

I love the idea of what this program does but right now I am very time-short and can't quite make out what exactly it does. Unfortunately this page and your website are very technical (and could use a fair bit of white-space for easier reading) but trying to find a good scenario for use for someone in a rush is very difficult. A youtube video and maybe a quick explanation/ walk-through regarding the use of a couple of specific applications, hotkeys and data files would help here.

For example, I would like to be able to control SMPlayer which is set with the '<-' and '->' cursor keys to jump back and forth and the "#" key which is set to pause/continue.
Ideally I'd like to be typing in OpenOffice Writer and press "#" to pause/continue the playback without the focus switching to SMPlayer or the '#' getting typed in OpenOffice Writer.
Can this be done? If so how? Which files will I have to create or edit to make it work and what should their contents look like? This high level sort of explanation is what I think your website lacks, though I'm sure it doesn't lack for technical information!!!

Thanks in advance for any help here.

I suspect the answer is to make Windows accept the AHK script interpreter as the default application for .ahk files (you probably have a text/ programming editor set as the default). This has security risks as you might double click an unknown .ahk file to edit it (instead of right clicking and selecting edit) and run it instead.

The other option is to create in your start folder a .lnk shortcut file to the AHK executable and pass the name of the script as a command line parameter.

I won't describe how to do this in detail as I suspect you are web savvy enough to check the AHK help file for option one and to google 'how to change default application for [insert O/S version here]' but if you do need further help, AHK version and O/s details would be handy.

P.S. - I don't know why the other scripts work but accents doesn't. Does it work normally when you double click on it???

This is working on Win8 and has a pretty accurate and readable display even in the ALT-TAB preview -unlike some clocks and other programs (gnash-gnash, moan-moan). I wish other programs could be so readily (to coin a word) glance-able.

As a feature request I would suggest the user could pick a different colour to show when the computer is plugged in and charging. So if the plug isn't switched on or the cable isn't firmly in -that would be obvious. I'm already so chuffed about the preview thing but that feature request would make it practically perfect!

Piriform ccleaner has an 'Uninstall' utility (click 'tools' icon) which starts up much faster than the Windows add/remove programs applet. Try it as it may not succumb to this MS bug. I'd definitely recommend an alternative tool such as this. Plus the other functions of the program are just as handy.

It looks like recursion is stopping short on my system. It does not dig enough. Is it possible to increase folder recursion number?

Also is it possible to create shortcuts based on parent folder`s name rather than from exe?
:) Just updated ShortCutter v1.1.

- 20061209 - v1.1: Marks the shortcuts with modification date instead of creation date, removes shortcuts to missing files, updates modification date of all shortcuts.

Nice program (Shortcutter 1.1) but it doesn't seem to 'shortcut' files in the actual source folder itself, only in sub-folders (Ie. recursion seems to work except in the 'top-level' or 'specified' directory). Having said that I've not rigorously checked the lower folders. I'm using XP Home Ed.

Edit: I thought switching Recurse off should do the trick but it seems to still create shortcuts as if it was switched on. Strange. The Shortcutter.ini file has the line recurse=No as expected. Even quitting SC and restarting it does not change its apparent behavior.

A way of creating shortcuts to folders within -and including -the source folder is an obvious extension -you could allow *.folder as a mechanism for the user. I can't offhand think of another way to do this except maybe with a windows search. Which didn't work at all for me! Maybe in other versions of Windows it works better (oh for the grace of Windows 98).

Another approach, may be simpler, and works with other programs...

Search for the strings "Copy path to clipboard" "context menu" in a good search engine... Download and install a program or small .reg registry file to add a context menu "Copy path to clipboard" to do just that (inspect it / virus scan it for safety first). Then you can do just that in windows explorer or any list of icons (such as the open/ save menu dialogues of most applications). Easy, certainly works for me.

You could check out EndItAll by PC Magazine at

Have not tried it in the DOS world but will try and give you guys feedback. Thanks!

Well, is this topic closed, wetsmellydog?

As per tradition, what would you like to name this?

A collection (of people at least) can be called a party. So I suggest you call it (ahem) PartyTime!!!  :)

Page 9 of this thread shows no user content, only page structure and avatars (for me at least on Opera 10.63 & Win XP). Some bug on the servers perhaps?

I'm sorry you've had no other responses. Have you tried a simple batch file? I would guess the following...

1) If any file is transferred then they all will

2) A sufficiently long 'pause' command between each copy command might ensure that no one file is copied over before its predecessor (which might mess up your ordering.

3) If such a batch file works then a similar autoIT /autohotkey script could be attempted that could scale up/ down the 'pause's according to the size of the files being copied.
copy c:\letter.txt c:\document

So try a simple batch file for one file and then scale up for lots... and keep us posted.

Or you could do it the way I suggested in:

IDEA: Universal restore last position in any text when opened https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=23902.0

append the font parameters to the file name or save them in a separate file in the same folder. Or even simpler: use the first or last line if it exists. If you use more than one notepad, you have to customize the key commands needed to change the font per app.

You could (in later Windows versions at least) use ADS (Alternate Data Streams) but this may end up setting off warning bells in some security products.

I've just sent you a DC personal message re. help-file documentation. Ie. would you like some help with that?

Drakh : If you're asking for programming help you'd best give the programming language you're using or you'll get no help.

Eric : Nine days for a feature-rich program... You may be the tenth wonder of the world.

A question that potential coders might want answered: Can you copy files to your device in windows explorer?

Maybe these posts IDEA: Allow input commands to be sent to background windows. and

IDEA: Ability to select multiple windows and send keyboard input to all of them will help.  I thought the topic sounded familiar. :)

Let me and others know if/ when the problem is solved for you -or if the links helped.

I'd like to volunteer for help/ doc authoring; I'm generally pretty good at the ol' spelling in English. I've previously used Word and Javadocs; I'm up for trying the above software ('Help & Manual Pro' and/or 'Dr Explain') or downloadable free/ cheap alternatives. Obviously this will require some participation with the software author.

I can't believe more people haven't volunteered yet!

I would like to know about licences as it would be galling to learn a language, write a cool app (as if) and attempt to make some money only to find out the licence of your choice of language was unsuitable (maybe even a court case threatened). At which point do you have to buy a compiler/ suite. Any salient experiences, good or bad, folks?

I guess the obvious questions are 1) Which operating system? 2) What command line? 3) Is a gui required for changing the command line? 4) Or is changing a .ini style file sufficient?

I can't help feeling you'd be better off with a launcher style program like popsel, qsel, our-own (or rather Mousers' own) FARR or launchy. Either one could be tethered to a hotkey (using start-menu shortcuts for instance).

Okay, I couldn't figure out how to jump to tabs using the keyboard

Try using the keys Ctrl-Tab to jump from one tab to the next, with shift to go backwards if nec.

I love the idea, Mario fatjoe but I think that delays should be added in to allow other users to use the lyrics site rather than one user hogging their resources.

Great idea, perfect for students to test their heavy mettle! One question, how are you getting the above accuracy? I'd have thought it should be (63/21)*100 = 300%, not 30%. But I'm no expert, just guessing here.

I've noticed I started this post asking for a Pie-chart displaying Memory use rather than CPU use. This is because I'd obviously ideally like both, but either would be a step-up right now.

I've started a new thread (in which Mouser has shown some interest) in this Process Tamer board
