Is World of Warcraft the only depression-proof industry?

Is World of Warcraft the only depression-proof industry?

wow1211.jpg

Is World of Warcraft, Blizzard Entertainment’s Gem, the single depression-proof industry? Yes, because people who lose their jobs will have more time to play. Furthermore, those on unemployment won’t give up their graphics cards and flashing computer images of the Lich King. In a recent poll of WOW subscribers (who now number 11.5 MILLION), when asked what they would be willing to give up to survive difficult times, respondents said they could give up cable TV, professional sports, restaurants, vacations…. but no one would give up World of Warcraft.

They're also more satisfying, I think ;D

It will be depression-proof as long as Blizzard does not screw up, or people gets tired of it and moves on to better things (or other MMOs). Currently it seems impossible but big MMOs had fallen in the past, and Activision's CEO is a money-whore. He may pull a StarCraft 2 in the future and shatter everything in a couple of months.

Stop making it sound attractive.  :)

Actually, I'd rather play a free+Free mmorpg than a proprietary one with monthly subscription fees etc. Not to mention her computer wouldn't be able to run it atm...

It would certainly help the economy.  Practically a civic duty...

Take it from me, don't play this game. It is a waste of your time... I can speak from experience and I hope you will heed my advice... It steals your life; it becomes an obsession that will inevitably steal your time whether you think you can control it or not. Please, trust me... I just got over the addiction and I won't go back for anything... I've played this game longer than most people... I played since BETA of the original WoW and quit this past christmas... That's a few years of my precious time that I wish I could re-live... Nevertheless, I am over it; I no longer come home and logon the game. I dont think about it. I dont WANT it. I wont have anything to do with it. I can concentrate on life and enjoy the things that I never thought I'd lost until I realized they were already gone...

Quitting has made me a better person and I hope you can see i'm credible enough for advice in this situation...

So Codebyte, you're saying it's a life-sucking virus?  ;D  (I can't afford the subscr. price anyway.)

People over here are playing 'Silkroad Online' a lot!

It is nice enough to look at (as it requires DX9.0c), and everything is there (quest, magic, money, shop (of your own) chat, etc.). And it is free.

Guess it goes without saying, but during the weekends it is kinda hard to get on any of 20 or so (free) servers.

Sure they do. Just click the link at the top that says "Official Site" and then scroll to the very bottom of the page that loads and you'll see some screen shots of the week and stuff like that.
