Prelude to Axanar:

Wow!! Very cool. Too bad Paramount decided to get their feathers in a huff about it. In a perfect world, Paramount would hire them to make the film, as the crew who put this together obviously show the talent required.

Prelude to Axanar received $ 101,000 in a successful Kickstarter campaign and the finished film helped the Axanar team raise $ 638,000 in their second Kickstarter for the upcoming feature film.

There's a lot of videos out there about size of the universe etc, but I really enjoyed this one.
You know, the usual: full screen, dark room, loud volume recommended

Star Size Comparison 2

could also have gone in the 'interesting thread', or the music thread (Alpha by Vangelis)

Forgot to mention my source, What if the Earth were a middle-aged adult and other comparisons which is worth a read  (may even have gotten the link here somewhere?)

Pretty cool, but it kind of lost me near the end when it visualized the entire universe as a sphere, and then other universes ("the multiverse") as other spheres.

Plz go here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuhrD8eNi-0
This is a Vietnamese vid, in which the little rat is 'rocking out' to the music. IOW, the music was not added afterward to the recording, but is part of the original video sound track, and the rat can hear it and is 'boogieing out' to the 'hip hop' as good as any human preadolescent child.
Either that, or it is a very clever fake-out, as betrayed by the distinct absence of any extraneous background sounds.  8)
edit-- Come to think of it, I wonder if the poor little guy is suffering from some sort of neurological disorder. The vid was originally posted 03-30-11, so according to this duckduckgo query, he's probably died of old age by now; so I'm obliged to finis my post with something sentimental, like "Fly high, little guy."
edit- Here's the way cool lyrics to the song track...what the heck, here's the actual lyrics.....
Trouble will find you no mater where you go, oh oh
No Matter if you're fast no matter if you're slow, oh oh
The eye of the storm and the cry in the morn, oh oh
Your fine for a while but then start to loose control
He's there in the dark
He's there in my heart
He waits in the winds
He's gotta play a part
Trouble is a friend
Yeah trouble is a friend of mine. oh oh

Trouble is a friend but trouble is a foe, oh oh
And no matter what I feed him he always seems to grow, oh oh
He sees what I see and he knows what I know, oh oh
So don't forget as you ease on down the road

So don't be alarmed if he takes you by the arm
I won't let him win, but I'm a sucker for his charm
Trouble is a friend
Yeah trouble is a friend of mine, oh oh

Today I came across this documentary style post mortem for Ludum Dare 37. The production values are fantastic, and I thought it was generally well done and humorous, too.

Hi there ^^

I'm surprised but it seems that Predator: Dark Ages hasn't been mentioned yet in this thread?

^^ That Predator: Dark Ages looked like rather well done SF. A credible fictional extension from the original concept, and though it moves us through time, it seemed relatively consistent with the general theme of the Predator movies.

I realized this thread is for 'short vids', so I moved my post for a full-length movie, 'The Doberman Gang', here.

This one had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end, then left me saddened but satisfied in the end.
Excellent filmography and story pacing.

For 12 minutes of innocent fun-loving adolescent bro & sis duo's energetic and zany 'turnout not burnout', plz check out JUST DANCE 2017. I originally found her dance vid while looking for more rat vids to post at DC, found her meet my rats vid, liked that, and ended up going to her yt home page @ simplytasha.

The North Face: Alex Honnold - El Sendero Luminoso:

that made me very nervous...

I see he just climbed El Capitan in Yosemite which is 3,000 foot and pretty much straight up.
http://www.nationalg...nal-park-el-capitan/

I saw a documentary in the cinema a few years back To The Limit, about two brother climbers (Huber) who were trying to break the speed record climbing El Capitan, but that was using ropes -- AFAICR they failed in that attempt because one of them fell.

Stoicism as a recipe for a happy life and for dealing with suicidal depression.
Blog post: A New/Old Strategy for Decision-Making (saved to scrapbook)

Interesting and potentially very useful/helpful post. Links to this video:
Video: TED Talks - Tim Ferriss (13:21min.)
WHY YOU SHOULD DEFINE YOUR FEARS INSTEAD OF YOUR GOALS
https://embed.ted.co...stead_of_your_goals#
In the low (acute depression) point in a bi-polar swing (he suffers from BPD), Tim Ferriss was at the point of self-destruction (suicide).
What saved him was a recipe he developed to help avoid self-destruction (and self-paralysis).

Region: Western philosophy
School: Stoicism

Zeno of Citium (/'zi?no?/; Greek: ????? ? ??t?e??, Zenon ho Kitieus; c. 334 – c. 262 BC) was a Hellenistic thinker[1] from Citium (??t???, Kition), Cyprus, and probably of Phoenician descent.[2] Zeno was the founder of the Stoic school of philosophy, which he taught in Athens from about 300 BC. Based on the moral ideas of the Cynics, Stoicism laid great emphasis on goodness and peace of mind gained from living a life of Virtue in accordance with Nature. It proved very successful, and flourished as the dominant philosophy from the Hellenistic period through to the Roman era.
,,,
Zeno died around 262 BC.[a] Laërtius reports about his death:
As he was leaving the school he tripped and fell, breaking his toe. Striking the ground with his fist, he quoted the line from the Niobe:
"I come, I come, why dost thou call for me?"
and died on the spot through holding his breath.[24]

Tim Ferriss video notes:
He bought a book on "simplicity", which held the quote:
@05:20 He gave the quote: "We suffer more often in imagination than in reality." - Seneca the younger.
Which led to" Prememdiatio malorum" (the pre-meditation of evils).
Which led him to develop :fear-setting".
@06:00 He describes "Fear-Setting" (Goal-setting, but for FEARS). [@10:20 He does it once a quarter-year.]

3-pages of analysis
Page 1: What if I ,,,? (list of fears causing procrastination of action steps)
Define: (the worst things/events you can imagine happening if you take that first step).
Prevent: (what could be done to prevent each fered event feared, or devrease its likelihood).
Repair: (if the worst-case scenarios eventuated, what could be done to repair the damage?Key: conside who are the likely people who have had to deal with such events and have useful experience of same and that you could learn from?)

Page 2: What might be the benefits of an attempt or partial success? (the upsides)

Page 3:
The Cost of Inaction (doing nothing).
(Emotionally, Physically, Financially, etc.)
    6 months-------- 1 year -------- 3 years
If one avoids the action for these periods, then what might be the result - what might one's life look like after those periods?

@12:26 He gives the quote: "Easy choices - hard life. Hard choices - easy life." - Jerzy Gregorek's "mantra".
He also quotes JerzyG as saying: "He couldn't imagine a life more beautiful than that of a stoic.".
