MP3 Player
« on: December 13, 2005, 06:58 PM »
I would like a program that plays just MP3's (WMA, OGG etc too if anyone wants that) and WM Playlists. I'm sick of having to open up WMP everytime I want to show a song to a friend, or just have a quick song on while I'm checking my emails.

- Simple Interface (Play, Pause, Stop, Search Bar).
- Pop Up Window with preset directory (eg. My Music Folder, Playlist Folder etc).
- 'Open With (eg.)EZPlay' in right click menu when song in compatible format is selected.

While probably not what you're looking for, http://www.musikcube.com/ is another nice player - really good if you have a huge collection of files, since it pre-indexes to a database so it doesn't have to re-read ID3 tags etc. all the time. Fast searches!

sorry, not trying to hijack this thread, but does anyone know of a winamp plugin that will allow me to set 'markers' for particular tracks, i.e. when a pre-marked song starts it will beging playing NOT at the start but instead will 'jump' into the track and begin playing from whatever time i had set the marker to be.

again, sorry, i know i should be asking in a wimamp forum.

I took the liberty of highlighting your main problem here :D

If you are one of those "start PC up to check emails and shut it down again" guys I suggest you use Winamp. I moved a link to Winamp into the AutoStart folder, so Winamp will start to play a tune whenever I reboot my PC. If you have an older PC you could try version 2.x instead of 5.x

Oh yeah, and check out http://mail.google.com/ if you aren't using it already - it's great!!

I also like 1by1 for a barebones MP3 player.

brotherS, is there any 2.x download on the official winamp site? Last time I checked, I couldn't find it... glad I kept the 2.91 install files, but curious whether there's a more recent 2.x version available.

Not that I know, but you can find the 2.95 with Google's help :) For example: http://www.softpedia...p-Download-3067.html

I still recommend version 5.x though if your PC is not 10 years old ;)

Audioactive Player is a nice, free, simple player with a focus on audio quality.

I wonder why it isn't listed on http://fileforum.betanews.com/ ...

Probably because it's sooooooooooooo old.  That player (AudioActive) hasn't probably been updated in 4-5 years.

musikcube is also fully open source - foobar is not.
i think i may switch to musikcube myself - its more intuitive for me to create playlists the way it does it.

Personally I think WMP11 is a really good program

at least for organizing the own MP3 collection.
It's faster and better than the Apple ITunes Suite
Find+Run Robot 2.90.01
Windows 7

Well this really depends on how powerfull the function you want for the player, here are some cool ones for ya:

Apollo 37zz (End Version)
This is a high in sound quality pure audio player , support DSP plugins, playlist...and so on.
Official site: http://koti.welho.com/hylinen/apollo/

CHKenPlayer v10 (English)
A very small Multi Media player 31KB only :tellme:, it can playback video files but with external video codec install only, comes with a small playlist.
Official site: http://www.chken.com/ViewSoft.asp?id=1

KMPlayer v2.9.3.1214 (Latest Stable Version)
The best and most powerfull Multi Media player I ever used, self support to playback almost all common file types without installing external codec (exp RealMedia files) superb in sound quality as well in movie decoding, support DSP plugins and hell lots more powefull functions too long to list out. It's consider a good replacement for Winamp, and it's Open Source Software .

You should try XMPlay http://un4seen.com/xmplay.html. A very lightweight mp3 player with lots of available plugins and skins. I have used a lot of mp3 players but i think i'm sticking to this one..

I'm partial to VU Player -- first cddb-enabled player I ever used and still my favorite player when I don't need one with a built in library manager.
