Here are a few good discussions on the topic at WebWizGuide.

Extensions are one of the best things about Firefox. I like the webdev and mouse gestures best.

Tabmix+ is an awesome replacement for tabbrowser preferences and a whole lot less buggy.  Another great extension is- reload every, an extension that reloads any or all given tabs at a specified delay.  This is great for watching your e-bay, or whatnot.

brother8-

Way back in December you said that you were looking for a program to save your bookmarks for viewing anywhere.  I swear by wurldbook (www.wurldbook.com), a FREE web-based app that has changed my whole computing experience for the better.

WB is a little clunky at first, but try it for a week and you'll soon be hooked.  It's a combination RSS aggregator and bookmark manager, but it will also spin out your added bookmarks into RSS feeds if you want, for easy blogging, and let you take notes about your bookmarks, and lots more.  It does everything that power users like the people on this forum will want and a good deal more.  Far too many features to list.  The only thing it doesn't do right now is take snapshots of pages you're viewing, like furl, or do social bookmarking stuff, like del.icio.us, but there are plenty of ways to integrate those tools with firefox extensions.

My favorite part about WB is that its developer, Olav Anderson, is a truly nice guy who isn't in this for money.  If there's a bug or you want a feature improved, just shoot him an email and chances are he'll fix it for you right away.

www.wurldbook.com  Enjoy!

I love Foxmarks for synchronising my favorites between my two computers (wish it worked with Portable Firefox, though), and I'm wondering if there is a similar thing that would allow me to synchronise my extensions?

*A few hours later: actually, I discovered I can get Foxmarks to work on Portable FF - woot!*

I thought I had learned of Foxmarks from this discussion, but see nobody else has mentioned it: a great extension for synchronising favorites across multiple machines - I now use it on two laptops and a usb drive, and it's great!

And also, I don't think anybody else has mentioned Sage...  This is an excellent RSS reader extension - a bit like Onfolio, especially when you use it alongside the excellent Scrapbook extension mentioned before.

www.performancing.com have an extension that allows you to post to different blogs you may have (Blogger, WordPress, LiveJournal, MSN Spaces etc.).  The one for MSN doesn't work for me.

AbstractMouse.com Shared Bookmarks 0.8.200510240847 - for keeping your bookmarks synchronized between machines
Adblock Plus 0.6.0.4 (essential)
Adblock Filterset.G Updater 0.2.9 (essential)
Add Bookmark Here 0.5.5 (essential)
Gmail Manager 0.4.2 - very helpful if you have multiple gmail accounts to keep track of
Minimize to Tray 0.0.1.2005091606+ (essential)
MR Tech Local Install 4.0 (essential)  includes the nightly tester tools functionality and much more...
NoScript 1.1.3.9 (essential) very useful for the security minded individual
Open Link In... 1.4 (essential)
PDF Download 0.6
Sort Bookmarks 0.7.0 (essential)
Tab History 1.0.3
Tab Mix Plus 0.3 (essential) - The best Tabbed browser extension I have ever seen!!! (includes Tab X and Session Saver functionality)
SearchPluginHacks 0.1.3

Leland,

Can you tell us which ones you would classify as "essential-essential-essential" ; "essential-essential" and just plain "essential"?   ;D

Which ones you use or have come to appreciate most?

The best Firefox extension I've ever used is Adblock. It's really good for me, a dial-up user. :D

FlashGot is also good, but I don't use it too much.

Leland,

Well, as I already mentioned I consider Adblock Plus with the Updater to be my most essential.  I don't want a bunch of junk staring me in the face as I am trying to do my work.  Coupled with that NoScript will kill all scripts except on sites you allow.  This also kills of a bunch of extra junk.

Add Bookmark Here just makes bookmarking sites much easier, similar to Maxthon which I used before Firefox.  The sort bookmarks is useful to keep things in order as Firefox just seems to add them and has no way built in to sort them.

TabMixPlus is definely a must have, no questions about it.  When I started using it it did not have as many functions, but just last week it was updated and now includes the functionality of several extensions all in one.  This makes it much easier for me not having to have extra extensions yet having the same functions.  I prefer using a sigle browser window with lots of tabs, and this extension makes it very easy to do this.  Also it allows you to set it so new tabs open next to the current.  I could just go on and on about this one...

Mr Tech Local install is very usful for many reasons.  For one it can remove the delay for installing new extensions.  For another it can overide compatibility checking like the nightly tester tools.  It has many other functions too, way to many to list.  If you want to know more look at http://www.mrtech.co...l_install/index.html

What can I say about minimoze to tray, it help keep the taskbar uncluttered.  Plus you have quick access to Firefox.

OpenLinkIn is very useful in that it extends the context menu on links giving you many options as what to do with that link.  For me that is very helpful and much better than the default settings.

I think that covers everything I listed as essential.  I use all these extensions daily, though it seems the list is growing each day also.

Leland
:D

PS mouser, feel free to move this discussion as many others could benefit from this information.

Pretty nifty Leland!

You've helped me to discover some wonderful extensions that will make it even more difficult now to ever even think of anything but Firefox!
Had to unload TabX as i was getting two xx at each tabs.  Tab Mix Plus is much better!!

Yes Mouser, please do.

One happy Firefoxer!

I have been using Mathon primarily because of the 'tab' capabilities.  When it comes to Firefox, for those of us who are addicted to manipulation and control of 'tabs', THE most essential extension is Tab Mix Plus

I _love_ ScrapBook so much that I wrote a freeware PocketPC program to read the scrapped pages on the go : http://www.davidsoft.../scrapbook-de-poche/ ; now I can read jokes on the Tilted Forum, save them easily to my ScrapBook and read them in the train, when I want to tell them to my friends ;o)
