Should we have a yearly Best Avatar award on DC?
« on: March 24, 2009, 09:31 PM »
If so, who would you nominate?

Alternatively, maybe what we should do is make a special mug just made up of active forum member avatars.. It would be a pretty special mug to give out to active forum members.

Some top contenders have to be:

Nudone:

App103:

App wins, hands down! (Though you should verify that those images that cat is Googling are SFW before handing it to her.)

I like 'em all but I think App103 deserves a prize for using up an entire roll of TP

Then there's this to think about bug.gif from Josh

I loathe insects. I'll just think about something more pleasant... like movie_blade_runner_leon.gif

I'm in awe of App's absolutely awesome avatar. It's clever on so many levels.

(Though you should verify that those images that cat is Googling are SFW before handing it to her.)

But wouldn't that depend on who the W is? ;D

I agree. The now classic scene with Julie Hagerty and Otto the inflatable autopilot was absolutely priceless - as was Robert Stack's performance throughout.

note you have to stare at nudone's to appreciate it.

you also have to have gif animation enabled. some browsers may have animation turned off. but, if it's off, you wouldn't see app's avatar properly either, nor Josh's.

I never remember that it's an avatar! It always takes me about 2 full seconds to react when I see it. Vote!

Josh's bug avatar would get my vote were it to include a Pythonesque foot stomp!

I'm flattered, but it's got to be App followed by Josh and then Paul Keith.

nudone's avatar has always seemed mildly disturbing.  I can't place it, but I feel like it's from a movie - maybe a Terry Gilliam flick?  Where's it from?

I never noticed the 'easter egg' until I followed your suggestion.

i can't remember what Paul Keith's avatar looks like (i shall do a search in a minute). isn't there a quick/easy way to display the avatars in this thread - it's going to be difficult know what they all are if we get a few nominated.

mwb1100, not sure which film you are thinking of. the avatar is something i put together in photoshop:

stock photo hat.
stock photo body.
photograph i took of a Ram's skull.
cody added himself.

there is a Gilliam film, Time Bandits, that has the Minotaur in it. i think that might have a similar looking head. can't really remember. maybe Jabberwocky, probably could be a few.
