Free Total Commander licences
« on: May 06, 2009, 08:23 AM »
According to Newsletter for May 6th, 2009 there are 10 free Total Commander licences to give away.

I've decided that 5 of them will be given randomly to members who will participate in DC by writing software review in May, 2009.

So if you are using excellent tool with a lot of nice features and you think someone else would be glad to hear about it... write your review in Reviews section of this forum.

You've got three weeks to break your laziness down and win TC licence key.

What kind of web app? It might be strange to read about some service which cannot be installed on my own server BUT I think I will not put such restriction here 'cause it might be helpful for other people.

So... if there is no "desktop only" rule for this section of the forum board, feel free to write.

One rule to remind people of:  You should not write a review of something you are personally involved in or stand to benefit from financially.

You should not write a review of something you are personally involved in or stand to benefit from financially.

This can be checked for some cases: an author needs winners' email addresses and AFAIK he's not always pleased with "free" ones.

Feel free to write anything.

It could be considered as bribe but prize draw will be random, so it's OK after all  :P

Write the review where exactly? In this thread? In this forum? In the mini-review sub-forum?

I'm a little dense today. :)

First post fixed.

BTW It can be full or mini-review (as far as it falls under "Reviews").

I'm putting the finishing touches on my review for submission to hopefully secure myself a free license to TC.

I only hope the forum can handle it. I kind of went a little crazy with review length and number of images to include. Hope I don't 'break' Mouser's web host. ;)

Here's the (not-so-)mini-review:

No need for apologizing regarding something that was beyond your control. A person cannot rightly complain about the speed in which one is getting something free.

Thanks for organizing this, fenix, and sticking with it all the way through.

Hi Folks,

Definitely.  Well-done.

Very fine software, a good number of licenses, and a variety pack of methods.  Rarely have I heard of a freebie that brought forth this level of enthusiasm.   (Other software authors and reps.. take note !)

Shalom,
Steven

Steven,
The reason why the level of enthusiasm is so high is first and foremost because of the capabilities of the program. Right after installing it the amount of tools and functions at your disposal is vast. Once you start adding plugins the amount goes from vast to near limitless in a hurry. Properly configured its abilities are near unmatched in file management on any computing platform ever.

The second reason is of course because of Total Commander's author. His vision of what a file manager should be started well over ten years ago and that he has been able to keep his code-base well-maintained to the point that even now ten years later he's able to add new features with ease to his code should be a testament to his programming ability. He, unlike other file manager authors, takes a very keen interest in what his users think weighing each suggestion they make very carefully rather than just dismissing it out of hand like other authors.

If you commit to learning Total Commander's power you may find yourself with more hard drive space as you uninstall programs because you no longer need them as TC does it as well or better than those stand-alone apps.

The only file manager that I can think of off-hand that rivals TC in features is FAR as it had huge amounts of plugins available for it as well, but it has been abandoned by its author last I heard.

FAR went open source and is still up to date.

Good to hear. I stand corrected on the issue of FAR's development status, but everything else I said still stands.
