What do you have listed under Help / Product Management Center for the various components?

Mine now says: (Can Use 29 days)
Egads! Mine says 24 days. Not good. I was starting to get quite partial to this suite too.

Kingsoft uses some very confusing terms to promote their software.

after some googling, i noticed that the "free for personal use" is only for Chinese version. the download size is only 23MB compared to the English version (42.2MB).

Today I emailed the Kingsoft Office for clarification of pricing. Here's the reply:
Hi Tony,
Thank you for your email.
I firstly would like to apologise over the confusion surrounding the versions of KSO and their pricing structures.

*   The version currently downloadable from the website is KSO07 and is provided as a 30 day trial.
*   We are on the verge of releasing (should be next week) our next generation product KSO09 that will be provided as a 100 day trial with a price of around $50US thereafter.
*   Late July/early August , we will release a totally free personal version of KSO09. Yes free. The personal version does not run macros/VBA.

It is more than possible to download the current trial, upgrade to KSO09 and then convert to the free version, allowing you to continue to use KSO for free.

KSO09 will include support for the new Microsoft Office formats and for the open standard odf formats allowing totally compatibility between products as well as inline-spellchecking and a host of new features.

There is currently a free version of the previous KSO in Chinese language only called WPS and is available to download here. http://wps.dl.kingso...om/WPS2007.12012.exe

So to clarify.

Currently KSO is provided as a trial version.
In August there will be free versions of both English and Chinese KSO suites.
If you wish to purchase them for use of extended business functionality such as VBA then the price is around $50US

Thanks for doing the legwork on that, tsaint  It all looks good! I'd have to fork over the $50 for VBA support but even at that it would be cheap. Of course, I already have Office 2007 Ultimate installed... so don't really need it! Good to know nonetheless...

So... who used it daily and can compare it to, let's say, textmaker and PlanMaker or even openoffice.org? how does it deal with huge documents (1000 pages)with complex formatting (tables and images...), for example?

"KSO", well, good to know what to call it...

So... who used it daily and can compare it ...

I have not been using it 'daily', for the simple reason that I prefer my new SoftMaker Office 2008 (because I kind of have purchased it twice!). However, the few days I was using KSO I was quite surprised how similar it is to Microsoft Office 2003. By look, of course, but also in action.

- very interesting article, indeed. I had no idea the company was this old, and established to such a degree. They must have been BIG, once, maybe they will be, again? But someone really must bang them on their heads: their is absolutely nowhere on their site where it says (in English) that I am to pay for the program. All that is said is Free, and now we find out it is $50: Hmfff!!

However, I am anxious to see their next version, KSO 09, (only next week? Wow!) and see how close it may be to MS Office 2007. Maybe I even will forget my indignity and become a customer of theirs.  :D

@ urlwolf, there is no *linux version* because it is not needed.
Kingsoft will run on both Windows and Linux.

Kingsoft Office 2007 is compatible with the mainstream operating systems, like Windows98, Windows98se, WindowsME, Windows2000 Professional/server, WindowsXP Home/Professional, Linux and Vista.

@ masu - I have no understanding of this subject, but is this what you're looking for?::

Kingsoft Office 2007 excludes the VBA development environment. However, if you have VBA installed, then you can use VBA to edit and run macros. You can also use an development environment like VB. If you are able to install VBA then you can use all the features of the development application.

Edited:
No, I guess it wasn't. But if the feature is in MS Office 2007, then it most likely will also be in KSO 09

Masu,
with KO you can use insert objects and use "fx equation" for maths formulae. As an ex-word/equation editor user, I have to say that after initial reluctance to change from equation editor, I'm more than happy with fx equation. See http://www.efofex.com/fxequation.php if you're interested

I just downloaded it and installed it in Windows XP. It asked for Trial or Serial Number during installation so I selected Trial. I then ran the work processor and it asked me to register so I just entered my name in the first line - ignoring the other two fields. The 'About' box in all of the apps now says it is registered to me and no mention of trial.

KSO doesn't mention anything in the 'About' box. you have to look in the 'Help' menu and select 'Product Management Center'. user WP discovered this several posts above. :)

anyway, as tsaint found out - a new totally free personal version of KSO09 will be released in "late July/early August" without the macros/VBA option.

I don't understand. Is this a java app? Is the same code running in all OSes? Heresy I say!

Apparently it seems to be wrapped in Wine. I've seen other clues elsewhere indicating the same thing.

If your patient enough, maybe will KingSoft clone OneNote...  ;)

+1

I love OneNote, but it can not run on Linux/Mac.

Just hope Zoho will release some collabrative Web version of OneNote  ;D

Maxthon is quit good, but TheWorld is much better, and TheWorld2 is compatible with Maxthon2 plug-ins. COOL

ps Good job, xbeta.
